The "fans", being fans of all clubs who chose to vote. A completely useless poll.

I presume - certainly hope - this is from the Shun's report, alph?

For those of us not of the Shun or Twatter persuasion, could  you elaborate on the terms of the poll, please (presuming there are any...)

As I've stated many times, I dont like Goodwin, I just cant warm to him and he has many faults but also quite a few strengths, but his biggest failing for me is he is too slow to react to changing state of the game when he has had a winning season with what worked the year before.

I dont think (as it stands right now) we should sack him, but...

If we play the same boring slow crud he will tie the noose for his own neck by round 15.

Who?

I don't see any better candidates in the market.

Simmo? Ken Hinkley if he gets sacked?

People calling to sack the coach just want some blood. Would set us back a few years IMO

Well that’s the very reason Simon needs to go or change his philosophy.
You have seen a power Club  self destruct with a lame administration in front of your own eyes. With an equally out of his use by date by at least 1,year.

We need drastically a change of style and attitude to footy with some fun back in the game. If not our fans will leave as we are unattractive and not entertaining.

It pains  me to say that with 3 or more of our champions playing still and individually are still great.
But the team needs a refresher from the coaches.

This thread will be an interesting read in mid July next year I reckon. For better or worse. Regardless, Goody is under the pump.

Of course the pressure will be on next year...along with a host of others including Voss, Bevo, McRae if they fail again, Longmuir, Nicks, Clarko...Dimmer if they tread water

Kenny kicks it all off this weekend and Fagan is on shaky ground if Brisbane get bundled out.

It's probably easier to list who is not under the pump...Scott (Chris), Longmire, Kingsley..

I really don't understand the calls to move Goody on, from 2021 - 2024 our record is

Wins: 60 - 66%

Losses: 29 ( 12 of those this year)

Draws: 1

Finals

Wins 3

Losses 4

Premierships 1.

In terms of pure football performance, that's a record that puts us right up the pointy end of the competition in that period, and you could argue we underperformed losing 4 close finals in that time.

The grass isn't always greener

Would be the ultimate kneejerk reaction to sack our only Premiership coach of the last 60 years and replace him with.....who? Could easily send the club back to the Bailey/Neeld days, are we up for 5 years on the bottom like North?

I completely disagree with the posts that say fans will leave if we play "boring" footy. I believe that if we win games, fans will attend.

I just shake my head when I see threads like this.

Sensible post mate.

Keen for Goody to have another crack in 25.

But, I wouldn't be against an approach to Nathan Buckley

Now look at 2022 - 2024. Bit of selective revisionism.

Why? He’s just a lesser version of Goodwin in every way except he gives long drawn out quotes with big words in the media. If we sack Goody the worst thing we could do was get another Collingwood has been at the club.

The ‘we need to play a different style’ people need to understand we optimised game style based on the strengths of our playing group and you can’t simply adapt it without changing players.

That’s why the list management has been such a big let down.

A fresh preseason at least gives us some options but if you want to play something even remotely resembling Hawthorn then we need (at a minimum):

- highly skilled half backs at full fitness Ie. Bowey and Salem, plus tall backs willing to get in on the counter attack
- 4+ on ballers that can really run
- multiple half forwards that go up and back
- athletic tall forwards that lead and jump at the footy and no passengers in the forward line

At no stage this year did we have the midfield, backline or forward lines capable of high tempo footy.

Sure, win percentage is still 63% and very solid against any other AFL team.

The only arguement you could make against Goody is that we should have won at least 1 more premiership between 21-24 but that's a huge ask for any coach given Chris Scott has an insane coaching record and only has 2 flags in a much longer period of time, and one he basically inherited off Bomber Thompson as well.

That "poll" is ridiculous. Who votes? What do they know? Do they want to help Melbourne, or are they perhaps from other clubs who want to damage us?

I have seen some terrible clickbait but that is a new low.

Agree. Another “Destroy the Dees” clickbait story. Supporters from the clubs… yeah sack him !!!  FFS.

Bucks was a good coach and often, not always, coaches have done better on their second rodeo.

Plus, he won't get a quarter of the $h!t that Goody has had to deal with from the media. In fact I'd suggest the media would back off the club entirely.

During the Trac saga, the name I heard least was Goodwin's. Everything seems to be about the board and executive. You have to be careful when thinking if the coach should go, because from the outside it is always just speculation. You can't know what the issues are for sure, and who's causing them. It really isn't hard to think critically about these issues.

Who would we replace Goodwin with? And will we be calling for the replacement coach's head too, if things go [censored] up? Surely we have learnt this after the Dean Bailey fiasco, with his 'replacement' and the ensuing events. I mean seriously.

It's like when Bolton was sacked at Carlton, and then when Teague won a few games, their [censored] supporters thought he was their saviour. Then the club appointed him long-term on whim, based off a short trend. Look what happened after.

Don't get me wrong, if next year doesn't see improvement then Goodwin should go, because he has been given enough chances. But automatically going after the coach every time something goes wrong, particularly when the issues are evidently deeper than just one person, is overly simplistic and - quite frankly - just so [censored] stupid.

Personally I think it's impossible to sack Simon. The only way I see that as an option is if the players demand it.

With all the other turmoil and the number of over 28 year old players that we have, assuming it's true that they love the coach, we'd almost certainly be cactus for the next 5 years.

The indignity and trauma of sacking Simon would be an almighty blow to the on field leaders, good luck to the next bloke picking up those pieces.

I’d give it one bad year and Bucks will get as much if not more heat. The media turn on everyone and love a tall poppy

I have never been a big fan but saying he should go is crazy. This year we were hit badly with injuries, we lost Gus before the first ball was bounced. IMO that is the major reason we missed finals. We would not have made the GF but injuries ruined our season.

I think it’s

P 99

W 63

L 35

D. 1.

which overall would be about  63/64 %

in other seasons the figures are

2017.  W. 12.  L. 10

2018.  W. 16.  L.  9

2019.  W.  5.   L. 17

2020.  W.   9.  L.  8

TOT  P 86  W  42  L 44

Simon’s career record so far is

Overall total is  P  185

W  105   L  79   D  1

Thsts about   56. 5%

Was Ginnivan there in Bucks time at Pies?

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

  • GAMEDAY: Sydney

It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
