I think Houston to the Saints makes less sense than in does to us.  We remain a chance while the likes of May, Viney and Gawn are in the team (1-2 years) and having someone of Houston's quality will make a big difference particularly in ball movement.  But it would be a short term play with what we would have to give up.

The saints have some good young quality coming through.  But I think by the time they really hit their straps Houston won't be at the same level and they will have given up 1-2 high draft picks in the process.  They are better placed taking their two picks and adding to what they've been accumulating the last 3 or so years

Just as I don't believe that Houston moves the needle for us, I feel the same about him at the Saints. They already have Sinclair and Wanganeen-Milera who can play the same role at the same level as Houston. They've recruited a couple of guns in the past 2 drafts in Phillipou and Wilson. They need to continue down that path.

Houston may want more game time as a mid, but he doesn't have a track record as one to justify giving up 2 1st round picks for him.

They want Houston for the exact same reason we did - to play in the midfield...

Also, he has played a significant chunk of footy in the midfield. Just not this year.

For whatever reason, l still feel we are a chance ahead of others of getting him if he leaves Port

Just don't know he is worth the asking price ... my experience is also that players that develop late also decline more quickly

Which players have developed late and declined more quickly? Interesting theory

That's not their problem at all, they have Newman, Saad and now Docherty back.  Carlton's biggest deficiency is a dynamic small forward.  Owies is a decent player but they need a gun like Kossie, Bobby Hill, Papley, Charlie Cameron, Stengle.  Martin, Durdin, Fantasia, Motlop, Fogarty are just not up to it.

I reckon their system isn't up to it.

He’ll 100% end up at Carlton. Don’t know what they have to give but they always get their man. Except for Petracca (for now).

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
