Was a nice drive by 😂 by way of pointing out he was certainly not their first choice.

If you have been following this matter of importance over recent times you would have been aware of that fact.

For various reasons most candidates were ensconced in comfortable and well suited positions and not fit a long time previously.

I don’t regard a person of this standing as being the successful candidate as less suited to the CEO role than the many others previously touted.

Like with Gary Pert who I Maintain despite his Clarry look around was an extremely positive influence on our club.

Many will say he left a mess but the previous majority of years were successful both on and off the field. Some will disagree that’s fine but if you go into detail given our last 60 years that’s beyond dispute.

Paul Guerra looks a fine positive and knowledgeable Senior CEO with great business and administration skills.

Let’s give him our full support in his journey to raise our level back to near the top.

Great Interview on Footy Classified.

Thumbs up from me.👍

We have a problem though, their is a rat on our board that keeps leaking to the media.

Paul's appointment was leaked to Caro before he even knew, this rat needs to baited and caught then thrown in the trash where they belong.

Not good for business at all.

Doesnt necessary have to have come via a board member. Maybe a candidate was told no, who let Carro know. She never said he had the job. She indicated Paul was in her opinion the leading candidate.

Appears we went door knocking.

Of course we went knocking. That's what an external consultant does. Do you think there is a line of CEO waiting at the front door. Never bean head hunted Blue??

Agree with all of what you said, and support him.

I just found the drive by comical. Probably not required by the interviewer.

I took it that the interviewer misunderstood the situation rather than giving a drive by.

Paul Guerra even mentioned it unfortunately got leaked an hour before to Caro.

If some can add the start of the interview to the thread it will tell you all you need to know. Paul even confirmed the allegation from Eddie.

Why would a candidate leak that?

There is a rat in our boardroom.

It's a problem and no doubt Tom Morris in some way has his greasy mitts all over it.

My take on it Deestroye from one of his interviews was that he was approached a month ago that implies the club was still on the hunt until Paul Guera entered the fray so to speak.👍😁

I fear you are correct. However, on this matter there may be other sources from outside the club who may have been in the know and leaked it. These include his personal referees, his current employer, someone within AFL HQ, someone at the other organisations in which he's involved such as Racing Victoria, and probably others.

To everyone questioning the start date, I think it should be seen as a positive.

Do we want to be employing a CEO who can just jump straight into this type of role? That would mean he is either currently unemployed, or is in a lower role and doesn't have a long exit time required.

I imagine with his current employment contract as CEO there is an extended timeframe that he must give when resigning from his CEO position. This is fairly standard for that type of role, given it is highly specialised and important to an organisation, so as to give them time to plan for his exit.

Yes and he also said he will be working in his time on club matters, until he starts with us.

Missed the interview on classified, also probably because I don't watch it.

Anyway I'll back Brad Green & the board in. Give him a go. I reckon he's got good business contacts

I’d be very surprised if he isn’t spending time each week working with the club and its stakeholders. I’m guessing he’ll be at our matches pretty regularly.

it got out but it doesn't mean it got out via a MFC board member

It’s not ideal, two seasons with patched up management 24/25 25/26

All the loser clubs who are clearly done would have completed pre planning, planning for season 25/26, two months before September, and discussed a way forward.

Imagine attempting to recruit high profile players and signing on multi million dollar contracts.

Edited by bluey
An after thought.

I’m nitpicking, but why doesn’t the club say it like it is. We DO NOT have a new CEO yet, as he is not available to take the reigns until September… at season’s end which puts us another four and a half months behind in progress establishing our permanent training headquarter’s.

I don’t pretend to know how things work at that level, but does the fact that he will be fulfilling other commitments before taking on the CEO position in September, mean that he will not be getting up to speed with what is happening at the MFC until he officially takes on the role? If that’s the case, then we will be entering season 2026 in not much better condition as a club (from a business POV), than we did this year.

I received a survey from the club today and honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever spent so much time, or typed so many words, in filling one of those out in the past!

I understand where you are coming from @La Dee-vina Comedia but it just doesn't sound right to me.

Why are other clubs water tight with these dealings and announcements?

Why would other parties be privy to this decision from our club? we are not run by the AFL like in 2009/2010.

It's not like Brad Green called his current employer or all his stated referees to mention that Paul has been chosen as the new CEO of the MFC.

As soon as he got the nod thats Paul's business to mention it to his current place of work and he chose to sit on it for 24hrs.

This can only be the work of a board member who sat at the table when these decisions were made.

There is a board member who likes the smell and taste of 🧀 and I know at the Dees board members are known to love a nice cheese platter.

If that's all true DJ why did we use the language in teh announcement to members that "he will hit the ground running and Members will have opportunities to hear directly from him very soon". Pure speculation but maybe:

  1. He was called after the Board meeting to say he had the job.

  2. Caro had broken her story as the Board meeting was occurring - so the Board says: Is it OK Paul if we send out a notice to members? You'll be able to start soon, right?

  3. The next day his existing employer says - Hang on a minute, you have a notice period here.....

He can still honour the part of doing some media, but he certainly cannot "hit the ground running".

Let's all hope that VECCI lets him go early.

Messy start though.

It's a figure of speech, whether they should've used those words who knows.

It's not messy at all. I really don't understand posters concerns with any of this tbh.

This smells of another poorly managed appointment. I am not feeling enthusiastic about it much at all. What new CEO needs a 4 month notice period from their current employer? Give me a spell.

We needed someone to hit the ground running and spend most of the season getting up to speed.

Suprised by the reaction on here.

Our new CEO has obviously been working on a big project, that he wants to see through. Due diligence I would call it.

I would believe he will still be in serious contact with the MFC Board during this year. We have a CEO running the Club at present, the seat is not vacant.

Let the guy finish his commitments so that he joins with a clean slate

In this day and age I would be doubtful of any arguments negating the ability of Guerra to egress his current position in a month. ( if he wanted to )

Hardly anyone is irreplaceable in the Corporate world. CEO are essentially overseers .

So is the club expected to go for a lesser candidate who can start today? I’m really not sure what the concerns are.

How many people honestly knew who our CEO was until this week? It's been a faceless role this year.

How many other clubs wait for this long for a new CEO to merely start the job?

I hear the general manager at the Priceline down the street only needs a week's notice. Might as well get him in for an interview 😛

How did the board not brief Guerra before going on Footy Classified last night?

Either Caulfield has hit a major snag (read it's potentially over) and he was briefed on that, which is why he was non-committal on Caulfield, or he wasn't briefed and allowed Eddie and Hird to push Port Melbourne and even Waverley without major rebuttal.

Think back to when PJ appeared on these shows. He'd immediately pit you at ease by calling a spade a spade and nipping the wrong messages in the bud.
