We would have to be nuts to trade a pick 5 plus change for a player who is 29 years old next year.

    The history is simple. Our drafting (touch wood) in the last six years has been excellent. Our trading has not been excellent. Dude is 29 and can kick. 

    Pick 5 is sacrosanct.

    He turned 27 four months ago, not sure why everyone thinks he's 29.

    He won't be 29 until 2026.

    Why do journalists encourage trades? It seems a bit wrong for mine.

    I think using the word journalist to describe most of these attention seeking, self serving,  rumour mongering and  opinionated  media clowns is wrong

    My thoughts on this are that the media, and AFL HQ would like an EPL style setup with a few Vic and interstate superclubs playing in front of 150,000 and other clubs being like Luton Town.

    Carlton’s pick 11 plus good steak knives (maybe even Carlton’s future first for some later picks back) has to be the favourite. 

    Houston’s a quality player but as I’ve said all along if they can land Perryman especially as a free agent or even Cumming they should have faith in Farrell, Logan Evans, Sinn, Burgoyne etc doing the job at half back.

    The need to upgrade their wing, midfield depth and key talls.

    I hope our club watched Jase Burgoyne do his thing last night, he’s the exact opposite of what we look for and he stood up in a final ahead of much more fancied and credentialed teammates.

    That doesn't seem like a good commercial result for the AFL.

    We (one of the worst skilled clubs in the AFL) would be nuts to overlook a 2023 and 2024 All Australian and confirmed top 5 best kicker in the league.

    I am astounded by the lack of disappointment around here in falling out of the race for the services of an absolute marquee player.

    Just pragmatic acceptance... you can't get everyone for a whole range of valid reasons.. No point bitching and moaning on Demonland about the myriad of hypotheticals as to why it did not occur, and then to draw allusions from that, about what it means about the MFC post hoc.

    But what I am gleaning is, that until we land an acceptable player* - MFC is a rabble.

    *as deemed by the vocal supporter base.

    Don’t disagree in the slightest what you’re saying. We’ll move on and draft whatever Taylor deems best or try to chase another established star.

    However, in any other previous year I feel as though we’d have 30 pages bemoaning the fact that we fell out of the race in our chase for a genuine A Grader.

    Why, for this year, are most posters apathetic towards this particular genuine star? He would’ve transformed our back half use of the football.

    If I'd written an in principle agreement prior to the pick being inside the top 10, I'd be closer, correct?

    Mainly the fact they wanted 2 first rounders and we need to add quality mids before TAS come in

    Saints apparently no longer in the race for Houston. Does anyone know whether this has prompted a move to remove their president and board and sack the coach?

    Because the asking price is our first rounder (plus more), which is pick 5 in a strong draft laden with midfielders, which we also need.

    The gap between what we get from Houston (28 years old) and what we get from pick 5 (18 years old) isn’t big enough to warrant the level of outrage you seem to demand of us.

    I hope they burn draft and salary cap capital on him. He's the last piece they need with Saad, Docherty and Newman in the team already.

      Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

    • REPORT: North Melbourne

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
