Wrong. It was just a one game ban. He will play round 1 (miss round 0)

Seriously that was a giant error and we will never know the result. I am surprised you are defending Goody when clearly one of the biggest errors in his coaching in the Fibsls was made in not using Schache from halfway into the third quarter.
It’s like playing Green or Marsh and not bowling them.

I am not defending Goody, I am just stating what he did, in answer to a poster suggesting Schache is training very well and could be in our plans.

Goodies MOST COSTLY Mistake in coaching was that call which IMV Totally cost us a tilt at the G.F, but that was last year. Let's see if anything changes this year which it should. I'll still maintain that T MAC is cooked. They are now trying him up back, which is about as useful as playing Ravishing Rick Flair's double for all I care, but IMV he is cooked.

reckon our goal kicking was a much bigger factor in costing us a tilt at the flag.

May was drafted as a forward, iirc

Been wondering whether (read 'scared'...) to bring May into discussions about our forwards failings (though these seem a thing of the past going by the reports and responses herein!😊)

But now that ice is broken, I add he was (I think) All-Australian Under-18 CHF.

Surely Hore is a replacement for Hibbo?

Putting May into the forward line would be absolutely robbing Peter to pay Paul. He is the best full back in the league.

May is our defence, he’s not playing forward. If he does go forward it’s because we’re already cooked.

Any of

1 No sub use ( T Mac of early 3rd q would have been my call

2 Shocking goal kicking

3 Max touching Clarriers certain goal but Imv the lack of sub use REALLY cost us

Totally? So it’s this reason alone?

Big reason when the game was on the line.

4 hours ago, Tolstoys Nudge said:

That’s cus there IS 5 behind  reasons, there’s 10-12 & the sub issue could be 10 or 11, but it’s certainly not one that’s worth mentioning anywhere near the volume or air time it gets on here, that’s for certain!

And to have ANYONE other than Goody Himself presume he didn’t use sub cus he was ‘annoyed’ or ‘protesting’ due to being outvoted on match-committee is just absolute salacious nonsense! As I said in my post, it was an error, it was poor judgement but it wasn’t a key reason for the Melbourne FC [censored] the bed, sorry.

To say it’s the 11th or 12 th reason and to say didn’t matter  as much as any other is completely underestimating that decision. You May say that but you a have either  got half a dozen other minute reasons any which could be from 6 th onwards.

The non use of a Sub is a crucial and dumb decision in most games ie soccer nrl and obviously AFL.

Then you double up and say because the Senior Coach made the decision it’s almost irrelevant. He was the crucial decision maker and failed miserably in leadership and daring/positive action. Refer back to the 2023 last quarter and Harry Petty was switched forward with about 10 mins to go. If that move had been Made at 3/4 time by Simon I have a feeling we wouldn’t have lost that game. Similar situations and in sport some have the knack and others can’t find the fortitude to press buttons at the right time.
Schache was let down by the Coach and if as is alleged ( you are ignoring the reason conveniently). This has been a common thread regarding this game and yes it sounds very hard to believe but I feel there is a very strong element of truth regrettably about this “ non decision” to use the Sub.

I can think of about 5 other reasons we lost that game but to say this Sub decision was not a crucial one is ignoring the games natural flow and sports amazing ability to thrill us any time we close our eyes or use our given faculties.

I have heard of him. And hulk Hogan and Andre the giant- but from movie fame.

We’re already sending Harry P forward. He will with the new recruits plus the trade of McAdam and Billing’s seems to me to offer much more class and options plus our forwards being fit would also be a great filip. Have no doubts our forward line will be a major reason we improve our team.

This is one of those things that can't be proven either way.

'Nudge' doesn't believe it cost us and makes good points to back up his reasons.

Why do you think it cost us?

On previous form I'm not sure that Schache was the difference.

Are you sure that any of TN’s decisions aren’t a matter of opinion as well?  I am not going to go through his ( 11 or 12) doesn’t list these either !!

He's articulated himself...and of course they are his opinions.

I'm not asking you to go through his reasons for those opinions, he's done that well enough for himself.

I was interested in why you think leaving Schache on the bench cost us a win.

I didn’t realise Schache was such an important player for us.

… yet he gets bagged by so many on here. It’s a curious contradiction.

But yeah, he must be very important since he’s getting mentioned every [censored] five minutes, and not in relation to how fit he is or how hard he’s training nor anything else other than he was an used sub. People need to get tf over it, let it go and move on ffs.

Are you not able to read my  opinion ?

I have twice stated that change of The Sub on could change the dynamics.? That’s what happens when changes are made in sport. You can’t say that Josh Schache may not have taken 2/3 marks and kicked goals to win it for us.

As  to  justifying his opinion he has not really given any in-depth analysis of his 11/12 reasons. Stating is not in depth at times and you seem satisfied but he hasn’t started 11/12 points anyway.

i am stating along with poor forward kicking and connection, goal inaccuracy plus Gawny touching Clarry’s goal shot and also goal umpire decisions plus the Sub not being used are reasons why we did not win.

And Goody had much to do with the decision about the Sub plus his alleged failure to activate the change of Tmac off and Schache on.

Happy now I have   for the third time repeated myself. TN does not elaborate like you say. You are just easily accepting his post and have not even given any of your views. No doubt you will just say the same few options that TN has listed.

Nothing will make me change my mind only reinforce my opinion.

Cheers and Go Dees.

This you don't know at all...and it's one thing I don't like on this forum.

People saying Goody is this, Goody is that...he's stuck in his ways. When we win it's because of the assistants, when we lose it's Goody's fault. It's all BS, we don't know the mind of the coach, we don't know what goes on at selection and we don't know the machinations on match day.

We're all guessing and opining.

Now for my opinion.

I have said this before also.

I would have made the change, I don't think Tommy was giving us much at all.

Would it have changed the result?

We will never know, but probably not.

Schache had shown us nothing in previous games to make us believe he would have taken marks and kicked goals.

Particularly in a big final. I think he was only there as coverage for Max if he went down.

...and we were well in the game, why take the chance with Schache. It could have backfired.

The other thing we don't know is whether Tom was fulfilling a particular role they didn't believe Josh could do.

...but from the outside looking in, I would have made the change.

Sadly May also has a terrible shank when kicking for goal and almost always misses to the left.

Unless that was somehow corrected over this pre-season then me thinks this flaw alone would be enough to scare off the coaches / FD from ever giving this any serious consideration.

Not to mention the 'robbing Peter' part you mentioned.

When fully fit and firing he is def the best 1 v 1 defender going around imv.  As they say, "when you're on a good thing..."

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
