After last year's disastrous performance, the much heralded Shand review and the 0-5 start, a progress report should have been at the top of Board meeting Agendas. Every. Single. Meeting.

Many times this year I have asked on DL 1) if Shand is still involved. And 2) why we haven't had an update from Green or the Board. Now we know the answer to 2).

On 1). As someone with a management consulting background I would bet my bottom dollar that Shand tried to implement the review but met with great resistance by the FD. It often happens that a department being reviewed doesn't believe in or like it. They give the consultant lip service, appear to be working with them but their resistance undermines the implementation.

Given Shand's main task this year was to work on leadership with off field and on field leaders the review implementation has failed. Lack of leadership was evident during the year and the last quarter on Sunday demonstrated the extent of our leadership void or incompetence.

I might add, It would be rare that a consultant does not report directly back to the sponsor (ie Green and the Board). My professional opinion is the Board did get feedback but didn't know how to handle it so just kicked the problem down the road. On Sunday those chickens came home to roost! And the paragraph quoted above is just a smokescreen.

Whether the Board didn't ask for progress reports, didn't know what was/wasn't happeing or didn't act on them is a dereliction of duty and a complete breakdown in due diligence.

Pathetic if this were the case.

Listened to his presser copy & paste, got asked about the leadership on field with so many of the core playing group the same who won a flag and he his reply was it’s a different group…. Wow in denial that these players are not listening to you Simon!

The killer line in today's interview has to be "I feel incredibly supported by the board." The death knell for any coach occurs when the board states that "They have complete confidence in the coach" That statement does not augur well for Simon. Read in today's Age article by Scott Spits, Goodwin feels the blowtorch.

I understand im in the minority, but I thought goodys presser was very good. Everything he said was spot on imo, and whilst I get people are sick of his constant messages and relatively predictable responses I think he's right in Everything he says. I also love the way he hasn't potted the players outwardly. Nothing to gain from that. Hopefully they repay his loyalty this weekend.

I 100% back him in for next year. Sure we need some change in the footy department and playing list in the off season, but I don'tthink Goody needs to go.

Respectfully I couldn’t disagree more.His reasoning is very self serving… don’t worry about the results ??? …we had a bad year in 2019 and then won a Premiership in 2021…if you accept his reasoning he will never be accountable for his team’s performance …because no matter what the drop off in win/ loss performance(from 2021 to now from 80% to currently 33%) , you ignore that and just trust in Simon and “his process” and at sometime in the future , he’ll bring us another Premiership. There is no accountability or rational evaluation of performance and it becomes more an act of faith.

Take the emotion out of it. Who out there is a better coach for our team and how many years would you give them to have us being a finals team. Its clear that weve lacked a genuine key forward since David Neitz, and the short lived cameo of Ben Brown was enough to get us the flag.

We blew golden opertunities in 2022 and 2023, and the last 2 years had seen us need to make changes. I feel like the emotional toll of the lack of a flag at the G is turning people into irrational thinkers on this subject. The weekends loss was a disaster but I put it more on the players than anyone else.

I'd that were true then Green wouldn't have been writing us letters telling us to expect finals at the start of the year.

Its fair to have gone in with confidence. But neither Trac or Clarry dominate like they once did. If you take that assumption out of the expectation and shandy it with the fact none of our young KPF stocks have really grabbed their roles then you get what you get.

I just don’t buy that the Coach can just wipe his hands of what has been nothing short of a collapse of our on field performance since 2021 and just blame the players. The Coach also has a significant say in the recruitment of players. The Magpies and Geelong have an older list than us but are performing significantly better. The fact is only a couple of Seasons ago we had a competitive team with a top midfield , a top defence and the best ruckman in the competition. Most of are Premiership players are still playing. We are now easy beats. I do not know of any high performance sports team , where a Coach can simply escape culpability after such a performance crash. I don’t buy we can’t do any better other than with Goodwin Really ? What is it about his coaching performances that suggest he is the best coach available? The answer objectively is nothing. He’s been at the helm when instead of establishing a dynasty ( which he openly said was his objective after the 2021 Premiership) to where the team is now a laughing stock , can’t run out games , has poor skills and is no longer competitive.

And it's hindsight to say the decline has been since 2021. We were in it to our eyeballs in 2022 and 2023.

I’d say that concept, of doing what we need to do and not just saying we’ll do it, came up internally this week, as that’s often what ends up coming through in his pressers.

Quite frankly whatever our performance this week , it will be meaningless ( unless perhaps if we lose again) the Eagles are one of the worst ( if not the worst side ) of the competition and their ranks have been decimated. A win over them proves nothing . Every game is an opportunity to perform. Meaningless waffle - a truism. The fact is they haven’t performed. Our win / loss ratio fell by 25 % approximately in 2022 and 2023 from 2021 , a further 25% in 2024 and by another 7% this season so far . From 80% to 33% and with most of the same players.
