I wonder what the level of interest is in this game interstate. I suspect if you dig a little that it's not great.

Similarly the level of interest in Melbourne in the Storm is abysmal.

The GF really needs to go on the road occasionally. (One in every three years would be fine)

Diamond, just come back from the Gold Coast. Up there it's big news. I think the level of interest may surprise you.

Just turned on channel 7. You would be hard pressed to find a less charismatic line up. It's almost an art form

Well I've seen a few wearing the red and white today in Sydney.  Also someone with a Swans scarf and a Lions guernsey!  Lots of pubs in my area advertising specials for the GF, so it'll likely be quite rowdy this afternoon.

Didn’t realise Fagan was with our organisation for as long as he was.

1998 - 2007.

Yeah the media doesn't mention it, we can claim him!

It will probably be one of the highest rating grand finals ever and the Storm just won in front of a sell out crowd that was one of the quickest selling games ever at the ground.

Why do the Afl do often get the entertainment wrong.

I don't think anyone would care if they just played the national anthem and bounced the ball

Wowsers. I’m currently in Kirra/Coolangatta and am amazed at the traffic and amount of time it takes to go from one end of the Gold Coast to the other, let alone from Byron to Brissie. Not sure of his family / partner situation but if you’re earning good coin and will do for only a few more years, suck it up and live closer by.

We're down on the Richmond river near Ballina. We normally avoid travelling to Brisbane during the daylight hours completely due to gold coast traffic. Perpetual roadworks.

A 2 hour 5 minute drive at 8pm and a 3.5 hour drive at 8am typically.

I can only expect he stays somewhere in Brisbane during the week.

Geez we avoid Byron like the plague too.

Saw King Stingray (they should be playing today instead of KP) at the northern in Byron the other week.

$12 for a schooner of beer in a plastic glass. Eye watering prices. No wonder the kids don't drink.

Go the Swannies. They've been the best team all year.

CORRECT!!!! We have tried to copy the superbowl and it just makes us look like hicks.

The problem is, the AFL has no faith in its product. It doesn't believe that people might actually go to the footy to watch the footy.

Why do we have cooked oseas acts?

We have lots of great entertainment here in Oz.

Not like the Superbowl are checking in here for performers.

Katy Perry.... please. Wth.

Contrary to popular belief, there is a world OUTSIDE of the internet. People seem to have this inherent belief that whatever is said or seen on socials is automatically treated as gospel.

Katy Perry exceeded $500 million in net worth earlier this year and has a ton of Australian shows on her next tour next year. Whether you like it or not, she still has a sizable global fanbase in spite of not being in her “prime” anymore.

This is far from a failure from the AFL’s perspective.

Why not get the hick from Deliverence to play his banjo and his father his mums brother to dance

Actually Storm has very good attendance at most home games, and it was a sell out last night. I am a member of the Melbourne Storm as well as the Demons.

I was talking mainly of media coverage. Attendance wise 29k for a team that has been in 11 grand finals in a sports mad city of 5M is not exactly killing it

29,000 is the capacity of AAMI Park, so therefore could not fit any more people in. The Storm have bigger crowds at Marvel Stadium when they played there before. Can you explain how 29,000 is not killing it, when it was a sell out? I am sure that more people would have attended if the venue held more.

My lack of care is a solid 9.5 out of 10.

But let’s go Swans because of JJ and because one of my closest friends is a die hard Swans fan.
And also because I despise Brisbane.

Agree all the hoopla crammed into the non-playing time seriously detracts from the real footy. Especially during the quarter and half time breaks. Let the game breathe. Pre-game is OK.

Here's an interesting thought, Dunkley could win his 2nd premiership medal against Swans, and Swans didn't select him as Father-Son.

I have zero interest in this game and will find other things to do this afternoon...I might even blow dry the few hairs on my head instead. This is a battle of the big academies and the AFL can get [censored].

Screw JJ.  He dumped us, don't forget.

Yes, I'm being very mature and taking the jilted lover approach to this game.

If Brisbane actually play AFL and don’t attempt to turn the game into a rugby scrum, they’ll win easily.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
