I may be in the minority but I'd take Waterman in a heartbeat if we could get him.

Anyone know how effective he is when the ball is continuously kicked over his head when he's on the lead or otherwise  indiscriminately bombed into the forward line. If he's good at that then pay whatever it takes. Otherwise. Nah.

Waterman and Houston would be huge acquisitions IMO. The right ones too. Doesn’t completely solve the midfield issue or address the Ruck dilemma, however it will allow Petty to swing back as TMac likely to retire and put Rivers permanently into the midfield.

Waterman’s manager is doing the right thing. He’s put out the bait. Dees have probably bitten. Waterman is looking to cash in now on his good form.  It’s up to the Eagles to stump up the cash to keep him. Presumably he’ll stay but it’s all like poker with some bluff and counter bluff moves.

The real move for the eagles is to keep him for another year and sell him off as a free agent for another top 5 pick.

But with his injury issues he’s probably not going to happy sitting back and playing out the year for 400k

For the money and length of contract it would take I’d prefer we chased others. You’re right though, someone’s paying overs for him

I don’t think that money and contract is getting near anyone better, in fact it’s probably unlikely to get anyone at all because key forwards any better than C graders so rarely become available.

We’ve been looking for most of the last 5 years and we landed broken down Ben Brown and nothing else.

I don’t think we can hold out for better, we can only evaluate if the trade and contract are worth it and if he plays to this years level he will be.

Sure but……there’s several buts that make this a risky deal. I’d be chasing high draft picks before putting big deals in front of NQR’s but that’s me.

This is not a sexy option, but hear me out… would we be interested in Jed Bews from the Cats purely as a lock down small defender? Would then allow us to use Bowey and McVee in more attacking roles. Unrestricted free agent I believe.

Miles Bergman interested in a move to Victoria according to the midweek tackle, it’s a no brainer to chase him instead of Houston, six years younger and wouldn’t cost two first round picks

Miles Bergman is a star. Was really disappointed we couldn’t get him in his draft year.  Would definitely get a 5-6 year contract offer ready.

Jesus the term "star" gets banded fairly loosely around here..

A good up and coming young player but a star? Nah.. Kozzie Pickett, Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver are stars.

This is his current stats playing as a half back/wingman.

Bergman has elite disposal efficiency.  Elite marks.  Elite distance covered.  Elite interceptions. Elite rebounder.  Other stats aren’t indicative of a tall midsized defender.

Disappointed he was not available at later pick.  He went earlier than most had expected but Bergman improved during the draft year to end up in 1st round.  Happy with Jackson and Kozzzy of course as well as Riv. Disappointing we didn’t get Anderson.  Disappointed we didn’t get Serong. You cannot have all the cars in the showroom. It was a strong year which has been shown out.

going to throw a left field idea here....

all the talk is Waterman as a big body KFP.  If we look at it, we would seek such a move for a big fwd target for a few more years as JVR, Jeffo etc further develop.

as an alternative, and not dissimilar (but probably more reliable), what about Sam Day from GC who is off contract and we offer him 3 years.  we will probably only get 2 out of him but big body, can mark, can kick and not getting run on GC over King, and youth.

maximise our window

Probably more reliable.

He's 32 next month and IIRC injury prone.

I hear a lot coming out of the club usually and the one thing I haven't is the name Jake Waterman.

The one name we should be throwing everything we can at.

Tells me 1 out of 2 things:
Either another off season of disappointing recruitment where we don't identify how badly we need a key forward
Or
We really want to keep this one close to our chest.

If this guy was Victorian he'd be the hottest talked about player. We should we throwing everything we have at him if we were serious. I can't believe we're not and I can't believe we'd identify any other position of need other than key forward

Back up Ruck perhaps? Can’t go into another season with all our hopes relying on a 33 year old Max staying fit and healthy.

I've always liked the saying "it's the midfield, stupid".

Whilst a hardened KPF would be great, I've come to the view that we need to add more elite talent to the midfield and even behind the ball.

We have a number of needs. Midfield, half backs, a KPF and a genuine back up or transition plan for Max.

I'd argue that the lowest of these priorities is a KPF. Would be nice, but we only have so much TPP and trade capital.

Bolton and Graham are going West

Yze will have a wooden spoon and his best player gone in his first season

No way any coach could survive this situation

Baker and Rioli may follow too

They could be one of the worst sides ever if everyone rumoured to leave does

Can we lure Yze back home to the Dees? Would be a dream scenario to have him as Goodwin's successor.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
