Do we look at the the SANFL/VFL fort mature Rucks?

  • Harry Boyd - Norwood - 26 years/198cm/108kg - Best Ruck in the SANFL last 3 seasons

trading oliver AND a first round pick OUT just for cap space when we have brayshaws and grundys is legitimately one of the dumbest things ive ever heard.

I will eat my shoe if Clarry goes anywhere.

He doesn't want to leave, and Melbourne won't trade him while he continues to behave off the field.

We dont need more VFL players struggling to break into an AFL squad from -frankly - lesser clubs. We have plenty of NQR's already sitting in the VFL.

The exception to that is a backup ruck. Ladhams isn't great but probably better than whatever else we have. Would he come to Melbourne? Possibly - he is 3rd in line at Sydney as Mclean takes the 2nd ruck duties.

I agree. I think its also possible that this was a planted rumour to just give Clarry and his management more of a hard-nose reminder of the reality. They can be all cuddly warm in person - because that is what helps him from a Mental Health perspective - but in the cold light of day, we will not tolerate his prior indiscretions

Don't mind the Ladhams and Kearne option personally.

Agree and have seen both play well and both do dumb things - Ladhams with getting suspended and Keane's sporadic backline howlers. I'm sure Keane would be sorted by May and Lever and Ladhams would be our second in line at this point.

Is Ladhams the bloke that knocked out Taj during a VFL game last year?

We don't have Grundy's. Got away with that one as it is between the Pies and Brodie.

The extra cap space includes that which was allocated to Gus and Grundy.

We also have the difference between what was being paid to JJ and Harmes and that being paid to Duke and Kolt.

Probably about $1.5m

The idea that we would trade a first round pick just to get his salary off the books is ludicrous. Even when that regularly happens innthe NHL, it's generally a third round pick which equates to pick 100.

Imagine trading Oliver and not having a first round pick to bring in to replace him

These [censored] just make garbage up on the run.

Kane Cornes has made a career on saying controversial things and taking zero accountability when he's made to look silly as a result of them, i rarely take any notice of any of his commentary like this.

It would be ridiculous for us to pay someone to take Oliver off our hands and he would be the first to crucify us if we did this and then Oliver bounced back to his best in 2025.

The only way we trade Oliver is if he has a significant backslide in the off field stuff in my opinion, and all indications are he's making progress in that area.

That is hands down the most ridiculous thing I have heard in about 10 years. "Melbourne should hand another club Clayton Oliver and their first round pick". What on earth is Kane on? I actually agree with a lot of what he says, but that's totally off this planet.

Kane is never wrong

We will have a fair bit of cap space at the end of this season.

Between Brown and Hunter who will likely finish up probably around $700/800k. TMc and Tomlinson if thet stay will be on lighter contracts saving a Min $300k between them. If say Timonlinson leaves add another say $200/$300k.

Compensation for the Brayshaw contract is 90% for next year. $750k x 90%.

So we will have a few $ up our sleeve. We may have to carry a little over for 2026.

We'll be putting together a bigger contract for Petty. And then we have the emergence of our young stars like McVee, Windsor and JVR.

It'll be interesting to see if we can get a few guys to accept unders so we can target a FA or two.

I think Petty is only worth a meaningful contract from us as a key defender, Tmacs form is a major curve ball for Harry.

Add J Smith to the out of contract players. Probably circa $300k savings.

Not sure whether McVee and AMW have already extended their contracts? They can expect a raise.

Melksham may get another year with a raise from current rookie money.

I would not want to be in charge of doing the payments spreadsheet. It would do my head in.

It might be smart to get a larger portion of Brayshaw’s contract off the books next year if we have the space to do so. Otherwise it will continue to be a factor for years to come as the AFL pays less and less.
Gus maybe open to renegotiating if he gets a lumps some next year.

zerohanger is trash

ladhams might be a delisted train-on option, stringer is no chance and they can't even spell 'marke' keane's name correctly, plus he's keen on going to the filth according to most other thources

My understanding is that Tomlinson is on around $450-$500k? Also Joel Smith will be gone. Perhaps $350-$400k. Josh Schache $250-$300k.

Question: does Harry Boyd have any forward craft at all?  We are unlikely to run two rucks every week.

Yes and no.  TMc surely has only one more year in him at most, despite his Lazarus like year.

Thanks for posting. Entertaining read. If we recruit Stringer that would just about be it for me.
Wade Derkson. Never heard of him, sounds more like a porn star than a footballer.

Actually from Darwin. Had a late adolescent growth spurt like Patrick Cripps. Good on him for getting on an AFL list. I wouldn't cross em.

Clarry ain't going anywhere. Just because he's not playing at AA level he needs to be booted out? He doesn't need to be to be playing his role for the team. What a load of 💩 Who wouldn't be playing their absolute best after his offfield battles and not a full preseason?

Did Buddy get the ar$e when he sat out the finals in 2015 because of his health? Nope. They stuck by him as any club should do. Buddy came back and had one of his best seasons in 2016.

And I believe the same will happen with Clarry. Media pests need to buzz off and move from Clarry, he ain't going anywhere.

Agree 100% re Stringer.  Wade Derkson… who knows. Stringer seems to fit the profile you paint.

Said this guy 3 years ago, watched him first hand a lot.  Very good player and good when he goes forward too!

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
