OMG Kate Roffey interview on Whateley what a train wreck! I had my suspicion about the leadership at MFC now I am convinced. We need an outside audit of the club not another Gary Pert inside job. If we have got the best culture in 40 years of Pert’s experience then we have nothing to hide. I am however sceptical. It is obvious our President is out of her depth. Gary Pert was appointed without Due Dilligence against the express wishes of Peter Jackson ( the best Administrator the Club has had in 40 years). Peter wanted Josh Mahoney and was prepared to mentor him. Pert was bundled out of Collingwood following an external review. He is a spin doctor and has cast a spell over Roffey who does not have a AFL background .The other leader under the spotlight has to be Alan Richardson also ex Collingwood in that era followed by a underwhelming stint as St Kilda Coach. He must take overall responsibility for our list going backwards in last 3 years.

The members should demand this external review now. If all good no probs we all move on but I suspect it won’t

Are Pert and Roffey really responsible for any of our issues? I would say no.

Roffey has kept a closed shop since taking charge, but had we done what the previous guy wanted, we might not have won the flag in 2021.

Leadership is an enabler (or disabler) of culture; Roffey and Pert are absolutely correlated with the current climate. At the very least, even if they are not the causative reason for our issues, they are an enabling reason.

I think people need to calm the farm a bit.

Roffey spoke poorly & should resign, but getting rid of her does not solve club culture, we won't start playing electric football again, she isn't responsible for our terrible recruiting, nor off field antics of players, Petracca won't stay if she leaves either, we have bigger issues throughout. It doesn't just end with her gone, we need a whole club clean out/direction and buy in.

I dare say the president of the club will solve some culture. That person will have a direct affect on everything

The club is bigger than the individual.... except if it's Roffey, Pert, or Goodwin.

We may lose trac, but keep them. We are stuffed.

I'd love PJ to do an external review. He's one of only two at the Dee's (admin) that I've had full faith in. He's so strong on good governance - it's exactly what we need. But, keep in mind he's retired, so you can put a line through him for Pert's job. I'm more than happy for him to replace Roffey though if he didn't do the review!

I think CEOs are actually the main driver of culture.  They manage every department.  They need an aligned board. If you get a great playing group and everything goes right you can win a flag, but without an aligned board and CEO who are strong on culture success is inevitably fleeting. 

Brian Cook is the best CEO in the business.  This is a really long watch but really great video about his thoughts, culture, and alignment.

He totally sorted out West Coast from 1990-1998. Geelong's current era started with him becoming the CEO in 1999.  He had a lot of issues to deal with during that time with a rebuild, player behaviour, coaches etc but stuck to his philosophy around culture. Geelong's outstanding culture over the past 20+ years was not driven by Bomber Thompson!

I'm a bit worried about Carlton now that he is there.  I preferred the 8 years prior when they never played finals.

I think her immediately stepping aside would at least show some accountability for what has gone on this last 18 months and would signal to Petracca and others things are been taken seriously

Need more than her, like I mentioned, she is not responsible for all of the other issues. Petracca is gone, and I'd doubt Roffey is why.

As for a trade, until we know who he wants to go to, it's just a guess. Have we ever seen a MEGA trade?

It's absolutely extraordinary if the clubs president hasn't been keeping in contact with Petracca and his family following life threatening injuries.

It's looking like the club he wants to go to, has absolutely no trade capital, as openly discussed by said club's coach on radio.
