Some press have been commenting on Viney's comments after the match, but have left out the "nah", instead focusing on the "we'll see how it pans out". Thoughts?

Was at the game and it was bloody hot. So hot I was sweating in places that I haven’t since last summer.

I must admit one, I thought we would get smashed and two, thought we would get run over in the last due to the heat. Well I am very happy to say I was wrong on both counts.

Jack Viney was bloody awesome to watch and one of the best games I have seen him play.

Pity we couldn’t have strung consistent games together this season as we would be playing finals if we did but that’s the way things have panned out this season unfortunately.

God I hope we beat those arrogant, lying and good for nothing collywobbles next week and end the finals bid

Go dees.

Their finals bid is dead and buried already with Carlton's mauling of WCE.

Let's beat them anyway.

No, definitely don’t need to. Some pretty scathing stuff there even when thinly veiled, none of which sounds good for the future

As someone who's neurodivergent myself, I'd be careful about making too many assumptions along these lines, though I understand both what you're saying and that you mean well. The vast majority of neurodivergent kids have a horrendous time growing up and are bullied from pillar to post with long-term consequences, some of which can be insurmountable.

Similar comments on being "childlike". A wonderful quality to have - but one that exposes you to manipulation and abuse.

Understandable and wonderful to hear that Clarrie is profoundly appreciative of the support and understanding he has received.

Anyway, great win yesterday on the back of some strong leadership onfield and off.

My very good mail has it that Trac wasn't happy with this initial press release after his injury. It was too footy centric where he would have prefered a bit more sympathy towards the seriousness of the injury and that footy is taking a back seat whilst he concentrates on his health and the timeline will look after itself. This on top of everything else this year has led to leaks from his management, particularly wanting to play for a club with a bigger following so he can play in front of bigger crowds and set himself up more after footy.

He's been alone with his thoughts for too long and not been around the club. He needs a cuddle and reassurance and we'll get him back on side. He will be held to his contract.

Can’t blame him there - that press release stinks! I also don’t remember there being any kind of member comms from above about the injury, which might have compounded that feeling for Trac. (I’m  talking specifically about emails from Pert, Roffey etc - the socials team definitely did what they could!)

My read (speculation only) is that he was left to handle the media circus around his traumatic injury without the support he needed, while simultaneously trying to process the whole thing. It looked a bit like he was doing his own PR - gruelling fox footy interviews just days after the Collingwood game etc. I get that the club was keen for him to be the face of his own recovery but maybe he felt he was carrying too much? I think also if you’re not feeling adequately emotionally supported by your club, or if you feel like you’re being gaslit about the severity of the situation, of course your professionalism is going to drop from time to time, especially if you can find a sympathetic ear (who may or may not then leak that info to the media).

Again, pure speculation but I’m also hoping that a hug and some validation is all he needs. I can’t imagine how terrifying the whole experience must have been for him.

Not for the first time, the club's comms was completely hopeless, just as it was last year with the clarry circus and the Grundy situation.

I totally understand why he was furious.

Pert had done a lot right, but our. comms is appalling and at the end if the day, that's on him.

Completely agree.

I have Pert and Richo in the gun for all of this.

Both likely need to fall on their swords. One probably will, the other will likely be carrying out the review and protected...

Here's my take on it.

Well done boys ... good win. (But GC were very disappointing.)

Viney (obviously) played a blinder. And it was good to get games into the young fellas, who all showed a bit. Plenty of work to do over summer.

There has been quite a bit of talk about the Dees' dour game style. You know, why can't we play more attractive/ attacking football?

I think that the game style should largely be determined by the players on the list. We don't have too many excellent ball users, and so risky kicks inevitably lead to turnovers. I think our current game style is probably appropriate until we get more excellent ball users, and this should be a focus for recruiting and development. I wonder if Windsor has any younger brothers!

Yes I agree but I admit that I like Dwayne's commentary, particularly his zingers. He came out with one of his best during the last quarter when talking about Melbourne's tumultuous week: "You can look too deep into a burnt toast and see the image of Jesus".

Our lowest clanger count for the season (43). In fact our lowest in over two years.   Will reserve judgement as the GC were totally cooked in that last quarter, but if we see that sort of efficiency and ball movement next week (and that's the way we want to play) there's going to be a bit of head scratching over the summer as to personnel.

The only two missing from our full list were Maysie and Tracc. Even Lachie Hunter was there and actually deserves a medal for not being spotted anywhere. I mean, I spotted SpargiPants and he’s smaller than LH. I was on the boundary waiting to leave the ground  and SpargiPants was sitting on the bench by himself except for the guy on his laptop (Alex) who’s always there early. Spargz says what are you doing? I told him we have to stay put ‘til after the GC fireworks 🙄 I says what are you doing? He didn’t even look at Alex, just pointed in his direction as says “learning his job… just in case” then looked down at his leg. 😂

There's been some talk on here about Pert and Roffey.

I stay for the team leaving the ground each week, and each winning game at the G this year, Roffey's been at the gate acknowledging the team and Maybe its me, but Iv'e noiced Clarry and Kate hug in joy each time. Not staged.

Oliver has been a class act this year given the talk he's had to put up with and his hand injury etc.

As Dwayne Russel said on the weekend, in 2025 the Dees get back a fit Oliver and Trac and JVR has his break out year (supported by Disco) and posed the question why can't the Dees bounce back quickly. I agree.

Then Gawn re-signs and I bet Viney at some stage.

A couple of line coach mods and strategic approach with the talent list and  I'm bullish.

The 8 varies each year by 3 teams out and 3 new teams in. Same this year.

The Dees will be one of those three in.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
