Who ever is in charge needs to lift their game or move aside.

Gussy was the resident creator of nicknames. Yet another of the many ways in which we miss him ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

As long as he gets the same umpire and tribunal latitude as Cripps we are really onto a winner.ย

i sincerely hope not. He deserves his own nickname, not one thatโ€™s based on a comparison to another player. Besides, heโ€™ll be a 10x better player than Reid. ๐Ÿ˜

And it'll be confusing when we have both!ย ๐Ÿ˜

Langford has enormous potential and he may also be able to play that Gus role that we've missed

Part defensive midfielder or filling that role between half back and the midfield with defensive spoils and intercept marksย

With his height and physical presence, he could play any number of roles that a midfielder could fill

The above may take a while to come to fruition, of course.ย  First of all, he needs to find his feet!

Why? ย not smart or any logic as far as I can see.

Nor is Hammer either explain that also.ย

Macca your post saying he can be a defensive weapon around half back.???? The guy is a forward/ mid. Do you want to further place defence above attack for our Club? We need creative attacking aggressive forwards not dour defenders.ย

There are a number of highlights showing him going back with the flight, defensively, to be fair.

Possibly a bigger loss than Ben Gibson on the PR/marketing front?

When we were are at our best, we often had Brayshaw playing as a defensive midfielder (as well as an attacking mid when it suited)

Not sure that Petracca, Oliver or Viney can play that role as marking strength and the ability to spoil was part of Gus' role.ย  Maybe Rivers?ย

Not advocating Langford at half back or on a wing (Gus also played those roles at other times), but more so at the defensive side of the midfield sweeping from side to side

We need some versatility in the midfield and that's maybe why we drafted Langford in the first placeย

Of course, we could also play Langford as a forward mid or a HHF if augers well.ย  Right now, Langford has the base attributes so we'll soon see where it all goes from here

I think Langfordโ€™s biggest strength will be that he can play anywhere on the ground. He will be a plug and play type player depending on what we need. Compare that to say a Jagga Smith, who will no doubt be an elite ball winner, but I donโ€™t think he has that versatility in his game.

Yes, but thereโ€™s change afoot. I recently met our new media guy, Matt. Heโ€™s aware of the importance of connecting with fans via the socials and itโ€™s already showing.ย

Yes, Langford just needs to be developed as he has a lot to learn.ย  But a lot of that will be self-development because as you said, he looks to be a plug-in-and-play type

Exciting times with Langford & Lindsay being added to the list

I agree. At least at the start of his career, Langford's versatility will mean he should be able to get a game anywhere. Pure mids can struggle early on if they're not quite at the level needed. Jagga by all accounts is a gun and will be fine. But even strong well-built mids like Ryley Sanders struggled early on, and averaged 16.5 disposals for the year. And unfortunately he's a bit useless if he's not playing thru the middle.ย

Good to hear. We have definitely fallen behind other clubs in that space and clubs like Hawks, Saints and Giants have excelled.

Whether you like social media or not (I hate it), it is ultra important to growing the club long term.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
