Petty re-signs for 2 years... dunno if I want to cry...

Where are you seeing this? I hope he has, he may be no good as a fwd but he's a quality key back

Anyone who isn’t thrilled with that (if it’s true), is an absolute fool!

Securing our talls means we can focus on restocking our midfield!

Just please please send him back to the backline.

If Jefferson comes good next year they probably will. Likewise if Tmac retires which I suspect he will.

was on 9 news... Tom Morris announced it.

Did he sign in the rooms or something?

One of the more bizarre pieces of news I’ve seen pop after a bad loss but I’m happy with that, he is still a gun defender and May only has one year left. I don’t see Jed Adams being ready to take over.

Who hates Tom Morris now? Lelele

He’s still a bin diving misogynistic [censored]

I'm glad that we've retained him. An uninterrupted pre-season where he can prepare as a defender will be important.
T-Mac doesn't have many years left and soon enough we'll need another tall backman. Petty is a premiership defender and it's where he plays his best footy. The recruiting priorities should be about restocking our midfield and recruiting for genuine key forward options.

If you’ve missed a lot of the little things Petty has done with positive talk to his team mates, great forward pressure and routinely putting his body on the line then you’re letting your bias cloud your judgment.

There’s a very good footballer - forward or back - in there.

Don’t drop off now.

PREMIERSHIP DEFENDER 👏👏👏👏🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

Play him as a key defender

Not a key forward

He’s a good contested mark.

If true, this is brilliant! By re-signed do we mean extended to '27?

If not true, Tommy can suck a fat one (again)!

Yep.

Two years in addition to next year.

Far out. strange timing

great to have him on board

Melbourne leaked it early because they heard there weren’t enough meltdowns on Demonland after that loss.

  • GAMEDAY: Western Bulldogs

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
