I didn't mind them in that 2007-2011 window but then they just never went away. Got an arrogant coach, cheating captain who ducked for his entire career, and, well, I don't know what it is about Dangerfield either, but I can't stand him! Was hoping they wouldn't get that flag in 2022, but they did (well deserved too)... now they can hopefully bugger off... finally! They will probably go on a 15 game winning streak now. Don’t celebrate too soon. They have plenty of good young players including 2 good young bigs in Conway and Neale and unlimited farms to entice even more good players. 1 1 Quote
Jaded No More 68,976 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 Well Scott was full of praise for Gold Coast. Suddenly they’re one of the best sides in the competition according to him 🙄 2 Quote

I’m not sure Scott really knows who the good teams are this year as they have hardly played any of them. 5 1 Quote

Diamond_Jim 12,773 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 Very hard round from the what is the best for MFC perspective. A Carlton and GWS win just about puts the top 6-8 teams within one game of each other given wins to Pies and Port Quote

BDA 23,048 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 6-0 against fellow contenders is a fantastic record. Sydney deserving flag favourites at this stage 7 1 Quote

Diamond_Jim 12,773 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 A long and well researched article on the decreasing number of indigenous players at AFL level. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/falling-through-the-cracks-afl-zones-private-school-scholarships-in-spotlight-to-stop-drop-in-indigenous-numbers-20240514-p5jdlg.html An obvious starting point according to veteran AFL recruiters, Sydney’s Kinnear Beatson and Geelong’s Stephen Wells, is to understand the scale of the problem. “The AFL firstly has to try to find out why players are not playing in the numbers they were before, before they try to come up with answers,” Wells said. There are plenty of theories, with the list as long as Lewis Jetta’s bouncing run in the 2012 grand final. They include the depth of the overall talent pool, the effect of COVID-19 cutbacks, the lack of ownership and accountability for Indigenous talent pathways, and the impossible demands on poorly paid talent identification officials in state league clubs. 1 Quote

He’s a sore sore loser. That’s a fact. What I noted in his last three losing press conferences was that he never mentioned the opposition team by name, not even once! (In contrast the opposition coaches all made ‘positive’ mentions of Geelong) The only exception to this being that he named one opposition player (Horne Francis). I oh so hope that GWS get the job done next weekend. Imagine, four losses in a row. Beautiful 🤞 6 1 Quote

Also, 4 of those 5 wins were at the SCG. The Swans are a great team but they have an awfully soft draw. They only play Essendon and the Giants as the only top 6 teams away for the remainder of the season. They are unbelievably lucky to not play Melb, Geelong or Carlton in Victoria this season and got the Pies at the right time. 1 Quote
Clintosaurus 7,953 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 [censored] Carlton. Swans by 50 please. Who will the umps favour? They love both teams. Quote

Their missing players were Dangerfield, Hawkins, Duncan, Stanley, Cameron and De Koning. The first five are over 30, and there has to be a strong argument that the first four won’t play beyond this season. Without them, they were 11 goals behind a mid-table side (who themselves had a couple of outs). They’ll no doubt be throwing cash to whichever midfielder is available this year because their midfield is no good. This. They haven't got a midfielder under 30 who likes like becoming A grade, let alone a superstar. Long may it last. Quote
Gawndy the Great 9,011 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 (edited) Blues winning isn’t a bad thing. They have a hard month of footy so will drop a couple more anyway. At least by winning they keep Swans within reach. Edited May 17, 2024 by Gawndy the Great Quote
