I thought Kozzie was incredibly damaging for us and disruptive to the Doggies today.

He didn't get a lot of it, but everytime he got near the ball, he impacted the play - almost always in our favor.

Do we look to get him more time in the midfield, or is this robbing Peter to pay...someone else.

The forward line looked MUCH better today with Chandler, ANB, BBB, JVR, Fritta and whoever was resting.

Is this something we can / should do more of?

It’s no secret how damaging of player he is. Love kozzie in the middle. Love him anywhere to be fair.

Yes, increased midfield time for Kossie is great, but he's our best small forward. Kinda robbing Peter to pay Paul, especially watching BBB and others create multiple crumbling opportunities today

Roughly 20% - 30% mid field shared with Tracc in mid / forward roles?

Not sure how much time he spent there today (felt like about 15%? ish) but he was very effective and the mix felt closer to being something close to about right.

Goody would be mad not to continue down this path imho.

If we get the likes of Billings (maybe not so much a small crumbing forward but just the delivery coming inside and work rate around the arc), Chandler & then Moniz pressuring hard for a spot i reckon we can afford to loose Kozzy for reasonable minutes (without going overboard... say up to 25%-30%) successfully from here.

In some ways it makes it harder for the oppo to try and match up both forward and mid as well, adding another issue for them to try and sort.  He's a slippery customer in both positions so all the better for us and more headaches for them imv!

Did a quick google to confirm his age... he's still only 22.

Plus just found out he shares a birthday with me, so that adds some absolute legend points :P

If Chandler, Billings and ANB can remain dangerous Koz and Trac can share mid/fwd rotations

You look at Kozzies stats and you wonder if he was any good.

They're not outstanding in terms of 11 disposals.

But he was one of our best in many ways. He applies relentless pressure with his running and chasing and tackling ( five).

And a couple of goals didn't hurt.

One of our hardest working players.

Probably a fifty fifty split in the fwd/middle at most.

Depending on the day, I lean to having him fwd more than the middle.

This is a really good point, I was surprised at how low his stats looked in the game as it didn't talk to his influence.  Even the 1%s where he disrupted the other teams ability to move the ball or take possession.  Really impressive stuff and allowed us to take back momentum specifically when they were getting a wriggle on in the 3rd.

Great problem to have!

Cheers mate.

Love your name.

Needs more midfield time

Had 3 touches until halfway through 3rd when he was moved into the middle

Damaging player for us

Totally a hunch, but I felt last year his midfield minutes were held back because of his defensive positioning around stoppages, and too many of that type. Currently I do wonder if we feel fragile in that space without Gus, with Viney playing a more defensive role at stoppages this week. Kozzie is maturing and this with it, but I just have that feeling this is a limiter to extended minutes and not getting caught out by oppos working him out. short bursts to catch them off guard and whatnot.

Tl;dr he's learning, and getting there after development last year. is a weapon.

Does anyone think about why he's not in the midfield more, don't you think Goodwin and co would have done it more often and longer, because he hasn't got the tank he's a burst player built for speed plus his thought process isn't that brilliant when he has to think it through he rushes his disposal.

Now in a couple of years and age he might get there but for now just use his strengths, just get him to stop trying to take mark of the century every time and crumb and create havoc.

He played 90% time on ground

He has the tank, it’s about where he is most valuable, which given our lack of forward pressure and scoring options- it’s forward.
We also have a lot of mids who couldn’t replace his pressure forward of centre.

Forward line nowhere near as dynamic and defenders for opposition not as accountable without him up forward. We have absolute weapons in the midfield already.

Please don't confuse staying on the ground with a midfield role big difference do you seriously think he could run as hard and with a majority of the time in the midfield like Oliver  and Viney.

There is no confusion on my end

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
