From where we sat the forward line wasn’t an issue. They created space and separation, the guys with the ball constantly took the wrong option …especially in the first half.

I thought Rivers would’ve been a deserved winner of the medal also. He was super all night.

Our defence is unbelievable, we should all marvel and appreciate what we have right now because after these blokes we might not see a backline like this ever again.

Players come in and out of form at stages.  It's a long season.

But to have this many out of form, especially through the middle.  We simply have to get two out of the three amigos back to their best to have any chance against the Cats.

Then there's Petty.  He simply must take a spell at Casey to try and gain some match fitness and form.

At this stage i'd also look to bring Sestan in for Sparrow.  He probably isn't quite ready for a four quarter match but could come in as the sub with Laurie brought in to the interchange.

Sparrow built like the proverbial... sometimes looks like he has got the goods but goes missing more often than not.

Interesting Kozzie saying they worked their “@%$3” off at training.

Fatigue looked like a feature of the game. Looking forward to seeing them run ON TOP of the grass.

Clearly something is broken.

the top end

Disco is a much-needed shot in the arm.

Lever & May, our “bickering couple”*, were immense.

Howes, like McVee last year, is coming along really well.

Max just generally plays a great game of footy. I don’t know how much he has left in him, but I miss him already.

The midrange

- Langdon, Pickett, Chandler, JVR, Frisch, Trac, Billings, Windsor, Woewodin and McVee all showed us the full spectrum of their potential. More lighter colours though, please.

the low end

- One of the poorest games I’ve seen from Sparrow. I back him, but he better be down on himself after that one.

- Can’t believe I’m saying this, but joining Tom down here is ANB, Viney and Oliver. But I know these guys will hate being down here, so I expect to see some frenetic redemption. Oliver clearly has the bigger hurdles though. I swear to god he’s carrying his hand in a strange manner.

- Rivers, Petty & JVR, both MIA.

And a shout-out to Laurie, for bagging a couple of cheeky ones. Hard to gauge his overall form after such a short (but effective) stint.

I could be wrong about all of this because tonight’s been a bit of a tribute to Laphroig whiskey.

*the only bit of commentary I’ve chuckled at amongst a sea of brain-dead “quips”. The commentary was utterly disgraceful at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. BT and Bradshaw just waffling on one of their tangents-from-Aldi, and completely ignoring the play. They should be pulled up by the network for such slack amateurism.

What a poor assessment. Were you actually at the game?

I can't see him being dropped deever but boy he was allover the shop tonight and caught with ball so often.

He's had some good games and some not so good so far.  Can't seem to string a few good games together.

He's the fourth string mid.  Not many alternatives but needs to find some consistency.

Who goes out for McAdam?

Does Woe keep his spot?   Maybe a yes til Bowey returns?

A good scoreboard, considering the number of passengers we had: Petty, Chandler, JVR, Sparrow.

Trac was fumbly. Clarrie and Viney were below their best. Fortunately Disco, Maxy, Rick and Maysie were on song.

Looking forward to seeing when all (or most) of our players come on song…. next week when we play Geelong would be good.🤞

could end up our 2nd highest goal kicker of all time

most underrated player in the comp

He was just Clayton. He’s a bit of a left of centre thinker, and he’s honest, almost to a fault.

He’s been handling himself extremely well, and I think he should be really proud of himself. Just because people are different doesn’t mean we should question everything they say and do. He’s not a robot, and that’s why he’s so valuable.

I thought he just looked a bit buggered. Nothing else.

You could say the same about a lot of the team. We really seem a little flat after Adelaide.

I found his interview quite good and it was great to see him out there talking.

Didn't really see his finger but the panel remarked how sore it looked and he admitted in the interview, he probably shouldn't have played against the lions.

Playing at that level and that role with a busted hand would wear you down.

I also think Petty hasn’t quite looked like he has full confidence in his body since he has come back. The not invested narrative is emotional rubbish

Agreed. Plus, he was so thrilled for Disco and Laurie at their goals. He was one of the most enthusiastic team members each time when the camera showed the celebrations for goal!

Oliver is Dusty like but worse for how little he likes talking on camera, obviously stresses him massively. I also though Pickett's cheap shot got him flush on his short rib.

In my increasingly-distant youth, I played tennis at a competitive level. I’m not saying I was hot property, but I could beat my Mum right?

No.

She had this way of getting the game on her own terms. My aggressive forehands would be met by loping, loving, lollipop returns with the consistency of a factory worker at Apple. Conditioned to the cut-throat playing style of a bunch of 14 year-olds trying to make the MacDonald’s squad, I was at sea against this unorthodox display of brilliance-disguised-as-ineptitude from my Mum, and I would slam every white-hot double-handed backhand into the net until I handed over victory, and succumbed to a condescending post-match sandwich.

It’s possible I’m drawing some kind of analogy about how certain teams can drag you down to their level, which I’m hoping was the case tonight.

But it’s also possible I was just a [censored] tennis player who couldn’t beat his Mum.

Not how I saw it…

Good by him to say he would do the interview.

The ribs comment was just trying to get Pickett (?) off for punch / open hand.

Having met Clayton a few times… he is always uncomfortable. Which surprised me that he was happy to be the “face” for Melbourne tonight. Not sure he would have done that a year ago.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final.
