AFL manufactured result

Every year there's an AFL favoured team, in 21 it was us, last year clearly the Pies

Blues this year

Will be interesting to see who gets the rub when they play GWS or GCS

In the last 50 years, provide one instance when the VFL/AFL favored us?

In the end, bad decisions usually even out over the course of a season.

Try telling that to an Adelaide fan last year. One poor umpire decision cost them a spot in the finals

Yes, yes, someone will say they shouldn't have left the finals spot up to one kick. Nevertheless that goal umpire knocked them out of finals contention

He's an honest plodder is JJ. I remember someone on here predicted he was the next Pendleberry (or someone similar). I almost choked on my Cornies that morning.

Yes it was a strange decision by JJ to leave and choose Sydney.  Swans have plenty of mids and also added Adams.  JJ is likely to be squeezed out again!!! I’m surprised he didn’t pick somewhere like the Crows or Hawks.

I’m not sure of the rule but IMO the dissent free kick should’ve taken place in the centre square.

I think it depends on when it was said, and how far back the ball was to the middle. I think there's this weird mid point where a free after a goal places the ball where they are on the field (or in the centre if it's team's defensive area), and then conversely where if a free kick is given it is out of the middle.

Because I think it happened in the immediate aftermath of the goal it meant it gets taken where it happened.

I've probably explained it poorly.

You don't think the bye before '21 GF helped Maysie?

Or that we were well established in WA during lockdown, whereas Bulldogs came from SA into isolation before the granny?

Also Cotterill was allowed to play on from a free and goal when Freo players stopped and then with a few minutes to go and Dockers up, they got a free, played on to the wing and ready to go in and score and umpire brought it back. Carlton then got dodgy decision and win it.

Game turning decision.

I counted 5 consecutive game turning decisions in that period...miss one, maybe. Two, possible. But to miss 5 consecutively when the game was on the line...totally disgraceful.

Ummm what?

The pre grand final bye had nothing to do with May’s hamstring. It was in place long before we even made the grand final. It was there to enable the game to be played in WA according to their strict quarantine Covid rules.

As for the Dogs, they didn’t finish top 4 so didn’t get to pick where they wanted to play their “home” finals. They made the grand final the long way, by needing to play an away prelim against a side that finished above them.

I am really not sure how any of that was the AFL helping us. It would have been the same if Geelong, Port or Brisbane made the grand final instead.

They were the away team for the Prelim so not much could be done there.

Pick 2 Father Son

Are you talking about James Brayshaw (JB) and Andrew Brayshaw?

They are not father and son

Edit, just realised I misunderstood. My bad

had to duck out so missed the end of the Froe Carlton game. I've just watched the last 5 mins.

the touch would have been difficult for the ump to pick up.

Jackson tapped a ball straight to the Carlton player to set up their go-ahead goal. One of the dumbest taps you will ever see.

Carlton are kissed on the [censored] this year. God help us all if they win a flag. I'll have to move overseas for a couple of months if it happens.

Won't be once they put a chip in the ball for AFL games

Potential to become a pandora's box

It’s always horrible seeing Carlton win, but this one, that way, was just sickening.

Due to the severity of that hammy injury I'm not sure the extra week made that much difference to his recovery anyway.

Quite entertaining to watch the live ladder ATM, with Geelong and Melbourne separated by .1% and constantly swapping ladder positions.

Geelong has an extremely soft fixture this year. Will be found out come finals time.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
