I know how hard Flags are to win, but losing 4 Finals in succession and still having the same gameplan is unacceptable to me.
That said, he will Coach in ‘25

Whether he sees the Year out is up to him

The loss to Carlton in the finals last year was totally on the players goal kicking, missed about 8 shots in a row in the third quarter!

Yep, we finished 14th

I'll pay this, but he *did* send a tag to Daicos on KB, and it truly did limit his damage. Poor willingness to contest from players isn't within the coach's purview on gameday.

Selection I don't see as a gameday issue, and I very highly doubt it is all Goodwin's call, but agree to disagree.

Edit: apologies for sidetracking the thread, but back on topic: Gutnick obviously has some time to kill given he can't be a director for any companies at the moment. Gotta keep that public profile happening somehow

I wasn't referring to the KB Game but the final game this season where Daicos did what he liked, that was terrible coaching IMO, I would have got Nibbler on to him right from the start with the instructions, use anything within the rules to shut him out of the game.

Sometime forward structure and tactics play a role in poor set shot outcomes as well. If most of your inside 50s are shallow and along the boundary less of them will result in goals than when you had fowards that found space and got in better positions to kick goals.

Just had a couple of seventh day adventists come to the door.

They had never heard of goodwin. Or Joe.

They've gone now.

Maybe he’s trying to get him to donate to the new training ground… 😂

If true that would be a very misguided idea

Particularly as Joe still owes the Club $2.4m of the money he promised

Paid $1.7m to creditors to escape $305m of debt in a bankruptcy settlement. He's a slippery man.

Your information about the amount he owes is incorrect. Last reports were that the shortfall was around $300,000 but, as much as I would like to see him fork up the money, he technically owes nothing because of the bankruptcy in the intervening time period.

Morally, I don't believe he should be using his former position as a club President and benefactor to utter a single word about the club to anyone including the media whilst that amount remains unpaid. He should STFU.

Failing to make Prelims in 2022 and 2023 is a failure. We have failed the last 3 seasons.

Also losing Semi finals means you didn't finish in the top 4.

So by your definition, Hawthorn's year was a Failure cos they didn't me the Prelims by a kick!!!!!!

Mark Robinson reporting in a Herald Sun article that former MFC President Joseph Gutnick met current President Brad Green, apparently to make the following suggestions:-

● MAKING the disgruntled Christian Petracca the heir apparent to skipper Max Gawn.
● STRONGLY endorsing Green as the permanent president;
● URGING a settlement in the bitter legal dispute between the club and former president Glen Bartlett
● KEEPING under-fire chief executive Gary Pert.

According to Joe:

"I told Brad that if I was president I would ask the coach to move on," Gutnick said.

"I know there would be players who wouldn't agree with me, however, 100 per cent of the supporters I'm friends with, both Jewish and non-Jewish, think he should move on.

"Melbourne needs a rejuvenation and injection and that's one of the ways to do it."

Pity that Robbo hasn’t taken the trouble to do a fact check on the claim which sounds ludicrous to me. I’m Jewish and have friends who support the club who are both Jewish and non-Jewish and zero per cent of my friends have suggested they hold that belief.

The person who I believe should move on is Gutnick himself - I once supported the bloke but that was 20 years ago. Today, he has zero credibility when it comes to football.

Why is he talking about Jewish and Non Jewish people?

I admire and appreciate what he has done for the club in the past.

But this sort of dichotomy of supporters opinions is strange.

Both my Catholic and non Catholic friends agree with me on this.

Agree entirely. I found it to be personally offensive that he discussed the situation that way. The days when people are identified by religion, race or nationality when they enter sporting arenas or anywhere else through different entrances or that those things should determine your viewpoint of a person’s performance should be a thing of a distant past and he should be ashamed of himself for the way in which he’s conducted himself on this issue.

It’s not a reflection of my Jewish values.

I like your position on this WJ.

Religion or race has SFA to do with this and many other issues .

He seems to be struggling for relevance.

Rubbish. He paid $2.7m of $3.0m he pledged. $300k short.

Biggest individual donor to the club so  yeah let’s have a go at him.

Tbh I did like his red and blue yamaka.

I hope I spelt that correctly.

Watching Bedford and Hogan last night, I don't think Goodwin has much footy vision.

I'm not going to get out a pen and paper and do the hard yards to confirm, but the anagram 'go to bed Gutnik' immediately pops out in your username, along with 'dunked goodbin',

To be king also pops out. Could be Prince William. Conspiracies🤔 All the same, think a change in coaching direction and list management is needed aspa.

Did you have this view when Hogan was stinking it up at Fremantle and May was helping us win the flag?

edit:  Not sure why you raised this on the Gutnick thread.

I'm not sure as to how many of you here are subscribers but my wife is and, as a result I voted and I also left a comment about the way I feel.

Anyone who knows about polling, will tell you that the conclusion reached by Robinson about Melbourne supporters' attitudes to Gutnick's comments is fatally flawed. The respondents could be supporters of any one of the 18 AFL clubs or indeed, supporters of none of them. This is shocking but unsurprising given the consistently anti MFC reporting from this newspaper.

If you subscribe to the the Herald Sun, you too can vote and leave a comment (up to you how you vote and what you write). It will be interesting to see if it gets a pass from the moderator.

Update (1): The Herald Sun’s moderator decided not to publish the above comment. I wasn’t surprised but I don’t give up easily so I had another try.

Update (2): They published the second comment (apologies to my wife for forgetting to identify myself this time).

Update (3): I’m not going to give up on this one. Robbo used a poll on his site to claim there was some “mutiny” among Demon fans against Simon Goodwin when, as a senior experienced journalist, he would know that the poll does not support such a claim. He should apologise to Goody, the club and supporters. I’m looking at my options as to how best my objection to this should be made.

Oh god the irony in this.. lol

A moderator on here whinging about the Herald Sun heavily moderating comments which ironically this forum does the exact same thing...

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
