Oliver Trade Rumours

It’s really becoming like the Watts situation. Much loved fan favourite, all the talent in the world, someone you’d love to have a beer with, but just not professional enough.

it’s a huge fall from grace for Clarry as coaching department inclusive of the Roos era we’re saying he was the most professional and competitive person they had ever seen.

I remember thinking we got rolled for the Jack watts Trade, but the player brought in for him Fritsch, we don’t win the flag without him.

I’m sad to see him go as I love our players. But I’m missing the player we was 2 years ago, not the one he is now who can’t even poll 1 brownlow vote in a season.

The situation is incomparable. Clarrys cv speaks for itself, Jack Watts was a lightweight who never achieved anything.

Hey come on now. That one goal on QB was pretty good...

A future first rounder for the best midfielder the club has had in decades. That first rounder will likely be between picks 15-18 too, as Geelong have such a home ground advantage at this point then finals and top four are almost locked in annually.

The idea that we lose Clarry for pick 15-18 next year is insane to me. This feels like we're entering Neeld era territory again somehow just three years after a flag. Only Melbourne could [censored] the bed this badly. I feel horrible, disappointed and defeated.

The dysfunction is worse than Neeld years id say. Im not fussed with the compensation, I just want the Oliver saga to be over.

The only hope for this club is a complete cleanout next offseason, that could bring some hope and positivity.

Next year is absolutely a write off however, but at least Goodwin, Pert and the current board have to endure it and not a first year coach, justice for what they have let happen to the club.

Unless…. It was all part of the plan and Perty’s taking one for the team

Tbh.... I can only see a ship sinking...   the MFC Losertania ...  How it really comes to be floundering , who or what fired across which bow ??   Who's  in the bridge... Who's manning the lifeboats....

We know Who's sitting on a iceberg...

Until the mists clear and ice clears we really can't be sure Who's Arthur, who's  Martha .

That said...  there's a captain that ought to go down with the ship.

There's a whole truck load of malarkey going on at present.

I can't see us coming out either smelling of roses nor winning any bouquets.

Best outcome.....dragging who's left back to the shore and starting over.

Sans a few people ;)

you don't really believe that ... do you?

We are the weirdest club ive ever known. "Get out!...But come and say goodbye to everyone first!" ...Jesus Christ.

Jay Clark can get [censored]. Nothing but a shill for Pies, Cats and Blues.

The trade value Geelong gives and the amount of salary cap they pay are inversely proportional.

Decent draft pick and we pick up substantial salary

Later draft pick and they pay all the salary

I'd probably rather take a trade value hit than a salary cap hit,  but both have long term implications, a good draftee can give 12 years service.

Putting all the emotion of it aside. It's just dumb business. Devalues the asset straight up. Why contact a club without meaningful draft capital or players they are willing to give up. Again just really dumb

I don’t believe they would’ve just floated Oliver out there without considering it might actually happen.

Not saying it was entirely their plan or the best way to do it but I’m not sure there was a good way if they’ve decided it was time to do it.

Surprised the confidential details of Clarry’s meeting with the club haven’t leaked yet. Wonder what the hold up is?

Shocked we didn't have Tom Morris taking minutes.

He’s also our preferred leak journo.

The 'List Management Committee' wtf is that? Who want's to bet it's run by Pert and includes me, myself and I?

It would be unfair to pick favourites!

Cap space is much more important.

Damn Peatling went with Adelaide

Would have made all this a bit easier to swallow...

Will not be renewing membership while Pert is CEO.

i'm not expecting a really good trade with jeelong but i am expecting a reasonably good trade

if we let him go for peanuts or a bad deal then that will really do me in

if jeelong really want to get him they have to make a decent offer and we have to play hardball. we must salvage something out of this ... or it should be no deal

It should be.... but think we might now find ourselves to far down a track to walk back.

Seems like only yesterday we stuffed up....and here we are ( again )

I’m not down on the details of how player payments work, but why is cap space useful when we have no one on comparable money to trade in..?

Is the idea that we could then renegotiate other contacts so they’re front-ended and use the money another year??

Just tell him that the drinks are free, and he wouldn't miss it for the world.

Looking forward to trading Oliver and coming into round 1 with a potential starting midfield of Sparrow, Parfitt and Rivers 🔥🔥🔥

Caps space is great when you are either on the verge of finals or a finals strong team, if you are plop is good for overpaying turnips who keep you near the bottom.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
