Thats a nothing statement he said. He has to come out and unequivocally kill the rumour and clearly say he is staying put and not seeking a trade. This story has created a great stink and will only cause more harm unless he really wants to go in which case the circus will go on.

And as much as i can't stand Morris, he, and his masters, are only responding to demand from consumers.

One of the curious things about the discussion about social media platforms prioritizing hate and division in their algorithms is the one way criticism. That's to say its all reserved for the platforms and their owners and none for their consumers - us. 

The algorithm is simply responding to what consumers are attracted to - anger, car crashes, conflict. It's ever been thus - for example the wall to wall coverage Jack The Ripper received - sold a lot of newspapers at the time. 

If we feed the trolls we get what we deserve.

I largely agree with you, but I'm still yet to be convinced we won't slide further next year; which, IMO, makes trading a future first extremely dangerous. I think there's a real chance we could be a bottom five side next year and I would likely think that the majority of us would be adverse, or at worst, agnostic (as it stands), to trading a top 5 pick for Houston. 

However, I don't wish to overly hijack this thread.

My guy Finn Callaghan is out of contract next year and he looks every bit of a superstar in the making.

He's childhood and best friends with Blake Howes and I think if there was a player in the competition I'd throw the war chest at its Callaghan. 

I'm not a big believer that we should be going out and spending big on a key forward as some continue to report in the media.

Collingwood won a flag with Mihocek and Mason Cox of all people. Build around JVR, Jefferson and Turner perhaps.

He didn't sugar coat the truth, and it's obvious there are issues at the club. You don't go from top 4 to bottom 6 if everything is sunshine and rainbows.

Well i'd say if you're releasing a statement in response to reports, a good place to start would be addressing the reports. 

I understand he hasn't because clearly there is some truth to them, but he still could/imo should have addressed them

I think as a supporter base at times we're very willing to just buy whatever the club is selling, this is the same CEO who went on SEN and said we have the best culture he's seen in 40 years at the same time the Clarry drama was playing out, which was clearly a laughable statement in reflection by any measure. 

We've got trade rumors around 3 of our stars, Trac, Viney and Oliver, shockingly low home game attendance, we've fallen out of the top 8 and most neutral supporters don't need to look too hard to realise things have been better at the club. 

Obviously he can't name names or give specifics around the concerns, but he can admit they exist and re-assure fans they'll do all they can to address them beyond speaking to players and coaches which is common place at every football club in the league every single off season regardless of the seasons outcome.

Clearly we've fostered a mindset of resilience and playing through pain and injury since the Burgess days. Perhaps this midset/tactic has taken to heavy of a toll?

Perhaps SG (or others in the FD) have played the card to often or too hard? If it's not Goody that's a source of discontent for CP5, who might a bigger influence than the head of high performance?

I agree with you that the forwardline talls are fine. I'd also argue that the backline talls are fine. I'd like more class at both ends of the field, but that's not absolutely necessary. It's the midfield.

I'd like Callaghan as well. I wrote this on the other thread, but we'll have a future 1st next year, and it's likely we'll be able to trade 2027 picks as well.

I think we can win it next year and we owe it to guys like Trac who signed long term deals to dip our toes in both pools (Houston and an elite talent this year).

I'd be backing our list management team to work our way back into the 2025 first round if needed.

I think we could do both. Talk is that from next year we can trade two years in advance, so could be able to trade 2026 and 2027 picks.

So the statement tells us that the club has been speaking with players to get feedback on what's gone wrong this year.

Piecing things together, it seems like Trac has taken that opportunity to ventilate issues he has with the club. If we believe Morris, those issues don't include Goodwin. 

Given how bad our fitness has been this year, I am going out on a limb here and suggesting (with no evidence at all) that one of his issues with the club has been our fitness program. I just wouldn't be surprised at all if his injury made him reflect more strongly on the fitness/health aspects of the club.

Oh no no I agree. I was actually just impressed that no one had entertained what it would look like yet (yes setting a low bar for Demonland). Not inviting this at all! no interest in trading a generational superstar in his peak years :)
