That is great news Matty Whelan has a very high opinion of him when i spoke to him he has a Rugby Background and tackles below the Waist you watch he will become a very good player

Re Ollie Sestan and KFW who are both speculative picks on the rookie list. Recent changes to Rookies now allow 5 years to develop players in particular rucks. This may also include Luker who is a big strong lad.

KFY is a basketballer who was sent to the ammo's to get some experience as a first ruck. I have watched him there and seen improvement. He has a decent leap and a good set of hands but clearly hasn't played a lot of footy. His family is always there supporting him and I think I read somewhere that the MFC dietician had outlined a diet designed to bulk him up. He has a great attitude.

Ollie wasn't in the conventional system but is a natural footballer who if anyone noted put in an enormous pre-season. His first full preseason, and a massive change in body shape. he trimmed down, got fitter and spent more time in the midfield. One of his metrics was to get from 12 km a game up to 15km. He would go into centre bounces where he showed he was good at getting clearances. The only MFC-listed players at Casey who could get clearances were Ollie, Laurie & Pup Brown. Too many are quick to judge and I trust the club to decide which metrics he has achieved. I believe he has earned another season.

Luker, well he is young, relocated and put into an elite system which would have been a massive culture shock. AMW has taken 3 years and is now starting to blossom but he started from a long way back. Just look at his early photos and his physique now.

It is unreasonable to have too high an expectation of any of these 3 and each needs time to develop.

Ben Brown (retired), Josh Schache, Joel Smith and Lachie Hunter will all likely be delisted.

I am not convinced on Marty Hore having AFL level talent and would probably delist him as well.

Kyah Farris-White looks a mile off it. I think I would delist and get a mature back up for Gawn.

From what I have seen from Luker Kentfield, I think he will struggle to ever be mobile enough to play AFL footy and he has not shown enough with his marking and kicking to be confident.  I think I would delist.

Kynan Brown should definitely get another year and is a player who I think will make the grade.

Tom McDonald and Jake Melksham should be given another year and are still in our best side.

Andy Moniz-Wakefield has shown enough to get another year.

Ollie Sestan has shown a bit but the club should only re-contract him if they think he will ever get AFL level endurance.

Adam Tomlinson would be one we would like to retain for depth but he is really only a back up for May.

Will Verrall has shown enough to get another year.

MEDICAL RETIREMENT. GUS

Retire. Jake Melksham. Ben Brown

delist. Josh Schache, JS29, Lachie Hunter, Ollie Sestan, Kyah Farris-White

Trade. Adam Tomlinson. ANB

promote AMW

That’s 9 LIST spots available !!!

Will Verrall & Jed Adams has shown enough to get one more year. Luker Kentfield stays to see if he’s capable.

Tmcd gets another year due to lack of upcoming defenders

McAdam, Billings, Laurie all to be registered as charities so Dees can claim as tax deductions !!!!

thats 7 lucky blokes

Not impressed by AMW? I am, very

He has a nice package of skills but his work rate and discipline to defend was a mile off afl footy. He’s never got close to doing a full preseason, which can be seen as a positive but also means he really has to do it now or it might be never.

So how deep do we cut??

Tomlinson surely goes. The case for Hore is difficult - he’s clearly not an afl level athlete even if he’s a very respectable footballer.

Do we just pay out Billings? Every week he plays he shows he has no real interest in being an AFL player.

Do we just pay out Laurie’s 2 year deal?

Sestan? It was a fun idea. But the VFL stats are ordinary and the athleticism just isn’t there.

Thoughts?

Of this list.

B Brown is known. I would also delist KFW, Hore, Hunter, Schache, Sestan, Smith. I suspect Tomlinson looks after itself via free agencyh. TMac deserves to go around again if he chooses as does Melksham with the loss of mature leadership we have lost with Gus and ANB. Verrall, AMW and Kynan have shown good development for age.

So that'll be 10 list changes.

Not saying I disagree, but do we have enough picks to even cover 10 players?

Here are the expected delistings (and tradings)...

1) Angus Brayshaw - sadly forced to medically retire

2) Ben Brown - retired

3) Josh Schache - just not aggressive or competitive enough

4) Joel Smith - for reasons we cannot discuss

5) Alex Neal-Bullen - traded back to South Australia for family reasons

6) Lachie Hunter - unfortunately too many injuries

7) Kyah Farris-White - probably best to just play VFL and bulk up his body more

8) Adam Tomlinson - will probably ask to be traded to seek more senior opportunities

9) Tom Sparrow - he continues to frustrate me with the way he plays and I am not against trading him back to South Australia

Delist:  Hunter, Smith, KFW

Retire: BBB, Gus 😭

Trade: ANB, Tommo(out of contract will surely look elsewhere)

Will possibly be a couple of kids not offered contracts too, I think Schache getv1 year just to cover Tommo.  Can't cut too deep with height.

On notice for 2025: Billings, McAdam, Sparrow, Fullerton, Laurie

I assume we will just roll Melksham over to another 1 year deal?

sounds strange but it's a lot of experience likely out the door this off season, perhaps we need to have a look at a couple of older guys coming back in.

We need to be really hard on this list. Not a good time for sentimental decisions. Now, before Tassie team set everyone down the bottom back ten years.

Fair call.

I'd probably give Milk another lap.

I count it as 9 but close enough. If they are not up to it and out of contract then I would prefer us to look at someone mature outside untried or retried than someone we know is not going to make a difference (recontracting Schache a good example). I assume 2 of the spots are Yze and Mentha. Then I will assume 3-4 in a quality draft with depth. So I dont think it would surprise that we bring in 3-4 players from other clubs in trade or delisted FA’s to improve our depth and balance out some of the lost maturity over 2023/2024.

...and everyone has forgotten Brayshaw from the list. ...although Kentfield theoretically replaces him, but is also OOC.

And if we keep TMac and Melksham for another year, at the end of that year we already will see them go, and probably Fullarton, Billings and McAdam........5 gone at the end of 2025 already.

Absolutely no point in bringing in players from other clubs if all they do is sit at Casey.  If they are backup for senior guys they should be first picked at Casey and play super well. We have our own ordinary players.  Do not need any other clubs below AFL standard players.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
