Could not agree more Brownie, the seniors forward line may well be the worst in the competition. Could he do less than JVR?

No I don't think he'll add much to our team.

However there's a thing called selection integrity. He's kicked 10 goals in 3 games in the VFL while our AFL forward line is worse than 2013. By round 4 2013 we'd kicked 48 goals. This year we've kicked 34 goals through 4 games. The point is VFL form should be rewarded while the senior boys aren't getting the job done.

Reserve players (MFC listed) find it hard to get games in the seniors, especially when your 0-4 games. Goody doesn't like to drop out of form players , he is almost clueless. Can you turn a forward into a ruck forward like Fullarton.? I say that it is possible as we have coaches,fitness staff and sports shrinks on hand. Mind you most of our players have gone backwards therefore they probably are as useless as t.ts on a bull !! Fullarton deserves to be promoted despite what people think as for Fritsch and Petty they need to be dropped .

In my minds eye I have to wonder if the question is possibly quite simple.

Does the inclusion of Fullarton add greater potential than that which you are removing ?

At this juncture and with the current form of some you can justifiably ( imo ) speculate he might add to our game, as it presently displays.

You also wonder what purpose is there in trying your guts out in the ressies if pigheaded stubborn disregard for poor form prevails.

I'm not sure if Fullarton has the goods, but he's in form and is 200cm, worth a shot.
Even if he's not clunking marks he has some extra reach to try bring ball down for smalls

I mentioned this months ago but I was reading the Brisbane Lions Bigfooty forum during grand final week. I was checking into to see who would replace Oscar Mac in the ruck. A couple posters suggested that Fullarton could've had the chance to play in a GF had he remained with Brisbane as he wasn't that far below Fort as an option to replace McInerny.

Anyway, another poster chimed in and said that Fullarton and his Dad had a major falling out with the MFC during 2024 and they were most upset with the club at the time. Could be BS, but I'm not sure of the upside of someone making up a story like that on grand final week, on the Lions forum discussing ruck replacements that have nothing to do with Melbourne.

If he doesn't get selected this week I dare say his papers are stamped.

Fullarton needs to be rewarded for his VFL form. Our team needs a player who can mark the footy plus gives Gawn a relief in the ruck. Fullarton deserves a go. If he fails (must get at least 2 games), then at least we gave him a shot.

JVR sadly is lacking any confidence. His oven mitt hands and trampoline chest have dropped too many marks. Get him to go to Casey and clunk 10 marks and kick 3-5 goals per game over the next two games. He needs to be carefully managed and he’s really gone backwards in the last 12-15 games.

If it were just to get a gig in the MFC seniors i'd also be asking that give Simon's conservative nature and want to play what he believes are his favs.

However, as we've already witnessed with the likes of JJ & Bedford, there are other eyes watching Bubs. And they sometimes see the potential (or greater potential) than others might not see or choose not to.

Im with you Norm but i'd be going one further.

Someone who's played very little at the highest level for this length of time surely needs at least 4 weeks minimum to train with the other senior forwards group. Get to know each other's strengths / manner in which they play / forward methods & ways of line coach. And just to find the pace of the game and get used to the extra noise etc at that level.

Also give the mids & others a chance to recognise him and the way he plays at training and hopefully that confidence / connection on the track (if any) carries over into the real deal.

You want to give him a fair shot otherwise there's no point. He'll probably struggle a tad in the first game or two. But no less a struggle than that we've seen from the likes of JVR & Fritta.

By week three - four, sure, you then expect him to start hitting some KPIs eg; the scoreboard / score involvements / assists / pressure acts etc or it's sayonara.

Anything less than a serious shot at it is an injustice and pointless imv.

He has to be given a chance, purely because he’s got some confidence up.

Neither of JVR & Fritta are attacking the ball in a way that suggests they think they will mark it.

Goody’s stubbornness at selection could well be the thing that undoes him.

Except he plays like he’s 185. He’s a flanker in a 200cm body.

The logical replacement for JVR is giving Aidan Johnson another run who actually has a red hot crack and does bring the ball to ground.

The logical replacement for Fritsch is Jeffo but it would be madness to drop Fritsch this week when he actually responded to the threat of being dropped and played a fairly decent game against Geelong, just missed his set shots, which is an issue but should eventually start to turn.

He needs to be given a crack this week, purely because we have to reward VFL form when our 1st side is struggling to score and is winless.

We need to get some selection integrity going to hopefully get some wins in the AFL!

An argument could be had, by some, that the next block of 4 games are our least testing ( personally I think they're all uphill now ) so why not now push the boat(s) out. Anyone suggesting this will jeopardise our finals is ... well... 🙄

Unless you're demoting Melk to sub then we've got a 4 tall forward line without any pressure with that line up, not that Fritsch is great in that regard but he at least offers something at ground level. He's been judged on goals and whilst his missing has been frustrating there's been signs in 3 of 4 games this year that he might make something of the new role he's been asked to play getting up the ground more.

All the focus is on the talls when Geelong play Cameron as a winger half the game and I'm never sure if Shannon Neale is actually a real person. Sydney keep winning with 4 rucks.

If we can get McVee, Lindsay and Kolt back over the next 2 weeks and settle Windsor down we can finally start to line up with something resembling a decent line up of flankers. I'd love an early look at Mentha. And in terms of vital players who aren't in great form the big one is Spargo who we desperately need but I don't think he comes back to his best without another 2-4 weeks minimum at Casey.

Aside from Fritsch's goal kicking and JVR's concrete hands by far the biggest issue is we keep butchering the ball with bat**** crazy decision making and skill execution which leaves us vulnerable on transition. We can get some addition by subtraction if we replace the midfield butchers once we have some reinforcements available.
