We need some new blood both on the ground and inside the coaches box. Some tough calls need to be made or nothing will change.

Chin up young Caleb, there'll be plenty more opportunities to generate a match winner off the back of a burst down the mcg wing. He was genuinely gutted and it's great to see so much passion. Future is bright. We'll be back

Respect the positivity but we won't. This list as it stands is cooked - midfield in particular is threadbare and there is very little in the cupboard. We have some good kids but the gap in our list between 23-29 means we'll have some lean next few years.

Too many NQRs, youngsters and we are at least two quality mids away from winning these.

One of those is of course Tracc.  Rivers might end up being another.  Might need to find one more as well.

JVR went missing for long periods tonight.  A bit clumsy at ground level.

Kozzy bah.  He plays like a million $ one minute then a 10 game rookie the next.

Petty's best game (in his forward role sense) for the year imho but still wasn't quite good enough.  Needed to finish off his strong mark and put the goal away.  It's not on Petty but he kicks that we probably win.

Lever good in the first.  Ok in the second but a fair way off his best in the second half.  Knee an issue or still building?  He just isn't damaging with ball in hand.

Billings & Bowey had a few cameos but still a fair way off the level tonight.

Unfortunately Woey was nowhere near it.  Brown Dog would've been a better option and not in hindsight.

Back on the coaching with this one. Hogan is the premier full forward in the game and we have the premier fullback playing on Jake Riccardi until they made the move late in the last quarter.

Horrid coaching

As usual Badloss totally out of his depth..OUTCOACHED Fluked a flag and we need to look elsewhere IMV

Disappointing night we played pretty well but their run and class linking up across the ground was a bit too good….i don’t think we are that far off being a finals side again though

Ladder doesn’t lie. Weren’t not frauds - we’re just not that good.

We lost one of our best players before the season started, had multiple key players have shocking preseasons, been ravaged by injury, played the kids every game and clearly not got our fitness right.

We cost ourselves. They dominated us for long periods of time. Used it better and were just a class above. We tried hard but they’re simply better.

I thought we played better for majority of the game and deserved the win. It's just was frustrating when there were calls and non calls that cost us goals and prevented us goals, from the poor decisions we would of had a couple goal win IMO. Meh, it's footy I guess.

It was obvious how we cleared out the space … then Tom Green knew it and CLARRY WAS ASLEEP. Clarry not the contested player that he was. Green beat him to the footy on many occasions.

Clarry gave away 2 metres on every stoppage in the last quarter. Green won the clearance, go back ti the centre, rinse and repeat. I don’t care what he did in the first half, he was poor in the last half, no accountability

He has been our saving grace this year, against Hogan in his best year ever, and you want him to retire off 1 bad game?

There’s been more than 1 bad game, last 6 weeks he has been unable to defend, yeah he’s had a few kicks. Not the answer moving forward and time to go past him IMO.

When Disco came on in the last quarter things started to click.

Disco should've been on the ground all night.

ROFFEY, GOODWIN now should be totally under the pump

Giants are a real chance this season . Dangerous.  Our fadeout was poor but comeback extremely admirable against a formidable opponent. Finals not really in the equation now. Good pick coming our way. Hope Jefferson and others get a crack in the remaining rounds.

Agree hole heartedly

3 goals in two quarters then to let them kick 4 unanswered was very poor.

and yo have Disco as sub, huge error of.judgement.

need some new staff to pick the side

and bring on 2025 .  We are Gawn

GWS we’re far better after quarter time

im amazed it was so close

we tried hard but not good enough

It really struck me how we just seem to go along the boundary year after year. Almost to cover up our poor disposal skills.

It was so blatantly obvious tonight the way GWS would use the angles and move through the corridor fast to try and beat our defence getting into position.

I know we've had a tough year. Gus, Oliver, Tracc, Gawn and May all injured.

But geez our game style and skills just don't stack up.

Until we transform these two aspects. We'll remain in mediocrity

Yep that was a shocker.  That and their mid field dominance at CBs early in the last Q probably cost us the match.

The dynasty that got away

The dynasty was over as soon as we lost Jackson.

Can May ever regain any agility or is he done?

If the former he should sit out the season and get right. having a guy that can’t bend over at all is killing us

was telling myself that disco would be good as a sub at half time, he could take a key back/fwd or help with ruck if gawn was sore, but they wasted him

10th on the ladder. Got smacked the week before, cold rainy night. We also haven’t played attractive footy since round 4 2022.

Its alright mate. I understand it’s abit tough for you.

Out Roffey, Goodwin et al, IMV

Goodwin won’t go but we desperately need some new blood in the assistant coaching team. Furthermore, Choco needs to be looked at as well as Tim Lamb.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
