Surely Tim Lamb can’t survive a fourth consecutive year of doing SFA in the trade period ? We’re not improving

I look at it as a bonus that Lamb isn't stuffing up our list this year with aging rejects from other clubs.

I'm not saying Derksen is a reject because GWS clearly want to keep him. And he's young enough to have upside.

The trade period is still early, so Lamb has plenty of time to stuff things up.

If Derksen isn’t available it sounds like we’ve got SFA to look forward to for the rest of the trade period

Here’s to the pick swaps 🙌

I don't get why we don't go after Tim Membrey!!! always kills us when we play the AINTS!

Ignoring Tom Campbell are we?  A "ruck" 13 years in the system, now at his 4th club at 32 years old, played only 50 games and is barely taller than most forwards?  Talk about wasting a list spot

What's your plan for a Gawn injury? Tom Fullarton?

We didn't have a back up for Max

Fullerton is not a ruck

Verrall is still raw

Day one of the trading period and posters are bemoaning that we haven't yet brought in any players.

This happens every year.  You'd think people might learn to wait until the trade period is over before panicking.

When was the last trade period where we bought in a quality player late in the piece?

Lever, Hibbo, Melk, Langdon were all lined up weeks in advance. May I think set his sights on us pretty quickly too.

I have to go back to Mitch Clark which was a disaster in the end.

All the big names this year have clubs attached aside from Houston who is waiting to see if Coll/Carl get the currency.

The good news is we might get another Billings or Hunter. Fantastic. Great.

Yes, but if he played for us, he'd have no bunnies left to kick bags against.

Trade period runs for ten days.  Let's not lose our lunch on the morning of day one.

I would rate Lever and May above any player being traded this year, Houston included. Langdon, Melksham and Hibberd are up there with any of the other players who have already moved or are talking about moving in trade or free agency this year.

My point being that the available players this year are pretty poor. Perryman, Cumming etc, nice to have but nothing amazing. We were never a chance at the WA returners so they are ignored from the discussion.

While we're not getting much, we're not missing out on much.

Which is a farce. Should run 3/4 days max

You’re a little out there, should run for 3-4 months, if not longer.

The trade window should be from mid October until March with a summer break.

Proper free agency should occur with a busy rush in mid October.

If we get no one we get no one, draft is always more important to small clubs.

But I disagree with the idea a high quality player is suddenly going to come to us.

Our main target was Houston. Our second target with Derksen.

I’d be shocked if we get anyone of quality. But some times the best pick ups are the bargain buys, they just haven’t been for us in a long time.

Should be trades all year round. HQ would not like as they like to dominate the sports news cycle.

I hate the way in some leagues you can top up late in seasons, at most a mid year deadline. And even then I’d prefer if mid year is only for fringe players somehow.

But if they had trade deadlines in late November (summer trade window), March (pre season) and a mid year window they’d have 3 periods of movement and a bumper free agency period in October. Plus more movement around the draft.

Pretty pathetic by GWS not to consider a trade. They have heaps of depth in KP players, he has family reasons to want to be in Melbourne and they haven’t given him a game. Hardly a player to really put your foot down on. I hope he leaves next year for nothing.

Lamb didn't sound too convincing re Derksen and GWS been firm. Not great signs.

Only early doors. Plenty of time left to surprise everyone.

Axis - well we saw that didn’t work; didn’t appear to even considered when we were at ruck rock bottom.

GWS are simply spitting the dummy here.  They’ve lost Perryman, Cumming, Peatling. Haynes.   They must have a toxic culture.  Their players can’t wait to get out.  Cameron. Caldwell. Taranto. Hopper. Treloar. Shiel. Tomlinson. Williams. And plenty more have walked out.

A young bloke who hasn’t been played wants a better situation for his family.  He’s stuck behind too many at the Giants who are stacked with tall defenders and tall forwards.   Strange decision by the Giants.

If I’m Lamb, I’m still pushing and asking the question. I’d offer Pick “48” on the table.  Thats more than reasonable. If the Giants hold out or ask for more, its disrespectful to the Dees, to Derksen and his family.

Can someone explain exactly WHY we ever got Fullarton??? Rucks at Casey, but not a forward! Whoever decided he was worth a list spot should be shown the door!

Verrall has been on the list for two years, that would suggest we have failed in the necessary development phase. Casey is a bit of joke at the moment.

Max Gawn was drafted in 2009.

2010 = 0 games

2011 = 4 games

2012 = 0 games.

4 games in three years before he went on to develop into one of the best ruckman of all time.

Rucks take longer.

It's the same person/people who re-signed Schache for another year. However, according to many on here the decisions were justifiable because Fullarton and Schache were cheap depth, lol.

Hopefully the football department review weeds out the incompetent decision makers from the past 3 years.

Alot of drama is being made of late picks used on depth players, yes they have failed, but l am more focussed on getting and using our top picks such as windsor and kolt. houston is overpriced in my view also

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

    As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

    Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

    The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
