The 'we should have won more cups because we had the best list' argument looks to me like self-flagellation.

OK, if a club has a list 10 times better than any other club, they should be mortified that they only won one cup.  But no club has ever been in that position.

Even if a club has  a genius coach and an arguably better list than any other club, so many things have to go right to win multiple times that all you can be is disappointed if you don't.  Rending garments in grief serves no purpose.  Self-flagellation is ridiculous.

Goody and the club really aren't getting enough credit for getting us into the frame for another finals run.

We've had to deal with:

- Constant Herald Sun articles questioning our culture and all the other stuff

- Legal issues with the board and he who shall not be named

- Angus Brayshaw our heart and sole leader retiring on the eve of the season

- Joel Smith being unavailable for reasons we all know

- Our best player in Trac coping a season ending injury and internal injury at that which adds extra stress I'm sure

- Playing 10 players under 23 in our best 23 and still winning games

I was about to dispute this but then I read that Taylor Swift has an IQ of 160.

Goodwin said in his press conference this week that this would be a completely different side to the one that played in Alice.

Goody is a genius at spinning absolute dribble.

He said they haven't seen the best of us.

I guess they'll have to wait for season 2025.

Goodwin said we shouldn’t focus on what happened in Alice Springs. He should have !!! Clearance - spread- run - goal. Rinse and repeat as the commentators said. Goodwins showing arrogance right now!!!!

A coach can’t be positive in the lead up to a game?

You really want him to say - we don’t have a ruck, we don’t have more than 1 semi fit midfielder? Freo should get on top at stoppages and then we’ll be needing a miracle?

Demons' lost the contested ball battle 141-105.

Goodwin. "That's been one of the strongest things in our game for the last five weeks … so it wasn't just the hitouts. It was a combination of all that within our game, and we'll own it, we’ll lean into it. And we'll come back better next week."

blah blah. Corporate Speak. “Lean into it”.  Will we “pivot” to “align to our strategic imperatives “.  Goodwin speak is becoming NAUSEOUS!!

It's really not 'norm'...these are list management decisions.

Goody has some input but the decision is not his alone.

How would you like Goody to speak at his presser after a big loss..?

Angry Alan Rickman GIF

Longmuir comments in the presser … “ teams have been bringing numbers up to try and nullify our stoppage work because it's a real strength of our game, but we've got to maintain a mindset to be decisive and get on the front foot."

Didn’t see any evidence that our coach or coaches implemented this block the stoppage strategy.  (?!?!)

I think he's improved the way he talks publicly quite a bit. But I have zero interest in hearing corporate cliches.

"Lean into it" - Sheryl Sandberg was passe a decade ago.

I think a couple of others on Demonland have mentioned that's exactly what we did and is why they scored so freely "out the back".

They played a lot like we do at our best, have one out the back and the others push forward and back their bulls to win it and move it fwd, which is why they were flowing forward with such pace, they won the hard ball and got it out.

I think they just beat us at everything, was not a good display from the players.

Its easy to throw stones after a perceived error in judgement. Gawndy was not working and Brodie wanted to leave and his life is better for it.

I am more questionable on the recruitment of Fullarton and why he is not at the level to compete as an AFL ruckman.

Do you really believe that, if a coach says "please Mr List Manager, I need a genuine no 2 ruckman to back up my ageing, injury prone lead ruck", he is going to be ignored?

He is absolutely responsable for the imbalance of the list and our obsession with recruiting undersized utility types.

Correct. and because of the Grundy debacle it'll be difficult for us to get a ruckman from another club with ambitions of being a number 1 anytime soon coz Max is still going strong.

If we look at our best 5 players coming into this season we could probably say Max, Trac, Clary, Gus and May.

3 of those are out, 1 at half power and the other going ok.

We get the results we should pretty much expect.

We don't have the star power on the ground to win against top teams.

No coach is going to fix that, genius or not.

So many assumptions.

We recruited a younger up-and-coming ruckman who they believed would be a good backup for Max while developing at VFL level along with Verrell. Turns out neither is ready yet for AFL level. [censored] happens...

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
