I understand we are all frustrated with Shane’s first year but he’s contracted for 2 more and at least deserves the benefit of the doubt for this year to go out and play his best.

Exactly. It would be unfair (and potentially unwise) to write him off now when he’s working harder than he ever has and is fitter and more determined than he’s ever been.

Not to mention the other other benefits of reduced (soft-tissue) injuries.

Love the new avatar and comeback née wcw. Caspar the ghost was one of my favourite comic book characters of my boyhood. Plently of fun back than without tamagotchi’s, PlayStations or whatever. Get outside and play kick to kick in the street!

Pleased Uncle Roy’s got his own thread and Shane has returned in ripping shape. Looking forward to seeing how all this plays out. Feeling  optimistic about the season ahead.

Hopefully however it’s done, we get Roy onto our list.

I just get the feeling that with a strong pre season in the AFL system, he will improve significantly.

Also with Kozzie, Shane, Ricky, Steve and Roy we will have a good group of indigenous boys supporting each other in their footy careers and making the MfC a better club and team.

Shane’s on an individual training schedule, totally separate from the others and has been since preseason began. It’s fitness-based. He said this has always been an issue for him and this is the furthest he’s come in terms of achieving peak fitness (and with that comes the other benefits in the form of increased confidence and faith in himself). This is exactly where he’s at.

Therefore the fact that he wasn’t in attendance from the start with the 1 - 4 year players is a non-issue. He’s on a tailored program, so it hasn’t been necessary for him to be training at the same time and place as the others.

Selwyn and Tom (Couch) and assistants have got him in the great condition he’s in by catering for his needs, so to speak. I don’t know the specifics and I’d never ask, but what I do know is that whatever they’re doing… it’s working.

He’s also in a great place mentally as well. He admits he’s been down on himself in the past. He’s turned a corner and it shows in everything he does. I don’t need to ask him how he’s going, he’s keen to share and does so more and more with every session.

Bottom line: He has been working just as hard and for just as long as the others.

Thanks GW - appreciate the response.

I'm so fascinated by what he's been doing and what his needs are to continually see him on a tailored training session and still not assimilating into the main group.  Obviously I don't expect (or want) you to pry.

The couple games I remember him at Adelaide I was so impressed with his speed and chase down tackling and opportunistic scores.  I really rate him but do worry if he'll be able to get his body right again for that to happen.

Anyways, apologies to all about de-railing the Roy George thread.

Is Roy on the track again today?

If this lad finds a way on the list, might need to change my username accordingly.

Bert Newton got 'Boy' and 'Roy' mixed up also (for those old enough to remember). One minute mark:

@Ghostwriter - if you could, I would appreciate finding out if Couch has left the wta behind and is with us permanently, or if he’s going back to tennis fitness roles once the circuit gets underway again in 2025

I’ll find out on Wednesday and post the info. I’m guessing he’s leaving the WTA since he no longer coaches Danielle now that they’ve broken up. But that’s just my guess.

Mohammed Ali tried to give Newton an out. Don Lane called out "he said Roy".

This guy gives me an Aaron Davey at Port Melbourne vibe.

But don't listen to me because I'm usually wrong about everything.

Hate to be a pessimist but I can't see a 30 year old, who averages 11 games a year suddenly overcome his fitness & injury history & become a gun player.

Does anyone have an inside word of how the club hopes to get this kid on the list?

I think if there is a long term injury in pre season we could possibly sign him. Unsure of the dates for cut-off of this though.

Then the other chance would be the mid season draft, again if we have a spot available due to a long term injury.

I think we also have a Cat B rookie spot available as well, but he doesn't qualify for that.

Can another player go on the cat B list so we can take him?

Well we moved AMW to the Cat A list from B, so I'm guessing that this had to occur due to how many years he's been at the club.

We can't move someone from Cat A to B though. Cat B is only for NGA rookies or overseas/non AFL background players such as basketballers

We had plenty of opportunities to create a list spot.

Maybe we just didn't rate him enough or maybe the plans we had for a list spot didn't eventuate.

Either way if we miss out on him it is our own fault.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
