It will be very interesting to see what happens now that GWS have players returning from injury, coming back to that midfield rotation. If he doesn't get much opportunity through the finals this might sway his decision making.

I'm not sure opportunity will be the driver in his decision making though.  Haynes and Ward going and at least one if not both of Perryman and Cummings means he will get opportunities next year if not in the finals this year.

I think the Giants are pretty tight on their salary cap now and so it might be a question of security.  The million dollar question for any list manager is how much is he worth in terms of $ and length in contract and will that be enough to get him to change teams?   I suspect if we aren't in the 2 million over 4 year ball park we won't be in the running to prise him out of Breakfast Creek.

Yes hard to see Peatling leave. Giants might lose Cumming and Perryman so they’ll use the extra $ to go to Peatling.  Hes shown he’s a quality player and he will get the deserved contract and $$$. If we could get him, he would be a very good addition.  But alas I think not.

The word from the Harbour City is that Collingwood is heavily into Peatling. This should serve as a warning to those in the Tracc to Collingwood camp because the Pies aren’t investing in a chase for Petracca as well as another midfielder. They have neither the cap space nor the ammunition for a trade.

With CP5 back in the fold, I think we should double up on our pursuit of Peatling. Our midfield needs to be revitalized and that can only come about via change.

They are also into Alex Davies from Suns and I think Hobbs from Bombers.

Looking for their Tom Mitchell successor

Bugger.. he's one of thought we'd be heavily into.

We’re still in this. Offering 4 years. His choice and will decide shortly

Sorry. I’d like to offer 5 years !!!

I’ve heard similar. We are the highest $$ offer.

My understanding is that he is most likely to stay at GWS.

If he doesn’t come to us at least we’ve gone down swinging!!

Compared to other clubs? Any idea who is leaning on?

I had Peatling in my Fantasy team at the back end of the year, so, naturally watched him pretty closely.

Good tackler, can do a job, links up ok, good speed and agility, average skills.

Would be an OK addition, but I wouldn't be perturbed if he stayed a Giant.

Is our 2nd rounder about the right price?

I haven’t seen lots of him although watched closely as he carved us up late in the year.

I believe he’s a free agent, but I’m not 100% sure

Leaning towards GWS. He's a local Sydney boy and now that he's got proper midfield rotation time he'll most likely stay.

As per Fox sports a few days ago:

BIG BLOW FOR VIC SUITORS IN RACE FOR VERSATILE GIANT

Potential Victorian suitors have been dealt a big blow with Giants utility James Peatling expressing his desire to sign a new deal with the club.

Peatling had been linked to multiple clubs across the competition given his versatility but looks increasingly likely to remain in the charcoal and orange beyond this season.

“Everything is moving in the right direction,” he said on SEN.

“We are just taking our time with it, we wanted to focus on the finals and me playing consistent football because that’s something I haven’t done yet.

“Everything is trending in the right direction, and I love where this club is at so, hopefully we can get something done soon.”

The mature-age Giant has averaged 14 disposals, five tackles and 3.5 clearances this campaign.

Peatling said he “100 per cent” planned to remain at the Giants in 2025 and beyond and looms as a key factor in the Giants’ semi-final with Brisbane this weekend.

Cumming, Haynes and probably Derksen frees up some cash for the Giants. If they lose Perryman they’ll probably match the highest offer.

If Perryman suddenly decides to stay they might have to let him go.

But I’m glad we’re having a red hot go.

Let's turn our attention to Callum Brown and/or Riccardi

Agree - Brown would be my preferred target but either would be a step up on our tall forward options especially if Petty is sent back to D50 next season

After just watching Gettable, Cal Twomey said that 6 clubs are after Peatling, and made no suggestion that Peatling had committed to staying at GWS. Cal Twomey is probably the most credible journo when it comes to player movements.

Peatling told GWS during finals he's staying if he gets mid time.

We must've seriously upped our offer if this is true.

All good! Just sharing some quotes from Peatling himself :)

GWS have a deep midfield so i’m not sure they can guarantee that

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
