leave it to deever 17,618 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 I'm not condoning what Kozzie has done. It's a week for me. But the amount of noise in the media about him is crazy. Where were all these pundits now crying for Kozzies head when Gus was knocked out of his career? 9 Quote

Wodjathefirst 2,671 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Here are my thoughts on how it should go. If Maynard concussed and finished a player’s career and got let off…. then Kossie’s light hit on a player deserves a warning and maybe a fine…..had he missed, well then that is clearly one week maybe even two. I find it best not to think too deeply at times. Quote

Soligo was not concussed. Soligo played on immediately. Come on. Fine. $3750 downgraded to $2500 with an early guilty plea. 1 hour ago, Roger Mellie said: I'm tipping this because that's the outcome I want! Correction. I just checked the 2024 AFL Tribunal info brochure. This will be Kozzie's 3rd appearance at the tribunal in the last 2 years. The best outcome possible with a 3rd early guilty plea to "Careless, Low impact, High Contact" is a fine of $6250. Lets hope that is the case... Edited April 4, 2024 by Lou C. Fur Quote
Wodjathefirst 2,671 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 We should give up a high draft pick to try and secure either Carlton’s or Collingwood’s lawyer. 1 3 Quote
In Harmes Way 7,869 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 According to the MRO guidelines, I'd assess this as Rough Conduct per new tackle/smother rules; grading Careless -> Low Impact -> High contact which constitutes a fine according to their rules. 2 Quote

Red But Mostly Blue 4,632 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 My gut says Kozzy is likely to cop a week. Not the worst action, and pre-Maynard probably would not have caused much of a stir. But because of Maynard we are in a different space. But wouldn't it be a cruel twist of fate if he gets a week purely because of the rule change that was introduced following the Maynard hit - for which he got no punishment? But Kozzy gets a week? And Soligo played on? 2 Quote

Paying over that sort of cash might make him think twice about it in the future. missing games doesn’t seem to work. He had a late bump late in the game to that could have cost us a shot on goal as well. 1 Quote

roy11 4,076 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Obviously the optics of it not great, but overall (not this specific instance) still find it funny you can punch a bloke in the stomach off the ball and get a lesser punishment than a clumsy football action. 3 Quote
Jibroni 5,057 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 (edited) Love Kossie and his aggression, but he needs to learn the risk (fine lines) of jumping into someone with a raised elbow comes with a consequence. Edited April 4, 2024 by Jibroni 1 Quote

No comment about that obvious missed free, Rivers being shoved in the back, maxy getting shoved in the back, any number of dropping the ball we weren't paid, or the stupid insufficient attempt free against koz. And no comment about Walker blatantly staging for a over the shoulder free. If we had lost that game, it would have been be hard to argue the umpires were not a major reason why. Just re-watched the highlights and paid particular attention to that Rivers push. It was one of the more blatant pushes I've seen! They did not show it once last night in a replay so had to watch the highlights to see it! 3 1 Quote

It was light impact. It won't matter. I’m not sure Kozzy needed to make impact, he may have modified his game but once the attempt to get the footy didn’t come off was there any need for the contact. As one who played in the same manner whilst you can modify your game it’s still in you and to me it looks like there was a brief moment of I’m going to make contact and then a realisation of what may occur and then the arm is pulled back in. Sounds ridiculous be able to think all that through as it happens really quickly but that’s my take and it really doesn’t look great the side on view behind Kozzy of the impact Dont believe it has anything to do with him not being a Pie Reckon he gets a week although if he argues that he pulled his arm in when realising contact was inevitable to protect the opponent he could get it down to a fine 1 Quote

For a billion dollar industry operating the highest profile sport in the country, the standard of adjudication of the rules of the game is just plain ****ty. As to what should be done about that ? I have NFI ! IMHO I'd like to see them paid as professionals and make it a respectable career path for those who love the game but aren't fantastic at playing it. Reward them well as professionals. And drop them on poor performances just as professional players get dropped. As professionals, there should be more scrutiny and comments allowed by the coaches and captains as well. The talent pool seems very shallow right now. They need to grow the talent pool and... Take the grey areas out of the game. Hands in the back being allowed is a classic. And surely 3 of them is enough to officiate a game. I dunno, the AFL is just not investing in this critical area of the game from what I can see. It's easy to disregard when we win, but we shouldn't disregard it and we should be able to question the performance and the decisions made. The crows could have scraped home. If anyone watches the replay, just watch the arms wrapped around Max at rucks all night. It must drive him bonkers Edited April 5, 2024 by Brownie 2 Quote

Fat Tony 5,337 Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 I am still not sure what players are meant to do in this instance. Pickett jumped pretty much straight up in response to the handball. His action to tuck his elbow in is required to protect vital bodily organs. Should he leave himself open and cop three broken ribs like Steven May. I don't see it as a careless act at all. 5 1 Quote
seventyfour 1,248 Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 Can't defend Kozzy for this at all. Anyone making excuses has their MFC glasses on. He raised his elbow and was clearly trying to make Soligo feel it. It was a dumb choice, he will get weeks, and he deserves weeks. In his time off he need to do some work on the mental side of his game. Quote
