9 marks, 9 kicks, 2 goals 1 on return

opened up our forward line, and minimised their ability to rebound

super to have him back out there

The stats say 9 kicks, 0 HB, 9 marks, 2 goals 1 behind, 2 goal assists and 7 score involvements.

I was pretty sure I saw him getting at least one kick that wasn't from a mark, ie in general play, but it seems that I am wrong.

His left leg right bullet i50 pass in front of the members was elite.

Can’t recall who he hit uncontested at full forward but it was great.

His kicking forward really is amazing and when he’s playing well I think he makes us a couple goal better team with his vision.

Always been a fan of his but was very surprised about him coming straight in but he exceeded my expectations.

Be fascinating how the recovery goes as his fitness will still be a long way back

According to training reports he has been in full running training for many weeks, and will have been 'body building' in the gym for months.   Really starting a new season in mid season.  Looking forward to this refreshment of the team.

Who wouldn’t? Not sure what gun goal kickers we have sitting on the shelf waiting for a game. The shelf compromises of NQR forwards like Laurie, Billings and Schache.

you left out McAdam and Fullarton.  Interesting that nearly all of these were recruited as NQRs from other clubs.

His ability to wheel onto the left or right and deliver a low quick dart inside 50 is such a weapon. Something no other player on our list can do. Hopefully got another couple years in the tank

I thought he played really well. I was really pleased to see some of his forward craft on display today. Still think it wouldn’t have hurt giving him 1 hit out at Casey.

Personally in your place, given what you’d said, I’d have responded with…

”I thought he played really well. I was wrong.”

Go Demons

Great to see the snake winding his way across the G and bamboozling the oppo using both sides.

Go figure!  A natural forward who's competent on both sides with a stack of forward gile and skills to boot.  I'll take that option any day.

Aside from Tracc having a day out playing mostly forward, i'd say Mr Melky's the best forward on our list.

He will also be passing on some juicey advice to the young forwards atound him, which is pretty much everyone as he's the oldest on the list

It was great to have him back. He is still our smartest and most selfless forward - he is glue.

He really should have a spot on the list next year. Especially as we will get younger on most lines.

One day someone will explain to me how come team-mates fly for same mark?

In other words, how come team-mates don't talk - is there not enough time to say yours?

Well, you get moments like when  McVee left a ball that he thought Lever was going to mark. Lever didn't get near it and the WCE player to essentially an uncontested mark 15m out from goal.

For a bloke who hasn't played since last year and after a huge injury at his age....to step back in ...he played a very good game.

Good make a huge difference to a struggling fwd line and our finals chances.

With Melksham back we can expect to see a bit more space in the 50 on dry days like this. Hopefully a few goals too!

I wanted to question Goody and the selection committee prior to the game with Melk being selected, but Melk bought is some agro up forward and he had high impact on the game.

that I get Jnr as it's poor comms under pressure but it is rare ... it's the pack marks I don't get where two Dees go up V three oppositon.

That low slinging pass to Kozzie was absolutely special.  Who else in the entire AFL could envisage and execute that?

.. and his body will only have half a season of battering in 2024, so he will be relatively fresh.

That pass was on his left foot. Up there with one of the best kicks I've seen all year.

Corrected. Phenomenal especially for someone who has been out for so long.  Vision plus accuracy and trajectory.

Thank you for posting this. And no, I’m not crying, I’ve just got something in my eye.

After that match in Sydney last year I happened to go through airport security at the same time as the boys. I saw Melks up ahead on crutches and the look on his face was heartbreaking. I was walking alongside Clarrie. I started tearing up and Clarrie said, “Yeah this is bad, he’s shattered, he’s absolutely [censored] shattered.” That seems like a lifetime ago now. So, so happy for him, he deserves everything he gets. Loveya Jakey ❤️💙

Just glad to see him back, hopefully he can snag a few and annoy his former team this weekend.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
