Maybe... but they do have Bolton and Rioli signed up so he wouldn't have expected them to seek trades.

He's also from Geraldton (ie country WA), not going anywhere.

He’s not, he’s a Hillarys (Northern Coastal suburbs)boy West Perth zone played junior footy at Whitfords and Sorrento Duncraig. His dad was one of my PE teachers way back in the 80s

Yze when he was appointed Richmond's coach (left) compared to how he feels right now.

I hear a lot coming out of the club usually and the one thing I haven't is the name Jake Waterman.

The one name we should be throwing everything we can at.

Tells me 1 out of 2 things:
Either another off season of disappointing recruitment where we don't identify how badly we need a key forward
Or
We really want to keep this one close to our chest.

If this guy was Victorian he'd be the hottest talked about player. We should we throwing everything we have at him if we were serious. I can't believe we're not and I can't believe we'd identify any other position of need other than key forward

Whilst a hardened KPF would be great, I've come to the view that we need to add more elite talent to the midfield and even behind the ball.

We have a number of needs. Midfield, half backs, a KPF and a genuine back up or transition plan for Max.

I'd argue that the lowest of these priorities is a KPF. Would be nice, but we only have so much TPP and trade capital.

I'm with @Binmans PA on this.

As much as a player like Waterman would be a good addition, IMO he's not "the one name we should be throwing everything we can at".

I'd even argue that a lesser forward who can properly relief ruck is more important than Waterman.

Improving our midfield and finding a forward/ruck will IMO help solve the problems that Waterman would also solve.

My step mum is from Geraldton, so my old man seems to think that every WA footballer comes from Geraldton.

Lesson here, don't trust your old man, BPA.

I think everyone knew they were going to fall off a cliff with Tarranto and Hopper recruited for another flag or bust. Don't think he was banking on several senior players linked to moves though. With a number of seniors in their twighlight, this might be the start of a lot of pain for Tigers. I think Yze is up to it, though, and they'll stick by him as they rebuild.

Bolton and Graham are going West

Yze will have a wooden spoon and his best player gone in his first season

No way any coach could survive this situation

My left field want to try and lure across is Balta from Richmond but I don't like the idea of taking a player from Yze.

Balta is just what we need in my opinion. He is an upgrade on Tomlinson and can play both ends of the ground, (yes I know, not always successfully) but the thing that he has is a big body. If he is given a role in a good side I think he would be very valuable and is probably gettable if we persuade him to come across.

Petty would have a field day at training

If they come from East Fremantle 50% chance they are Gero or Great Northern Footy League boys

LDU is exactly what we need. Wins his own ball, kicks well on both feet and grits his teeth and explodes from the contest.

I would give up a lot for him but I’m pretty sure he’s said recently that he wants to stay.

This might change his mind

I'll go with this again after tonight.

"It's the midfield, stupid".

Rivers is not a midfielder, he doesn't have the awareness. He's hugely damaging as a half back, he should stay there. I'd be looking to get McVee into the midfield, but we need more.

We need two gun kids that can plug and play in the midfield IMO.

Rivers has shown more than enough to suggest he'll make it as a midfielder. Particularly if we give him a pre-season to work on it, rather than thrusting him in there mid-year without warning.

Agree otherwise though.

yes, it's the midfield but no, rivers can 100% play that role going forward

we're currently missing one of the best midfielders in the competition, and it really, really shows, plus of course gus, who was one of our best midfield rotations, missing all year

if houston comes then he and rivers will, ultimately, wax and wane like hodge and lewis from half-back to mid you'd think

i'd kill for an ldu or equivalent like that style of midfielder to come into our first rotation, but there's really no one of that ilk available this season

Agree we really need to strengthen the midfield, disagree about Rivers in the midfield. I would definitely be playing him there.

Mac Andrew playing forward tonight. Has kicked 3 so far and is doing some rucks.

More like it. We definitely need to look to the future. We won a flag. And now need to come back down to earth. Fantastic someone has made the call on Rivers into the midfield. Sam Mitchell tagged him off of the backline last year. Rivers was our top 3 last year, he’ll be our best this year. McVee and Windsor have both been top 5 players for us this year. I like your Mac Andrews call. Those are the type of players we need to chase.

Think Rivers definitely has a role to play in the middle.
I do agree that we need to bring in other midfield options and I want us to draft at least one quality mid this year. Problem is that it’s fairly rare that a draftee has a big impact on the middle in his first or second year. Perhaps we can draft one that can play back flanker to fill in for Rivers and McVee.  Xavier Lindsay perhaps. If we could somehow get him and Langford or Lalor I’d be stoked

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
