How come the appointment is announced in the media first and not by the club to the members and supporters?

that's the job of journos - to break stories

I went past it the other day and it's as much in the @rse end of nowhere as Casey Fields is. It's location might be OK for players located Bayside but if they plan on playing any VFL / AFWL games or allowing the public in for training days the nearest public transport is miles away...

...until the SRL is completed - runs right past it.

Anyone's State voting preferences affected?

Victorian Government project, so completion will be 5 years behind original planning

It’s a training facility first and will be a very good one. Having public transport access is not a priority even if vfl and aflw games are played there.

Caulfield gives us everything we need but will be in the middle of a racetrack.

The proposed MFC HQ is not in the middle of the race track. It is on the outside of the track accessed from Booran Rd.

CLUB President Brad Green has written a letter to members.

Dear Members,

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news. After a comprehensive nationwide search, the Melbourne Football Club begins an exciting new chapter today with the appointment of Paul Guerra as Chief Executive Officer.

We set out to secure the best possible leader for our future and we have found that person in Paul.

Paul is a highly respected CEO with a proven track record of results in member organisations. His vast experience and deep business connections, people-first approach and alignment with our values make him the standout choice. The Board will fully resource and empower Paul to ensure our football programs and all aspects of the Club are fully supported to drive our next phase of growth.

Paul joins the Club from his current role as CEO of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he delivered strategic growth, strengthened stakeholder relationships and fostered a high-performance culture.

I’d like to recognise and thank David Chippindall, for guiding the Club with authenticity and composure during this period. He is an exceptional leader and a highly valued member of our executive team, who has led with care and diligence while serving as Interim CEO.

Paul will hit the ground running and Members will have opportunities to hear directly from him very soon.

Thank you, as always, for your loyalty and support. I look forward to seeing you at the footy soon.

Go Dees!

Brad Green

Melbourne Football Club

I just had a look and if the track is to connect Cheltenham and Clayton stations it would actually go through Heatherton as the crow flies which is a little further to the west but with no station planned there (for now at least).

If he can handle the chamber of secrets that should prepare him well for our club

More like 50 years. 5 years is only for projects that require 5 or 6 years of work. SRL is a 50 year long project.

And the winner is

Melbourne have appointed Victorian businessman Paul Guerra as their CEO after a protracted search to replace Gary Pert.

Guerra has been the CEO of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for five years and a director at Racing Victoria.

From the Motorola implosion to private consultants world to the Queen Vic market to the Royal Show to the chamber of commerce … a compelling candidate

A bit of an unexpected appointment.

But hopefully he is up to the challenge that is the Melbourne Football Club.

Gotta change his red and black ties to red and blue ones now (seeing as he is or was an Essendon supporter).

Good luck to Paul Guerra!

Welcome to the Melbourne Demons as our new CEO! 🔴🔵👹

Main objectives...

1) Building our new Home Base at Caulfield Race Course (the top priority).

2) Keeping out of any football department business unless directed to by the Melbourne Football Club Board.

3) Growing our membership numbers to 75,000+ or more.

4) Developing a new Strategic Plan for the Melbourne Football Club for the next 5+ years.

5) Helping the Melbourne Football Club to win more Premierships.

Can't shake the feeling that we've made the cowardly choice, if Caro's version of events is to be believed. Hope to be proven wrong.

Good luck Paul - get that home base built!

In Spanish and Italian, guerra means war, so there's that?

Maybe this guy is going to bring the fight we need right now...

What’s your issue with his credentials?

3 hours ago, whatwhat say what said:

I’d have much preferred KT, but that is personal bias

Hated Guerra’s ‘everybody back to the cbd’ attitude

You do realise his members are the businesses that want everyone back in offices?

Reminds of the Paul Macnamee appointment! Why would we want to appoint anyone with A CEO Football background??? Hope I’m wrong but I can see this going pear shape!

Priority #1 for both the MFC as a club and its incoming CEO, has to be finally getting our home base built with as few hiccups as possible.

Agree home base has to be nailed! But a CEO role covers all aspects of the footy dept which this guy has had zero exposure & understanding, will he understand strong culture in footy clubs what it looks like Eg Peter Jackson come in & fixed things fast as he had great insights etc etc.. hope I’m wrong but…..

The right business and political contacts are far more important for a CEO than AFL experience as such.

Instead of prejudging Paul Guerra, I would suggest waiting to see what he brings to the club.

Surely it's pragmatic to appoint someone who has racing industry links over someone who is going to potentially rock the boat with some of the stakeholders due to an issue that has nothing to do with football.

Why? The job is CEO, not footy boss. The last two CEO’s we’ve had that have had footy backgrounds (Schwab and Pert) have ended up leaving under clouds, despised by the playing group, as they meddled too much in the footy department.

Lest we forget….

What about the most significant CEO we’ve had in decades, Peter Jackson?

The current CEOs of other clubs in particular the the bigger ones in Vic what’s their background & afl experience..

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
