Glad I'm not the only one thinking this way.

The last one was Byrnes, and somehow during his time with us the Cats came across the intel about us taking Max Holmes so they sneaked in front of us to steal him. Then he heads back to Geelong and they win the flag.

I wouldn't be giving them any more opportunity to pick up IP from us.

I’m thinking the same way BBB, loved him as a player (thorough bred) I’ve watched him a lot since retirement a bit smug Geelongish, however maybe a good administrator or front man.

ps( I don’t think that it was coincidental that Byrnes, Daisy and our former VFL coach all left for Geeelong and they win the next flag.)

I'd love JB at the club.  He was pretty strong on "footy furnace" on Pert tonight.

I'd be surprised if he wanted to work at the same club as Pert.

What did he say?

I presume the FD wants him, not necessarily the admin.

I would be all for Jimmy taking the CEO role at the MFC.

If what I hear is correct about Pert controlling the Caufield deal then he ain't going anytime soon.

As soon as this deal has been made and started he can then be fkd off from the footy club.

If what you claim is correct, and Pert lands the Caulfield deal, he will be CEO for as long as he wishes!

Nothing in Bartel’s background says he is ready for a CEO job. Having not had a full time job in footy he wouldn’t even be ready for a head of football job. His role should be coming in under Richo and giving more of a strategy, culture, leadership angle to our FD and letting Richo focus on mentoring coaches which is a strength of his.

That might well be right on Pert, but finding a quality high level business exec with experience in sports and ideally footy would be the aim.

CEO?! In absolutely no way would he be qualified 🤨

Exactly what does Bartel bring to the dees

Premiership experience, sustained success, Geelong IP, midfield expertise, leadership, integrity, how to play wet weather football.

To name a few.

Well he's just stepped down as footy director of GWS where since 2018 he was key in the club's list management and coaching decisions as well as their restructuring of the football department. He was a member of the panel that appointed Adam Kingsley as head coach.

You only need to look at GWS' recruiting, record and how they operate to know he's made a positive impact. He's also one of the most respected football media heads as well with his balanced, informed view points. Highly respected across the AFL with many useful connections and relationships across the league.

If he's up for a new challenge then come aboard Jimmy!

I don't know if he is or isn't, might be a natural, might have been doing a business degree on the side etc.

He definitely has mixed in the right circles and has a balanced view on footballing analytics and communications.

Fresh out of the game, fresh ideas, fresh networking lines, I reckon it would be a no brainer if the stars align.

I’d rather him be our GM of Football and take over from Richo.

If he did become GM, at least he wouldn’t be a ‘yes’ man and hold Pert to some sort of account.

He’d also not let Pert get away with sticking his nose in places that aren’t of his concern.

Could possibly be the reason he does or doesn't join us, depending on what happens with Pert 🙄

He hasn’t sounded too impressed with Pert in some recent comments

But who knows, maybe he’d be up for the challenge?

Doesn't he either take Richardson's role or work alongside/just under him?

Maybe with his work in the media he could bring some positive ways to sell the club's message, whatever the [censored] that means. We all know our clubs communication and ability to contain the narrative is amateurish at best.

What are his credentials? Great player who has spent his time in the media since retirement.

My question to that is, what are his qualifications?  Pert has had many years of experience in corporate management following his degree that he was able to complete during a time when footballers were not full time professionals as they are now.  Apart from volunteering on community issues, what's Bartel's experience in running a multi million dollar organisation?

Bartel has told Pies no thanks

Fingers crossed he comes to the Demons! 🤞

It would definitely be quite an exciting challenge for him.

Can he work with CEO Gary Pert?

Anyway, we shall wait and see....?

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
