or "Typical of MFC culture.  While Christain is pushing his body hard at a training camp, the rest of the players are drinking at a B&F party".

From the Moment Gary Pert said on Radio last year that

“The Melbourne Football Club has the best Culture i have seen in 40 years”

the Media were always going to go hard on us. That’s the way it works.

Good to see that, Tim.  Thanks.  My two cents worth.

Two assumptions by him are presented as facts:

  • the club made the call whereas it is clear it was a mutual decision with full involvement of medical/fitness teams inside and outside the club.  Duty of care says they couldn't afford to put him at risk if his body wasn't ready for the camp.
  • the club wants to protect players.  Maybe Davis doesn't know Trac addressed players, was happily interacting with them at training and was with them for our last game.  It doesn't make sense that they suddenly need to be 'protected' from him !!!

imv there are more plausible reasons for the club agreeing/encouraging Trac to skip the BnF:

  • The stated reason by the club and Trac to get him ready for day one of the preseason.
  • As many DL's have said to protect Trac from fans inundating him with support or criticism.  His mental health needs to be a consideration in exposing him to the public.
  • The media would turn the bluey into a circus if Trac attended.   By not attending the focus is on the worthy award winners and the very worthy past demons in whose honour the awards are named.

Davis is usually a good commentator but that is not his finest hour.

Damo the 💩💩💩

IF ...

Brand Petracca has hated the criticism directed its way in recent weeks ...

THEN ...

choosing, again, to place Brand Petracca ahead of Demon Petracca certainly won't make the criticism disappear. This time he's off to an overseas training camp run by an energy drink company private sponsor, and will miss the Dees' best and fairest count. Once again, I am aware and respectful of the severe mental and physical damage he has suffered this season. But I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have missed the B&F if he was a chance to win it. And he could've made the arrangements to leave for the energy drink private sponsor engagement the day after the function.

Sometimes I wonder if he reads what he writes or if he ever heard the word 'logic'.

If Trac was a chance to win or even place of course he would be there!  Logically, that means he would have played the whole season so wouldn't need to rebuild his body for day one of the preseason.

And, surely, there isn't only one camp ... if he was fit he could go to the BnF and head to a later camp in the off season as he has in other years.

Like many others, Purple never lets facts get in the way of some juicy and derogatory 'click bait'

Why is anyone caring what the Media say?

It is completely irrelevant

Tracc could have died from injuries on the field 3 months ago

His priority is to get rehabbed and match fit.
End of [censored] story…..

Yep, he should have said we have the worst culture he has ever seen and then anything would have been an improvement.

Well that wouldn’t have been too far off the mark 12 months ago tbh…

Wow and we finished top 4 and but for a thug act and some poor kicking for goal, we might have been in another GF.

Imagine if we had a good culture then.

None of your logic around this makes any sense at all. What are the agreed facts.  I think what you have decided is a fact and what is actually a fact are two very different things.

The point is absolutely not the same irrespective of what source the story came from.  According to Morris and Barrett we have leakers inside the club.  That is confirmed as they named sources inside Melbourne as the origin of some of the stories about Tracc.  Have you considered that when sources inside Melbourne leak confidential information (Traccs brand stuff, ANB leaving etc), these sources are actually dishonest and unethical individuals, and therefore you cannot trust what they say.  Morris may be printing what they say, but fundamentally he is printing stuff leaked from dishonest people.

Sorry, don't follow at all, and clearly you haven't followed me either.

Of course there are agreed facts. I listed several such examples

For example it is an agreed FACT that at least 10 players have resigned with the club in the last 3 months.

I didn't 'decide' that was a fact. It is a fact.

As for the source of the leak not making a difference, you have clearly misunderstood me, as evidenced by your spiel about it which reads as if you are replying to an unrelated post.

I mean, I think i know whether the source of the leak was relevant to the point I WAS MAKING.

But whatevs.

Apologies. The facts you quoted I don’t disagree with and hadn’t focussed on them.  I was too irate after reading the long spiel where you stated several times that Tracc had been feeding Morris info.

Nearly had a heart attack: read 'resigned', then realized you meant 're-signed'.  Solecisms can kill, you know!

Like you, I find some of the comments on this topic reside in a looney bin.

Well, to be honest that feels like a sorry...but.

Next time you decide you want to vent about one of my long spiels because they make you irate, go to the effort of reading it to the end

Or don't- but don't have a shot at me.

Ironically, you perfectly made my central point:

Rather than simply accepting Morris’s narrative (WHOEVER FED IT TO HIM) at face value, people should consider the full range of agreed facts and then decide what they think is going on (and I'd add not go off half cocked).

You are quite right!

I just get tired of so many media knuckleheads writing stuff about the club or Trac, that doesn't make sense and many including dees supporters buy into it as fact.

And, while it was a little mischevious 🤣 of me I wanted to highlight that Purple is one of the biggest dumb...t media knuckleheads going round !!!

I've been impressed with Davis as well. Doubt he would be interested in giving up his media gig, but I would love for him to be involved at the club. Whether it be in a coaching capacity, leadership role or player management/welfare position.

What’s this decision got anything to do with what may or may not happen in 12 months time?  It won’t affect that matter at all.

I have thought about Pert’s comment and I believe he could well have probably meant this that Melbourne’s culture was the best at our Club for 40 years.

Only issue is that he may have also just said “best culture he has seen in 40 years”.

He has made no attempt to clarify his remark though at all.

Just a chance he fluffed his line.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
