Heeney was in the form of his life and really should’ve dominated, but just didn’t impact at all. Without looking at any stats, I can’t name a single swans player that really stood up and executed. 

They need to find a better key forward than McDonald or Amartey. When you add Grundy to that mix, you just have no marking firepower, and early on they could not get themselves out of trouble nor could they find anyone to stand up inside 50.

It's OK when Warner, Heeney and Gulden are ripping opponents to shreds in the middle but when they can't dominate, those talls aren't going to get you to a flag.

They also probably need to find a key defender a bit taller than Rampe, who has always done well for someone his height but he's been around a long time now and was flogged today, to the point where I'm not sure he's going to be able to keep playing above his height too much longer.

Can't help but remember that Luke Parker mockery of Essendon with the Jump Scare mime. it's exactly how the Swans play in GF's. Frozen and afraid to do anything but get rid of the ball any way they can

Sydney don't have the mongrel of the Lions. It is clear Brisbane came out with intent from the first minute. Swans didn't want to match them which is a disgrace for a team that had the minor premiership sewn up in June.

One of the greatest premierships today by the Lions considering they came from 0-3 (2-5), considering the offseason they had, considering the had to win from 5th, had to win two knockout finals on the road, had to come back from 44 points down halfway thru the 3rd quarter of the semi, had to come back from multiple deficits in the Prelim and then romped it in with ease today. I don't mind the Lions as a club, there's a few players of theirs I dislike but you have to admire what they've achieved.

Yesterday was a perfect day ... so excited to attend the G in glorious sunshine.

And really pumped when the match started. Shame the Swans were so poor. And conversely the Lions were so good ... some of their kicks through the middle just sliced open the Swans' defence. 

I think it again showed the need to have players with elite kicking skills, field and goalkicking. Other skills wouldn't hurt either - handballing/general awareness/contest skills.

FWIW, I agree with the earlier comments about Parker. What a dreadful individual.

FWIW, I agree with the earlier comments about Parker. What a dreadful individual.

Just shows how far off the pace we are with our kicking skills compared to the Lions, and a game plan that is as ineffective as it is boring to watch. Lot of work to do in the pre season. The Lions played a daring and brave corridor game to perfection slicing up the Swans with their elite kicking and fast release handball.

We can play daring, surge football, but yes, our kicking tends to let us down (we can’t maintain the consistency to execute that kind of game plan).

A pretty amazing effort by Brisbane. 5 ACLs this year, 4 finals, two big finals comebacks. started 0-3 and then 2-7 after 9 rounds (in 13th position)

They deserved to win.

I was astounded Brisbane were allowed to play the way they did. Their kick mark game from the backline was exactly how they beat us and many teams in the past two years. Almost like the Geelong of 2012-2020. There was nothing new in their game plan except maybe they finally added some very good pressure. The Swans wilted.

And their key players stood up. 

The Swans fwd line is pretty weak whilst the Lions have a lot of firepower up front.

We need a big FWD desperately.

They kick instinctively and aren't scared to make mistakes. They kicked so many risky short kicks that nearly always came off. We on the other hand are stagnant, stop start and with players that refuse to run to make leads. It's almost like our entire game plan is 'kick it long to Max'. We are the polar opposite to all the final 8 sides

Was 5 months since their last clash at the G. They beat the Hawks when in lesser form.

The lions who used to struggle there had 2 games in the last five weeks there. Beaten by one point by pies and smashed the cats.

Not sure this is right. Brisbane historically have struggled at the G>

Going into last week's prelim Brisbane were on a 6-1-30 streak at the MCG since the 2004 Grand Final. Narrowing that down, they were also 2-13 at the G under Fagan, with the two wins being against us both times (2022 SF and Round 6 this year).

Sydney had a poor run at the G last year (0-4) but under Longmire were 20-1-20 at the G before yesterday.

Yes, we are appalling in all facets of the game compared to them, as was demonstrated when they absolutely annihilated us at the Gabba by 5 points.

Very few ACL comeback stories better than Will Ashcroft's.

Does his ACL in the middle of his first season, returns in Rd 16 this year then a dozen games later is best afield in the GF. Bright future.
