Morris says Melbourne are saying one thing publicly (he's ours) and something else privately.

Gleeson is essentially saying the same thing when he reports sources saying Pert has been asking about for takers.

There is a uniformity about these reports that I think is disturbing and if it is Pert at the root of it then he can buzz off. Footy Department is not his territory.

Those criticisms of Pert from Collingwood are starting to resonate. Happy for him to go now and bring back Josh Mahoney from the Bombers to be the CEO footy people wanted originally.

Not sure the people wanted him, but the same Josh Mahoney that “moved on” from the Bombers and is now doing a “stellar” job in tandem with Laura Kane at the AFL?

Looks like Pert is making his bed much like Roffey did.

Ironic

Trac takes out Roffey and now Oliver takes out Pert (metaphorically speaking)

Who is next you wonder

@picket fence takes out and replaces @binman on the pod

What possible  reason could there be for Pert to be floating players on the trade table behind the clubs back? When has another CEO behaved in such a way?

You don’t know that nor do I!

So settle down and  wait for the reviews.

I doubt Pert would be running some shadow operation that is unknown to Goodwin, Green, Taylor, Lamb and Richardson. If he is the point man for shopping Oliver around, I think they would know about it.

Correct. I'm not a Pert fan, but it's delusional to think that he is acting independently of the Football Department.

The only reason we would be shopping Oliver around is that his off field issues are similar to that of Jesse Hogan.

But any club that wants him needs to sell the farm to get him, which is appropriate given that the club is Geelong.

San De Konning wasn't best 23 in their finals team, so he would be merely steak knives to any deal. Can't see what they have to offer that would satisfy us.

Thanks for replying and passing that on. I take you at your word you've heard all this from reputable people and good faith. I find it hard to believe myself, but of course, nothing is impossible in terms of work setups these days apparently. It would be a strange turn for a club so determined to bring everything under one roof.

I actually don't think that the "working from home" thing is too much of an issue BUT clearly he's been missing or not enough "hands on deck" ([censored] some people off) when he needed to be here whilst the club has been barraged over the past 12 months.

Meanwhile, seems to have been started again by Pert, sitting on his deckchair at his home in Noosa.

Not sure the article says it was started by Pert, simply that Pert's been ringing around. For whatever reason. But perhaps because a trade at the level of Oliver goes way above a list manager so better to go directly to the other CEO's?

Of course, I'm just guessing, just like everybody else here.

Sadly I think Oliver is worth little in a trade. His contract is an albatross. I would prefer we keep the cap space free than take a better return in picks.

Knowing about it and agreeing with it are not the same thing.
One wonders why the CEO is shopping a player around when we have a whole footy department who is responsible for trades.
Perhaps it’s because Pert is going against the wishes of the FD, which if that’s the case, you may as well offload Goody, Richo and Lamb too, as their positions are untenable.

I'm not across the review. Am I right in suggesting that Gary Pert is, in effect, partially reviewing himself?

Fair enough Billy, but I won't be leaving my club because some players do, no matter who they are and including Clarry, my favourite player.

I also think the club may know more about our players, than we do from the outside.

What makes you think that?

The way the Oliver & Petracca situations amongst other things have been handled, l don’t think they have a clue about the players

Other than a couple of good years here & there on field we’ve been a extremely poorly run club off field

Top that off with an average coach, boring game plan & woeful home crowds the club is falling apart three years after a premiership.

Seems to me the players are disgruntled & the hierarchy have now idea how to fix it.

If two million dollars a year players want to leave imagine how the rest of the playing list feels.

It would be really unusual that Pert is doing that and not Tim Lamb though given TL is our list manager. It's also odd that this is going on when the reviews aren't finished yet, it feels a little to me like CO is being scapegoated as the source of all of our problems and it's not difficult to see they're a lot deeper than any one player, or even any of the players.

Maybe it's due to the Football Department being under review. And it wouldn't surprise me, given our track record in trades over the past 3 years, that Pert has no confidence in the decision making of Lamb, Richo and Goodwin.

It could be a precursor to Richo and Lamb getting the flick based on the review.

A review that’s being undertaken by Pert.
Give me a break. If they don’t trust these guys to make decisions, then sack them and bring experienced people in their place.

I have zero confidence in the ability of a CEO to make list management decisions. It’s why he’s not, wait for it, a list manager! 🙄

I just want a CEO who lives in the same state as the team we follow, bonus if he/she lives in Melbourne and I want someone who is willing to do the job not take shortcuts.

PS - Membership was always going to increase as a result of the premiership so that's not a tick for him.

Does pert live in Noosa ? Is that a fact ?

There can't be a FD position, there has to be a agreed club position. If Pert as CEO has executed actions not in compliance with the agreed club position then his position would be untenable. But that sounds unlikely. Thinking floating Oliver for trade discretely would not hit the media remains naive.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
