A free agent

We are a number of clubs that have interest in Isaac Cumming according to Cal Twomey.

It's understood Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Fremantle and Melbourne are all keen on Cumming, who is one of the hottest unrestricted free agents still available on the market.

At 25 fills a gap in our list.

I think he helps us to replace what we lose at half back with Rivers going into the midfield. seems a very sensible target for us.

Yeah a great target from a needs point of view. Outside player who's got sharp kicking skills.

Would be best 22 straight away.

So who would Cumming or Huston push out of the team both are mid size defenders or would they play another roll. I wouldn’t have thought this is an area of the ground we are lacking talent in.

I know you can only get what’s available but I feel like we still need to be focusing on the talls in key backs, forwards and ruck, May Tmac and Gawn all over 30 with no obvious replacements coming up and only 1 proven key fwd playing at AFL level in JVR

Rivers into the midfield sacrifices some run and dash off half back. Neither Bowey nor Salem provide the speed, dare or penetrating kicking of Rivers. May and McDonald are likely to slow down even more next year, so surrounding them with some pace may prove to be important.

Completely agree that we need to go after key backs but unfortunately that may need to be through the draft. There's not a lot of high-end KPD talent though.

Perhaps they'd take Howes' role in the back half, but I'd like to see him play wing and then we can push Windsor into the midfield. Probably not next year but in 2-3 years.

And Bowey's current role. I really think we should look at Bowey as a mid.

Not worried about his size anymore for the midfield role?

Not really. He could get a bit stronger over the ball, but another pre season enables this.

Hmmmm. Third soft tissue injury this year.

excellent, let's get him cheaper and 'fix' him

As a RSA not sure we would get him too cheap. Would you pay him more than Rivers or McVee? We would probably have to pay him more to get him to sign. If he continues to have soft tissue issues then it could be problematic.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
