Yeah he kicked 33 goals this season but that was it. He’s a one trick pony who has no other positive attributes as a footy player.

Yes and most of these came from precision ball movement from Carlton mids who put it down his throat. Out midfield, ball movement is very different... He's not able to create much himself out of contest.

I'm sure there's a few reasons that Carlton is happy to move on from him.

I think he's greatly benefited from playing alongside Curnow and Mckay who draw all the attention which has allowed him to play off of them and find space and time

He does kick straight I'll give him that and is a decent mark.

I'd like to concentrate on other players ahead of him.

mcadam i could understand, sure, but not the latter three

Bedford is waaay better than all but Pickett!

Well said.

Just because he kicked 33 for Carlton does not mean he will come and kick 33 for us.

Rumours appearing online stating that he has agreed to join Demons.

Nothing official.

Edit: Still nothing filtering to any media outlets. This may just be supporter filled lies.

Bedford was still a developing player who wasn't given the opportunity to solidify a place in the team. From what he showed at Casey, he always had far more upside than Spargo. Unfortunately Goodwin liked to stick fat with the 2021 Premiership players regardless of form, instead of grooming the next crop. We are paying the price for that now.

I reckon Bedford would have been a walk-up start to our best 22 in 2024 and that it was part of our plan. We offered him a competitive contract so clearly weren't trying to offload him. I think he's an excellent pressure player and has that rare combo of being speedy and an endurance beast. He's also performed well as a tagger. The major downside is that he's a small forward who can't kick for [censored].

It would be sad to see Owies leave the Blues. He is a bit of an enigma as a forward, has definite limitations as a footballer but yet still has a good goal scoring record. He isn't really a crumbing forward, he moves into open space to take marks and is a solid kick for goal.

I think the market will pay him more than he is currently on at Carlton and the Blues want to reserve cap space for Weitering, TDK and maybe some new incoming trades. That is why he is being allowed to explore his options

Definitely would not be a flop inward trade like Billings. Owies will earn his keep.

He always kicks goals against the Dees.

Couldn’t agree more on all points.

If he doesn't play against us on that wet Thursday night this year, we go 12-11 instead of 11-12.

Kept bobbing up for goals when we tried to make inroads on the scoreboard in the second and third quarters.

Tony Lockett was 3 times worse.

If my aunty had wheels, she’d be a bike.

Suggest rumours only … perhaps by blues list management 🤣🤣

Watching those highlights he looks very handy, I reckon he'd be a great addition.  Let's go get him!

Way better prospect than Caleb Daniel.

33 goals in 24??? Get him in, oh and Kennedy as well!

I'm all for Owies if it means Pickett spends more time in the midfield. What pick would we have to give to get him?

Yep -1 trick pony.

Josh Gabelich who's across everything confirmed that we've met with Owies. But so have a number of clubs including Brisbane.

Is understood to be poor defensively which is why Carlton aren't in a hurry to re-sign him.

Maybe Pickett’s asked for a trade to Freo

Yeah maybe.

Owies coming in to replace Kozzie isn't exactly a mood improver.

There is not much in ability between Bedford and Chandler but Bedford is a more  standard type half forward and has wider skills and can tag.
Chandler is stronger and tackles and competes harder but is not as skilful as Toby.

Spargo is better than either but Kossie is easily the best but if more time is put in with him he could go to another level I believe.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
