He's a 198cm imposing lad who plays as a genuine power forward and can pinch hit in the ruck. He plays with physicality and reminds me a little of Tom Hawkins from the bits of vision I've seen of him.

This is amazing !! Thanks for the info, is there anywhere we can view a list of upcoming academy listed prospects?

Everyone has an academy, clubs don't put time and effort into it.  Just money that they have to.

Get rid of the Zones, still have the academy's, all clubs put the same $$ and staff into them and all players are free game.

Should purely be about getting these kids into the AFL and nothing else.

Completely disagree.

Aside from the obvious frustration about Mac, I gotta say it’s really good to hear from those seeing the tangible benefits of these talent pathways.

Its obviously a difficult story to tell from the clubs perspective, as they are trying to give the public the information they want about AFL players and plans. So when you don’t hear almost anything about them it’s hard to know if the plan is working as intended. It’s nice to hear it is.

The AFL should never have changed the rules in the first place. They should be doing everything they can to encourage these pathways.

Increasing access to NGA picks in combination with the proposed reduction to 'points' for picks after the 2nd or 3rd round is a sensible change. It forces clubs to give up real currency to acquire these picks while still getting a sensible discount and priority preference.

To be fair, if we had of been allowed to match Mac we would've missed out on a young kid with the initials JVR. So worked out ok in my books.

The 2024 NGA list hasn't been released as of yet.

AFL change the goal posts again, say it aint so?

AFL needs to be clear re NGA. Tarion Ah-mu needs to be eligible. We have no Polynesian players in the AFL and it’s a key diversity segment being missed by the AFL.

Such is the NGA MADNESS… Tom Steinfort (son of former cats player Carl) is NGA eligible to the @GeelongCats because he was born in Finland & has a Finnish mum !!

I thought the NGAs were only for indigenous players or a player with at least one parent born in Africa/Asia? I didn't realise it was anywhere overseas?

Last year Saints had Lennox Hofmann in their NGA. Cats bid on him (pick 66) and strangely Saints didn’t match it. He was a dinkum young Aussie who played footy from Beaumaris junior under 8s all the way through his junior years to Sandy Dragons. Born in Switzerland … but is as Aussie as vegemite on toast !! AFL need to get real !!

STK Academy's, Lennox Hofmann

Born in Switzerland and raised in Australia, Lennox Hofmann is keen to make a name for himself as he progresses through Moorabbin Airport STK Academy. Hofmann was born in Switzerland, and moved to Australia at six months of age

Depends which club could benefit

Given its an absolute free reign on some of these NGA prospects, does any know why Tarion Ah-mu doesn't qualify for it? Have they actually given a solid reason as silly as it maybe?

It's something to do with him being of Samoan heritage. I don't think it's on the AFL NGA list of countries ([censored] knows why). Eg. Andy Moniz-Wakefield is from SE Asia and qualifies, but Tarion doesn't because he's Asian Pacific or something. You'd think the AFL would be all over potential NGAs from Rugby League heartlands. Ah-mu is in our Academy too.

You may have hit on the reason he doesn't qualify.

But Switzerland and Finland do???

Can’t we just ask a player to ‘identify’ as being from another country, if it means access via the NGA?

I thought it was more to do with the language spoken by the parents more than what country they're from. Arbitrary but there you go.

Of course he is.

I think the AFL rule deals with which club might benefit.

I’m not sure if this is a joke or not.

Under the current system, NGA talents have largely been deemed eligible based on their Indigenous background or Asian or African descent.

How are Switzerland and Finland somehow defined as eligible??

Pacific Island talent part of possible NGA changes - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1278009

Also in the above article, no doubt they'll change the rules to I clude Pacific islands but we'll still get screwed because the changes won't come into effect until after Ah-Mu is draft eligible.

That rings a bell now that I think of it - It's something like if the country's first language is English, it's not an eligible country. I think Samoa has English listed as one of its two (?) languages, although having been there, it's not the first language spoken - Samoan is - fancy that!

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
