Her specialist area was facilities. On that she didn’t deliver and that’s the bottom line.

One thing that I’m gobsmacked about is the way some people on here make comments like this while they are completely oblivious to the process involved in the club securing a home base. That process has been extensively  covered in material issued by the club and also in media articles.

Essentially, the move to secure a site within the Caulfield Racetrack is a work in progress that is undergoing examination and consultation and the final decision is outside the hands of the MFC Board.

To suggest that the fact that Kate Roffey has yet to deliver this option or any other within a given timeframe and is therefore somehow a failure is risible and reflects a lot of the warped thinking that’s enveloped our club over the past months.

I find this very sad.

The best news this morning is Caro has dished the dirt on Collingwood and the huge bust-up between Wright and Kelly. Not all is happy at Pie land. So good to have a story that isn't about MFC. Where are Maclure, Morris and Warner when there is a carcass to feed on? I also expect the carrion to attack Bevo &  Hinkley after 2 finals floggings.

What’s risible is your gaslighting.

10 years and no home base. I hope the Caulfield project gets up but no one can say it’s not before time.

You can understand the frustration of supporters whose club has the worst facilities in the AFL, with having to wait at least 10-13 years from a Club Board who said it was a major aim of theirs, without a definite announcement that a new site has been approved, let alone have the project finished.

When the announcement comes, that will be great news for the club, but the frustration of the supporters is understandable.

There will be time to congratulate those responsible for the new facility, when it is closer to a reality.

As far back as I can remember the issue of a social club/home base has been constantly promised by club boards and administrations for fifty years, not just ten. But if we must, then why not call every one of them in that time frame failures including the previous two presidents as well as Peter Jackson and Gary Pert, the CEOs in that time frame.

Roffey became President in 2021, the club won an AFL Premiership that year and an AFLW Premiership the following year. Yet, she leaves as a failure in the eyes of frustrated supporters because we have a planning system in this state that is infamous for red tape and delays.

Sheesh.

11 years after joining the board, we are still at the “Planning” stage of a Home Base.
Some Clubs have rebuilt their Facilities in that time…

The Radio interview was appalling from a Club President

Rebuilding existing facilities like Geelong and Richmond is completely different to starting from scratch. Administrations from before PJ & Roffey lost out on Olympic Park to Eddie and Collingwood.

We do have excellent facilities in two locations, one opposite the G, the other at Casey which are far better than the rat infested [censored] we occupied 15 years ago.

But can you name one club that’s been able to secure a new site with facilities in the past decade such the one in the Caulfield proposal?

Syd read my post again.

I didn’t call anyone a failure, I spoke about the frustration of supporters waiting for years with the worst facilities in the AFL, without a definite announcement of the new site being approved.

Can you please point out where I used the word failures.

Some might be labelling her a failure but most acknowledge her contributions to the club. Helping to steer the ship after what happened in 2021 won't be forgotten and she had been a huge backer of the AFLW.

I hope she stays involved, even if just continuing to be at games.

You quoted my post which was a response to BDA who claimed that Roffey didn’t deliver and therefore was a failure. BDA claimed that my response was gaslighting and you supported that as understanding some supporters’ frustrations. In the context of what I wrote, you were implicitly supporting that claim.

l think supporters realise that she became prez midway through our premiership year when l think we were around 10 or so wins without a loss. Footy dept changes were made in the preseason my pert well before. l can still appreciate her 11 years of service however as a volunteer in very difficult but rewarding positions. Surely other past board members also deserve just as much credit

Do you have a link to those “communicated strategic plans”?

She bacame president just before we beat Geelong to go 4-0 but I take your point.

No, referring to the old one in 2020. We need to start construction soon as l understand. Have you had a search?

Hawks @ Dingley

Essendon Fields

To a lesser extent Adelaide (Thebarton) and Bulldogs (Ballarat) as a community oval already existed.

Any chance Smith can use his MCC connections to get us back in the MCG where we belong?

Sadly, no. The demand's on the surface were too great 30+ years ago for us to be allowed to train on it.

However, since the current MCC president Fred Oldfield is a keen Demon fan, with Smith at the MFC we would not be disadvantaged at all.

I'm not aware of Brad Green's attitude to lockdowns, but what relevance does it have as a board member or acting president? I suspect your question is politically motivated. Do you have to be a card carrying unionist?

Wrong think I suspect

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
