This Casey v Bullants game is a bit if a watershed game for me. I really believe we have to move on from Schache, McAdam, Hunter, Billings etc... and give air time to our young recruits, many of whom have been very good today. Jefferson, Brown, Fullarton, Howes etc... None of them are standouts, but they all have great effort and intensity, can stick to a game plan, and most of all - they can kick.

Good umpiring. Praise where it’s due. Handful of young Adam’s jumper.

Agree with most of that but still think McAdam might have something to offer if he stays fit.

Good to get on the winners list.

Melbourne best were Laurie, Brown, Howes with Sestan having a great last quarter and Jefferson having impressive moments in a tough game for tall forwards. McAdam had some ok patches and hit the scoreboard but looked frustrated and ill disciplined for a lot of the day.

Didn't notice Hunter in the second half much, injured?

So good to hear Jefferson continues to come along. Another full pre season under his belt and I reckon we will see a bit of him in the seniors next year.
Not totally against giving him a taste at the end of the year to really motivate him, if his form continues.

The fact he finishes with 3 goals probably puts a shine on him that he deserves, but in so many contests his physicality is sadly lacking. So many of the other younger players, even the non-Dees listed ones, show more grunt and effort than him. I will give him kudos for getting space on the outside creating options for goals.

Did I hear right... Casey to play in Brisbane next week?

Casey to play the Lions in Brisbane next Saturday

What a competition this is

Super hands Jeffo & the conversion.

Should be straight in for Fritta or Petty against the Eagles this week

This is a joke, right? Fritta is still our leading goalkicker, I believe, and Petty took 5 contested marks.....

fullarton was much better as a ruckman today

definitely assisted by playing there continuously due to verrall's concussion

sestan impressive second half, bill laurie consistently mid, while pup brown and howes are starting to get that 'too good for vfl' look about them - not quite there but getting there

Captain Mitch White a consistently good performer rain, hail or shine. Roan Steele, Ned Moodie and Tom Freeman were also good contributors from the Casey boys.

I know it's wet, but to be 10 points up with 10 more scoring shots is criminal. Surely Choco moves on at the end of the year

We were sold the story that Chocco's strength was getting the goal (and general) kicking straightened out.

We have seen very little evidence the past coulee of years that this is working.

Yes, I was a fan of him coming in to help with kicking and goal kicking skills but the outcome of his time is an epic fail. I am totally blind to the MFC internal narrative, but Choco and Stafford must be up for question and review.

Jeffo, Brown, Howes, hopefully Sestan in addition to the guys in the team in Kolt, Windsor, AMW, Woey, Disco should all be expecting to the play senior footy next year which is exciting. Plenty of work needed from all those guys but they’ve got tools to work with.

McAdam had a nightmare preseason and Fullarton a nasty hammy right when match simulation kicked in. Both flawed but if they have big summers they do have things to offer

Sorry have I missed something.  Where is Ben Brown?

Ben Brown was sat in the grandstand near me...along with a stack of senior players and Goody.

Yes I was right near him too. Great to see so many senior players there on an awful rainy day.

We have so many embarrassing supporters that should go follow Essendon.

Never seen the name Nuocleous before but like it so much l say let’s take him early in the next draft

Big difference between training and a game, unfortunately you find players go back into old habits rather quickly, instead of kicking over the mark they run in an arc for extra distance, I'm more concerned with short kicks and kicks over distance as we have to many players that kick way to high instead of lower harder passes.

I know people are keen to write Laurie off, but he is as hard as a cats head.. some incredible tough efforts in the wet today. would love to see him have a look at Chandlers spot.

I'm a fan. I think he needs an extended run of 3-4 games to feel that he belongs.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
