Let's give the best kick and decision maker in the team half a game in the midfield every week so he gets a taste for 2025.   Cya next week.

He is a PERFECT footballer! He stands out like a dogs balls whenever he touches it 🥰

Reminded me of dal Santo and Pendlebury from his very first touch. I just hope he has the heart for the midfield. And I mean that literally.  Midfield is a different beast with the 2 way running so it would be great if he has a glimpse of it in preparation for next year.

Ok, 4 quarters of pressure football from the full squad.

Get the midfield to function so we dont lose the centre bounce 8 times in a row.

DONT play kids, try and win.  We are not out of it yet.

Should we just give Gawn another week off?

Honestly I’d be happy to use JVR and Petty against Tim English and go with either Disco or Jeffo forward.

Max doesn’t need to keep playing with a literal broken leg.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Hunter comes back into the side to play his 200th against the Dogs. Direct replacement for Billings who once again did next to nothing.

We owe nothing to Hunter, and he won’t be with us next year, but I think it’s fair that we get him to 200 before he retires.

Kynan Brown should get a full game with the seniors, forget about his performance yesterday.

Yep bring him in we need some tackling tenacity and enthusiasm around the group.

Tough on Woey

He’s not the worst

Keep him in, needs to gain the experience.

In: Tholstrup, Sparrow.

Add bit more defensive pressure.

Out: Billings, Bowey.

Billings did nothing and Bowey needs a spell, missing 20 metre passes and looks low on confidence.

Turner to bench as Dogs are a tall lineup and either Woewodin or K.Brown as sub to add fresh legs and tackling pressure later in game, this really dropped off as the game wore on last night.

So Bowey is the new whipping guy at demonland. Fair dinkum guys he is a good player and has been injured for a lot of the year. Thaught he played a reasonable game last nite.

Jefferson in Petty down back Rest May

Fullarton or Verral in and Max to fifty per cent game time

2025 starts NOW

I thought so too, and to an extent he us a victom of the high bar he had set himself, but he has def lost a bit of his confidence.

Made some average decisions last night and his kicking, which is one wood when on, was off and has been for a while.

All that said I think it is often under rated how difficult it is coming back from serious contact injuries.

Bowey was terrific in the preseason games and prior to injuring his shoulder in that sickening collision when he put his body on the line.

Like langers after coming back from his broken ribs, bowey hasn't looked the same player since coming back from his shoulder.

We are 2 points out of the 8.

I will be shocked and [censored] off if Hunter gets another game barring not having enough players to field a team. Howes, Brown, Taj and Kolt should all be playing in front of him.

People who think they will be giving up on the season are delusional.  We are half a game out FFS!

Beat the Dogs and we are back in the running

I think this is right, it should be done.

However, I think Windsor should be the one to take a rest.

We need to give Laurie, Woey and AMW some continuity in the seniors.

Hunter for Billings - neither are the future but we're playing enough youth.

Petty played well again, he's had a good month. TMac has had a very good season and Hogan is a very good player but I wouldn't be surprised if Tom's last quarter horrors tipped him over the edge to retirement. One of Petty and Disco will play back next year and one will play forward until Jefferson hopefully establishes himself and they can both play back when May retires.

Knowing that we’re not going to do anything meaningful this year, I wonder if it’d be better for us to not make finals to give ourselves the best chance for 2025? 2021 was built off a full pre-season. I’m not sure if a first or second week finals loss is going to do anything for this group.

Absolutely and emphatically agree with this. Given the likely event that we won't make finals it will be the first time in 3 years since we've had an extended post season break and early return to pre season. Likely to get a pick 6-10 is gold. With numerous retirements and delistings and salary cap space October is very exciting.  Apart from the Freo games and perhaps one or two others we have been competitive in an incredibly difficult season for the Demons. Could have easily defeated Lions, Blues and Giants and been in the top 4. Great comeback last night. Petracca back, Clarry with a full  off season and young players ore advanced I'm excited and optimistic.

I was there Dazz and Jeffo was fantastic in the wet with 17 disposals. Could, should have kicked more goals, but his wet weather contested marking was magnificent and his ground ball gets, tackling and intelligent, intuitive handballs/ tap ons, were brilliant! He simply must play for the rest of the season IMV! Anyone else who was there want to back this observation up??

Not there but watched it all. Jefferson excellent in horrendous conditions for a tall forward.  If they are going to blood him this season no better time than under the roof at Marvel with pristine conditions.  I doubt they will but wish they would. Should he perform in our last 4 AFL games it could shape our off season recruitment thinking.

I too still live in hope that we can make it. I know it’s a long shot but still.  I hope the footy department/ team think likewise.

Failing that, I look forward to our ‘Grand Final in August’ against the Ferals.  We owe them big time. Make sure we put our best side together for that game.

Have you seen our draw? Dogs and Suns away. Port and Pies at home. Tall order and we are no relying on others to some extent. Odds against.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
