I've noticed more and more fans from different clubs booing goal kickers. I don't think it's something we do as fans. Really does my head in. Why would you do it unless they had form? I think it's very unAustralian  but I must be wrong.

As a rule, we (cheer squad) don’t boo opposition players. It’s beneath us. At the back of our bay fans might boo, but definitely up the front, we don’t. BUT… something tells me an exception will be made come the KB match.

We’re widely regarded by the AFL and other cheer squads as a disciplined, respectful cheer squad, but we are also human. Nuff sed.

I'm fully of the opinion that Maynard learned nothing from the Brayshaw incident, apart from him getting away with it means he can continue to do it again and again, because he's now of the opinion that he's untouchable.  

He not only hit Toby Green across the face on the weekend, he pinned him to the ground and face gauged him.  And the commentators were laughing it off, saying "ooh, look, the two number 4s are at it again! No love lost between these two! Hahahaha!"  Had me just about swallowing my own vomit. 

And look at when Murphy was concussed in the Grand Final, look who collided with him pushing him into the path of McCarthy.  None other than Maynard.  He doesn't even have any regard for duty of care for his own teammates.  If Murphy prematurely retires because of that (which still could be on the cards), there's two careers Maynard has ended. 

I hate him.

The spoil-punch to the face of an opponent, and the pinned face-gouging of Green?

Maybe we should start a thread where people can just add to a directory. No other posts, just a catalogue of times Maynard has done things which would be 'looked at' by the MRO if, say, a Melbourne player or any Indigneous player did them.

So in both cases I don’t think there is much that MFC is liable for.

Once Gus medically retired due to concussion the afl will know of that advice and force Gus to retire. If the afl knowingly allowed Gus to play on under these circumstances their liability would have been enormous.

It still is substantial as Gus suffered a football act eventually unpunished.

Right now it’s unclear if AFL has forced Brayshaws retirement or whether it was taken voluntarily. We may not ever know for legal reasons.

i was just covering both angles from a salary cap perspective and nothing more.

Can't wait for KB, that's the only time I will watch Collingwood. Except if we play them again during the finals.

Booing really is pretty dumb.

One of the things I loved most about footy when I was a kid (apart from playing our beautiful game) was standing near the licenced area at suburban football and listen to a good sledging. Some blokes were just fantastic at it as players were lining up for goal etc.

However, I agree 100 percent that KB game should be the exception. Sometimes you just gotta make some noise.

I don't think Brainhard would understand if you sledged him.

The banter in the outer at the old suburban VFL grounds in the 70s and 80s was almost worth the price of admittance alone.  There were always plenty of very funny comments being yelled out, but not with malice or spite.

He has literally been forced to retire. This isn’t like a bung knee that you can have 100 surgeries on using different techniques, or a player deciding his body isn’t up to it. He has been medically told he cannot play AFL.

Yep, the "crowd activation" all came from some very funny buggers having a few cans on the hill.

I’m in your camp on this, head trauma is different to other injuries, but with some time to consider it I can see why the AFL are taking their time and treading carefully here - they don’t want to create a scenario where clubs and players can start using the words ‘medical retirement’ to trigger a full and quick payment to a player outside of the cap.

It wasn't the AFL's specialist who said it, though.  Gus took it upon himself to have his own team of neurologists assess him.  It was them that detected the change in Gus' brain, not the AFL specialists.  Those same AFL specialists have cleared Murphy to play, but I honestly don't think he's in a good way.

I had long hair back then in under 17s got mary a lot by oppo parents didnt worry me until one oppo parent reached over the fence and grabed my hair.Captain of the firsts was watching walked up and broke his nose ,thats how you get even

This is a really relevant point with today's climate.  Back in the 70s and 80s we didn't have social media.  As a media teacher I do love social media but have a healthy amount of disdain for it as well, simply because for some it's a licence to act like jerks to complete strangers.  The veil of anonymity social media provides, particularly on Twitter (I refuse to call it X) which has become nothing but a cesspit of vile, toxic behaviours and people, who say stuff to others they wouldn't dare say to people face to face.  I have had a handful of Collingwood supporters that have pretty much trolled me since the Maynard hit on Brayshaw, and in general, the behaviour of Collingwood fans on that forum has done nothing to change my opinion of the filth they are.

KB is a Collingwood home game.  I can't go but my daughter tried to by tickets on the day they were released and very few were available - the only options were $90 each.  There'll be 80,000 Collingwood fans there - good luck booing Maynard.
