“Pick 23”. Ok. Turns into pick 32 after the compensation and protection of Academy and father/son picks. Probably just fair as he walked out as an uncontested player.

Dees have now

2nd round 23, 27, 41,

3rd round 60,

4th round 65.

Not sure they’ll actually slide that far. Yes 4 of the top 10 (by cal twomeys phantom form) are attached to clubs but there’ll be some eaten up as the points system is tighter than last year.

And yes it will slide for Oscar Allen’s compo.

Edited by The end is nigh

Pick 23 and 27 combined points adds to pick 12 .

With the Oliver pick and Spargs pick we will likely try to trade up.

Hopefully we get a nice bounty for Tracc.

Any interest in Jake Rogers as the steak knife's in the Tracc trade?

I think 23 for McVee is pretty bang on.

What’s hilarious though is Freo convincing themselves that 12+33 for 19+23 was a good trade for them/

Well it is, as if they gave us 12 they would have 33 and now they get Judd and have 19.

They will see that as a big win.

I get your point Luci but I'd still much rather the ND12.

I haven't followed the draft at all this year to be honest with our lack of top end capital but with the constant talk of it being a little bit soft, I'd much rather be at the pointy end.

I don't mind the concept of the points when discussing later trades or future trade scenarios but I'm still always happy to burn some point value to get the better pick.

Agreed.

The points reference was for those that thought 23 was a very bad deal.

Yep.

Remind me luci what draft pick did we get for nibbla?

I bet you already know this but I will humour you to highlight your point 🙂that it is a good deal in comparison.

Pick 28, that was used as 'steak knives' for the pick trade with Ess for their 2025 pick 9 which eventually netted Lindsay.

Year I’d be interested in this. Rogers looks like he has potential but his stats don’t jump off the page. His two best game of his 18 game career have come against West Coast.

7, 17 and Rodgers for Trac and our future second??

They could’ve given 12 and gotten 19,23 and kept the 33. Not very often you see teams downgrade their first for less points. Especially when they’re doing it to help facilitate a trade between two other teams. Especially so early on in the trade period with so many players left to move. They could’ve come up with an early 20s pick to satisfy us in so many different ways involving only their pick 12.

They’ll play it off as a win because they were able to get the trade for McVee done but unless there’s something missing it’s a very weird trade for them.

And on top of all that they traded 44,50 and got 46 in return which is also absurd lol cos they’ve just downgraded theirs third pick for no reason and given their fourth away for nothing.

The more I think about it the less this trade makes sense for them and the happier I get lmao

It's the other way around, the dockers picked him cause they can see untapped ability

Who are Freo's reserves team? i'll have to tune in and watch them to see if they manage to turn him into an attacking half back

I think Luci may be right, that first pick second night of the draft is often quite valuable.

We might be able to trade it with a likely low ladder team, for F1 2026 in stronger draft.

Yes, well perhaps not as clever a way to make my point as I hoped.

My point being i can't believe some posters think pick 23 is unders.

Nibbla has barely missed a game through injury, his last three seasons have been elite, is widely respected for his training standards and leadership, is an aerobic beast who plays a critical role and is a premiership player.

I thought pick 28 was unders for Nibbla, but nonetheless it gives us some sense of market value.

Mcvee has plenty of upside, is talented and has more footy left but he'll do very well to be the player nibbla has become.

So, if anything, pick 23 isovers for mcvee

But you touch on an important point luci., one I wasn't making.

Outside of say a top 10 or 15 pick the actual number is somewhat meaningless once filtered thru factors like how a club uses that pick (eg packaging it up, on trading it, using it on a player no other club is likely to take at that pick, points etc etc).

Pick 23 for a best 22, 22 year old with upside to become a top 15 player is not good enough Lamb. We have never got above what we should have and consistently get below what we would like. Look at all our players playing around the league that we have got peanuts for. Bent over yet again. Honest Lamb could never be a used car saleman, he'd go out of business.

what draft pick did Lamb use to trade for Pig and Melky?? What did we get for ANB

I don’t love it but unfortunately given he’s out of contact we don’t have much leverage

We’ve always preferred to get these types of deals done early so that we can get creative with our picks

But give how the last few years have gone under Lamb, can’t say I have a lot of faith in that…

Lamb has a history of being creative with draft picks, moving up the board, paying draft picks forward. Have Faith.

Let’s not forget that the pick we gave for Nibbler was the same pick we gave Adelaide for McAdam the year before.

Pick 23 is a good outcome here, I think this year more than ever we need to look at the overall outcome of the trade period rather than individual trades as we will win on some and lose on others.

The fact that we got this trade done so early has me thinking this pick will be part of a larger deal.

Still a bit annoyed with young Judd felt that he owed us at least another 2 year deal, but Freo seem to be better “sweet talkers” “sirens” than us and the West has a history of creating homesickness in their desired targets. Good luck Judd but remember who gave you your first opportunity.

No good luck from me

I'm glad he's gone

I'll be glad to see the back of Ollie and Trac too

btw, just had Trac's new book delivered - it's bloody good!

Freo are House and Land package salespeople.

They sell the the dream, the vision, they even get you to picture yourself in the place by selling a fancy role within the team but when the digging starts, you hit rock.

Dont be so salty and judgemental yes disappointed.

Think of our 13th flag and the many great games from the champs.

Treat them as Melb royalty as they deserve our overwhelming thanks.

Thanks guys if you go but secretly I don’t mind if you are about in 2026 and beyond again.

No i'm saying that if Judd wasn't good enough to get the role he wants at the 14th ranked side, he's probably going to struggle at a top 8 side.

So might love his life in the reserves.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
