I can confirm we have a potential f/s ruck in about 15 years time, one who can hold a good tune and knows how to do an excellent mash up. I present to you: DJ George Gawn!

I’m not convinced. He looks a lot shorter than his dad.

Can he kick a footy?

Seriously should have gone after Goldstein instead of Grundy.

The 36 year old Goldstein who's in and out of a mediocre Essendon team and who will retire this year?

Yes, but he'd  be very handy now

Thanks. Captain Hindsight.   Did seem a very good option at the time.

Liam Reidy had 19 disposals, 3 marks, 4 tackles and 54 hit outs on the weekend in the WAFL.

I hope he's the one we are looking at as the main back up for Max next year.

Yeah from the limited footage and stats I've seen, Verrall looks a likely type. We still need someone to fill that mid-twenties gap though as a ready-made replacement... not that it's possible to 'replace' the greatest ruckman to ever grace the field.

Going off @DistrACTION Jackson's comment Reidy would be a really solid get IMO. Maybe then they could work on developing other areas of Fullarton's game, potentially finding him a spot as a permanent forward.

Out of contract rucks according to footywire:

Kailin Lane - shown a bit in the lions ruck log jam but did his ACL

Alex Mirkov - hasn't shown much development

Aiden Begg - undersized and injured

Liam Reidy - was more of a forward when drafted but dominating WAFL hit outs at least

Braydon Preuss - I very much doubt it.

Clay Tucker - only young, haven't seen a lot of him, seems to be play forward a fair bit

Hamish Free - lots of concussions and not great VFL form

Tom Campbell - hmmm, I doubt it.

Lachlan McAndrew - huge height, athletic, developing from no idea how to play to something interesting

Tim English - surely too expensive

Reidy or McAndrew would both interest me.

Although if we add a forward who can ruck a bit we might just see if Verrall can improve enough to own the spot.

Eagles at $1M per year if he goes anywhere is my guess

You have to think that if he hasn't signed with the dogs by now he most likely is an eagle next year.

I agree with @Ted Lasso that Byran is a good get if he'll come and play AFL with a view to taking over from Max.

But I'd also target Peter Wright to play second ruck.

At least promising, at this stage.  But then remember how long it took Max to become a regular.

Liam Reidy to debut for Freo this weekend against GWS

luke Darcy is a test so Liam comes in as cover

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
