People think the effort was there?

we played with intense desire for about 7-10 minutes in the 3rd. did you feel it? when the crowd got involved.

aside from that we tried a bit. but no where near level needed

Yep I was at the game and know the period you where taking about. I thought there is the intensity we are capable of and we won alot of contested hard balls and gang tackled during that period. As you say lasted a few minutes

Blind Freddy  can see the only fed we have is JVR  exceot for Goodwin,! Our mids get smashed each week, yet no adjustments! Oliver gets games  but ok to miss preseasin great culture move

Goodwin has cooked the team needs to go

We'll have a good firdt round draft pick then.

That means zilch if the same crew running the game.

We are lost.

Can you imagine players in 21 constantly gifted games.

We are not strong enough both physically and mentally.

In the past four games we’ve been beaten by the wooden spooners, pumped by nearly 100 points and embarrassed on the big stage by a premiership fielding half their list.

Genuine question, where to from here?

I'm not writing Clarry off. He is doing what he can off 2 weeks of preseason. He should never have played round 0, and probably should have had a good 4-6 weeks during the season to get himself fit. But the FD that itself when Gus was ruled out. If he gets a full preseason next year, and stay on the rails, he'll be ok.

I'm more concerned about some of our older players. TMac has been good but will have zero interest in going again if we are [censored]. May looks like the end is near, and so does Viney. Those three out, plus Petty at the end of the year, and really no-one to replace them. Swallow hasn't come on, and Tholstrup is a while away, if he makes it.

We are in a big hole and without our own 2nd rounder this year. It's going to be hard to rebuild quickly.

Clarrie should have played about 10 games at Casey at the start of the year, Big mistake

That's because he was drafted as and played majority of his footy as a forward. Expecting Petty and Turner to produce at AFL level consistently as forwards when they are key backs is dumb. Can't remember any key backs turning themselves into good forwards. Neitz a big exception but he did play all his junior and early AFL career as a forward.Tmac deserves a mention for his one and a half good seasons as a forward.Petty and Turner just don't lead up to the ball or find space it's never going to work execute against depleted Richmond sides apparently

I was filthy from the moment Trac went smiling and open armed to Maynard before the first bounce.

Couple of points I’d like to raise;

- Oliver is not close to the player he has been but he is still in the right spot a lot of the time. If he can grind out the rest of the year and through the preseason for ‘25, I think he’ll come good. Looks like he did too much upper body weights when he was rehabbing the hamstring.

- Viney would want to be carrying something significant. He is chasing tail all the time and for someone that’s relying on physicality, he’s not even getting close to opponents to exert any.

- There were plenty of moments today where I thought players openly showed they were defeated mentally. Just flat out gave up. Very notable examples came from Max, the leader of the club.

- Collingwood have 11 players out, yet they have the belief that wins can still come if everyone does their job and contributes. We are the polar opposite, we have a full squad and kick 6.15.

- Goodwin is done, the group is done

Team stats very even. Occasional lack of intensity but so did the Pies. Gameplan looks to be basically OK but no run and carry or angle-kicks to break open lines and angles. Similar shots on goal.

Our in close to outside handballing is atrocious. Our kicking skills inside F50 is worse.

this sort of analysis is really ticking me off..

Where are our shots coming from?

How much space do we get?

Who are we giving the ball to?

We are playing like Adelaide atm. Just absolutely lost with no hunger or structure.

I know you're trying to find positives but we just lost by 40 points against a team missing like 8 players.

This is almost the end of the line for me and the MFC/AFL. My motivation and interest are at an all time low. I just googled how to cancel my membership FFS! That's how I'm feeling right now. Hearing 10s of thousands of supporters cheering Maynard just doesn't sit well with me. Watching our blokes put in the most disgraceful efforts in four games now (Bris, WCE, Freo, Pies), not to mention the two straight sets exits of 22 and 23. It's broken me. How quickly have we gone from dominating force to irrelevant? It truly is mind boggling.

We really are a mess.

Seems like we dug a hole for ourselves pre-season with the adjustments to the game plan that do not appear to be working. We also persist in playing players out of their position and players get chances even though they are woefully out of form.

Bad training, bad selections, bad coaching.... all of that equals bad results. Looking back I do not see one game that we have played well.

Recent games have been the worst run of games we have had in the last 5 years or so. There are no excuses, only reasons for the way we play. See above.

There had better be some clear thinking and straight talking over the bye.

Disgraceful display today.

This was really evident today - no physicality at all. It seemed as if it was purposeful? Why have we lost this from our game?

Even my wife mentioned this, and she just follows the footy because of me.

She has to mute the TV when we play against this mob, that tells me everything I need to know about that club.

And my missus is one of the most compassionate people I know, she can always see the better side of anyone...except the Collingwood mob.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
