The James Peatling Thread

Recommended Posts

He went to town against us a couple of weeks ago including 11 tackles and 18 contested possessions and is still only 23. Would be a great get for us.

Only seen him a few times.  But it’s a Yes from me.  He bought Giants back into contest v Lions.  Won 4 of 5 centre clearances.  Has the pace and skill and intensity to really make a difference.  Disposal efficiency high.  Tackling is a strength.   Interested to see if we could put a 4 year deal on offer.

Peatling is exactly the type of player we should have been pursuing over the past 3 years. Instead Lamb goes after 27yo unwanted players who's best was past them.

Has all the hallmarks of a future whipping boy but can do enough as a half back or half forward to fill a role and does his best as a tagger.

And all signs point to us having at least 1 if not 2 or 3 midfield/defensive half forward players.

Sorry meant he's stuck a bit low in the pecking order at GWS and wouldn't have that queue here. So we'd be able to offer regular first team footy etc

We had no need for Peatling in 22 or 23. Certainly did this year with JJ and Gus going out.

Definitely agree that we should’ve aimed for younger and higher upside recruits the last few years. Although they would’ve been dice roll types like Oleg Markov types not sure things.

We can now offer cash, picks and importantly best 22 opportunities.

I was referring to your 2nd paragraph, rather than specifically Peatling.

Gee he would be a handy pick up. We’re talking with him.

Smashed us a few weeks ago and loved his inside.

Stoked to hear we're talking to him.

Any idea which way it could lead to?

He is in my Supercoach draft team, so have been watching him closely over last few weeks. The kid can play when he gets a full game (been a sub for many games). Great clearance player, tackling machine and is very quick. Still a bit lanky but will continue to put on size with more preseasons. Out of all the trade targets we have had thus far (other than Houston), he is the one I’m most keen on - would be a huge addition to our midfield (for now and the future).

Its a shame he's not a Victorian. A local Western Sydney boy so if GWS are in fact upping their offer and can find a place for him in their best 22 then you would think he'll most likely stay.

It will be very interesting to see what happens now that GWS have players returning from injury, coming back to that midfield rotation. If he doesn't get much opportunity through the finals this might sway his decision making.

I can see him being their sub through the finals if they have a healthy list.

Lamb is going after him so maybe give it a rest?

You have skin in the game @Demon Time. I'm taking your recommendation seriously :-).

Peatling would be a great get for the club. In all the games I've seen him (not too many), he's shown speed and Viney-esque levels of intensity and desperation (IMO) amongst other qualities, but they both stood out and it's what we lack.

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
