Yes as long as the review has been conducted independently

So it should be someone who has or had no affiliation with the club?

I was against having an external review (I was never against an internal review). I'm a 'close ranks when under fire' sort of person and when we were being bombarded from all quarters, I preferred to trust those we have in official elected/appointed positions. However, I acknowledge the strong feelings of many MFC supporters and ex-players and ex-officials, who think that an external review is required. I haven't seen a transcript of what Nathan Jones has said, but he is the tipping point for me... bring it on!

Of course if you don't have the ability to debate, it is easier to fall back on personal insults.

Don't need an apology. I am used to having a battle of wits with unarmed posters on here.

Did he say it, or just reported as saying it

Interviewer "Jonesy, do you think a review would be helpful in the present situation?"

Jonesy "probably"

You pride yourself on talking to players/FD staff/officials.

In a number of posts your tone about Peter Lawrence has been quite, well nasty really.

I assume you haven’t taken the time to talk to or contact Peter Lawrence? I have found him to be an affable person and happy to engage with fellow Demon tragics. It’s not hard to make contact with him, and you might learn something.

Have we acquiesced to the press and the kindly Mr Lawrence, None of whom have been elected to the Board of the MFC, if a Complete Review of our recently successful club is undertaken by an External organisation it could turn into a complete mess, witch hunt even. The club could really become destabilised and set back years. Be careful of what you clamour for.

There is a certain Court Case that could do exactly the same thing, so it may well be worth doing the external review, before that happens…

How about an external review of the AFL?

Now your talking and especially the MRO and Jeff Gleeson!

If you're referring to me as the newly arrived, do-gooder football supporter then you've gone off the rails. I've been a supporter all my life and attended the 1960 and 1964 Grand Final wins. Yourself?

Also, who said the football club had the best culture for 40 years? Pert? He would say that, wouldn't he.

Sacre Blue: you get around, Il Signor Dante. And you had time to write The Divine Comedy AND The Inferno!!!

That brings back memories.  In the 90's I would see his and other muso's concerts ( Vikka and Linda Bull, Vince Jones (until he lost the plot) , Archie Roach etc) at The Continental (The Conti) in Prahran.  A little gem of a place; small room with cabaret style layout: tables near the low stage and a few stools at the bar to the rear.

I chuckle that today, Paul Kelly is famous among the young brigade!  Not sure if they have musical heroes of their own generation...🤷‍♀️

  1. I believe we need a review
  2. I have reviewed the Club over the last three weeks
  3. I recommend a review.

I'm not against an external review

but don't kid yourselves the external "independent" reviews are the be all and end.

the terms of reference (which you will probably never know) are absolutely key here

most organisations who open themselves up to a review like to carefully curate the process, set the limits and importantly pay the reviewer who operates under conditions of privacy including the findings.

we've all seen plenty of political reviews/inquiries/whatever where the end result was predetermined or at least managed.

so, have a review but don't get your expectations unrealistically high

I don't agree with you, your definition of not listening?

Unfortunately I think there will be an external review driven by the media noise to shut it up

And what do you expect it to find?

Hypothetical, should the following have external reviews:

Collingwood premiership to not qualifying.

Essendon, another false dawn.

Fremantle, Jackson is the missing link.

Gold Coast and North, let us hire the messiah coach and with the lists we have.

St Kilda, only started to play when pressure was off.

West Coast, did Simpson stay too long and why are coaches saying they are not interested.

Those comparisons are inapt.

Easily done.  The club knows how many times the card/phone was scanned for each membership.  Just refuse to renew their membership if too low.  They may well have other interests or family duties preventing attendance but are renewing out of loyalty.  So win-win if MFC knock them back.

Right so punishing the most loyal - super business, that.

Agree 100%, dc

At one stage, I worked for a large Management Consulting company and what you describe was the client's MO every single time, - regardless of the industry or size.

imv, an organisation wide review should be commissioned by the Board.  If the scope is narrower then Pert but hopefully it is organisation wide.

We probably went to many of the same gigs Luci

I spent a lot of time at the Conti back then

Very sad day when The Conti closed down.

When it comes to self- sacrifice I'm much like the bugler at the start of Peter Sellers "The Party".

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
