We were going to draft him.

Geelong traded up by a spot.

Restricted out of contract.

Don't know our cap sito, but if we have space, throw the cheque book at him.

IF WE HAVE SPACE!

We could sign LeBron James to a super max extension this off season I reckon.

Apparently Holmes cracked it being left out of their grand final side a couple years ago

He won't be a free agent, we'll have to trade for him.

Do clubs really trade fair value

We got nowhere approaching LJ's worth and if Petty goes we might get a high second round.

Don't know much about Holmes... what is he worth (both pick and salary)

The answer would be a resounding no based on the recent Grundy trade.

We received a couple of mediocre picks in exchange for making a top 8 rival considerably stronger.

Its a part of doing business. When you lose one you get unders, when one chooses to come your way you do better. If you work free agency to your advantage (in and out) you'll end up in front.

“Nowhere approaching LJ’s worth”?

You don’t think two first round picks was ”approaching” it?

No

when given the picks were both expected to be around 14. Luck made the second year pick higher

He was a pick 3 21 year old with proven high level skills. His $1M salary put him in the top 20-40 salary wise in the league

Not saying we could have done better but we got nowhere near his future worth

Jefferson in 2022 for example shows that pick 14/15 doesn't equal Jackson

Just offer him the chance to not have to listen to Chris Scott ever again..

Should get it done

Fox footy's new mid week show suggesting the cats are going to throw everything at getting Oliver...

'Everything' = hobby farm (in his parents name) overlooking the water on Bellarine Peninsula

Been thinking this a long time after it was highly public Geelong usurped us.. pace is big plus and would suit our mids given he’s more outside overall but can win it inside as well..

This.

We paid nowhere near Grundy's market value to get him to us. The fact we completely @#$%^& it up is a different issue. We also picked up BBB for a song and got Langers for a set of steak knives.

Rumours of discontent?

Haha not yet. But when he's stuck in a forward pocket in round 10 there might be...!

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
