Voss preparing for coaching & Lot to learn, Vossy

Voss as coach...no way. He has no experience in coaching and instead needs some time as assistant. Bring him in as assistant coach or manageing our midfield for a year or 2. Then we will see. I would prefer danners to voss as coach

I agree, but then the alternatives to Voss aren't many... When everything settles and MFC has looked at all options there may not BE a better option than Voss...

yeah tru and voss may not want to be assistant. he may just think that he deserves to be head coach when he moves in. I would personally be looking at either Sheedy or someone who is not all that well known. Like what clarkson was. I think voss will struggle to get a head possition anywhere next year. Great employees dont always make great managers and we dont know how good voss would be. I really think that melbourne should be looking for a premiership in the next 2 years. I think we have the team to make us top 4 but probebly not 1 or 2. We really do need a new coach tho and i think there are certain players that would flurrish under one. I think there needs to be a change of coach however as i think players are not giving it their all under ND. Dont get me wrong, danners has been great for melbourne but i think the deal he made 3-4 years ago to keep coaching was a mistake. Easier to say that now tho i guess.

The last thing the MFC can afford to do is appoint someone with no experience. Neale Daniher has helped take this side to the finals in five of the past seven seasons, after all of that are we going to just throw away his expertise and experience for someone untried and unproven?

Remember, Tim Watson was once a very good player and look how well he turned out as coach with no experience.

Sign him up to coach now, I say. He would bring the Brisbane and Matthews mentality and I couldn't thing of a better example of a tough and fair player and leader that some of the young players (McLean, Bate, Dunn, Petterd and Jones) could look up to.

can we afford to go with someone with no experience....

aren't we currently in our window - our list has been built up to the stage where we are a top 4 team and a challenger....

i am very undecided re the coaching position because of the above...

the issue that i do have is our skill level?? we still turn the ball over too many times and they cost us goals....

BIG RED SIGNING:

I am amazed that people see a guy who has captained a 3 time premiership side (which includes being on match committee) and spent extended injury periods sitting in the coaches box with Leigh Matthews as less experience than someone who has an official title as an "assistant coach" and is responsible potentially for nothing more than laying out witches hats and moving names on a magnetic board (note partial tongue in cheek). Saying there is a gulf between Voss and Longmire for example in experience is relatively small if existent at all.

He certainly wouldn't be the craziest choice for coach in the world.......

And he may just have the combination of youth, enthusiasm and, at least some experience, that we need.

No-one wants another Watson-esque situation, but honestly Voss does have plenty working in his favour :) .

sign him up i say, wlak up to him today and ask him to make a presentation then sign him up as soon as he can be

I have heard him a number of times on Sports today and he knows his stuff. He has recent GF experience, Leader of men, spent time under mathews in the box, wants to be an advocate for the young kids. I would take him on no worries. Perhaps there may be others but he is the one WE need.

I'm pretty sure the club will go after him for an assistant coaching position.

I wouldn't be opposed to having him as an assistant coach under Daniher for a couple of years, then give him the senior coaching title.

I'd rather a completely new coaching panel, but if the club and Daniher decide to stay, I hope that new assistants are introduced.

Not a stupid idea Jaded.

Would a caretaker/mentor role for Daniher work, with a clear understanding that Daniher gets a 1 year only extension, with Voss to take over in 2009?

It would be a probelm for ND that other roles may dry up after 2007 though.

Daniher wouldn't take an offer like that in a month of Sundays and rightly so.

Agreed, which is why, if they decide the keep him and he decided to stay, it will have to be as our senior coach and he will need to have the same power that he does now. Anything else would be an insult.

I wouldn't mind if Voss was his assistant, giving us the option of him one day becoming our senior coach, that is all.

Now with Eddie resigning from CEO, one G Lyon will lose some of his coverage, lets have two head coaches Lyon and Voss and get a past coach to be part time mentoring type role. Super star legend Ronald Dale comes to mind.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
