If Josh thinks we’re finishing 11th then lock us in for the flag - one of the worst footy ‘analysts’ going around at the moment

I don't 100% disagree with him.

He raises the point (and as a recent 10 year player his opinion should carry some weight) that all these accumulated distractions and emergency meetings within the club could suck the energy out of the playing group.

Compare that to the pre seasons of challengers like Carlton or GWS where all you hear is hype, positivity and how much of a further leap they can take this year.

We'll soon know if JJ has a point. We have a fairly brutal first 8 weeks with Sydney away, the AO double, Brisbane, Carlton and possibly Geelong who we usually have problems with.

Yes for sure. Jenkins is just another 'clickbait merchant' from SEN.

Move on for gawds sake.

Look I understand his broader point about the potential impacts that the off field issues could have on the energy and mentality of the group

But I also think the media and some supporters have greatly exaggerated how much the behaviour of two players - out of 40 odd - has or will impact the rest of the group

Personally I back Max, Viney, Trac, Lever, Gus, ANB and Salem to continue to be the exemplary leaders they have been, as well as our club for continuing to create an environment where a vast majority of our players want to be a part of (see all of our recent resignings and ability to bring in talent from other clubs)

And to put us finishing 11th with no regard to the talent on our list that hasn’t seen us finish that low - outside of one horror injury riddled season - since 2016, and I’m not going to take him very seriously…

The concept of a ‘premiership window’ is dated…

Collingwood finished 17th in 2021 and won a premiership 2 years later. Geelong won a premiership in 2009 and have been thereabouts ever since.

let’s just hope we can bash through the utterly shocking hand we’ve been dealt (and contributed to ourselves) in the past 18 months and do something special.

Many Players have progressed to a point , but they don’t have the same drive (attitude) as has been there before. Too many Slow Starts

Goodwin is a very stubborn man, particularly on Matchday, and that was a big factor in Adem leaving

Take it or Leave, you have no idea Who or What i know about the MFC.

2 Cups have been thrown away, you may accept that, that is entirely up to you, but i certainly don’t have to Parrot Fashion your views.

Oliver is irrelevant....he's made it that way... we've coped.

He's not an issue.

Either folk understand that or don't.

Strangely Footy is a team game.

Its now all about how the controllers use the pawns.

You must be joking??! CLAYTON OLIVER is a superstar! Like Dusty is to Richtank, Bont is to dishlickers, Cripps is to Carltank.....

He is our most influential player since Robby and RDB. Controllers use pawns? Yeah right but Oliver is the King! He also has not made it that way, and unless you know for a fact what issues he is dealing with, your comments are conjecture! Yeah I get the fact he wont play for a while BUT HE AINT IRRELEVANT....NEVER!

Is it just me or do most of the player reviews seem to reveal that most players were a little down on form? Yet we came so close.

I still think we are a lock for top four this year.

Time for a new glazier you say, I know a good one.

Youre comprehensive powers are failing you.

Hes irrelevant because hes not an if or a maybe. Very likely to not play this year the way it's pointing...  He didn't play a lot or to his previous eliteness  last year either.. Grass still grew ...and we move on.

What IS relevant is what you CAN do....not what you can't.

Are you seriously saying that when Yze devised strategies of the "Viney goes to block Bont while Trac moves to the right...etc etc" (whichI assume is what the midfield coach does),  Goodwin would override him? Are you seriously saying that? If that were the case, no assistant in the league would work with him; no player would want to play under him - and yet the players have consistently signed long term contracts, people like McQualter come to work with him - and also, Richardson would let that happen?

Please,  tell me you were joking.

Yes he is saying that even though it was well known Goody engages with the players from the bench whilst Yze took the reigns and called the shots from the coaches box on match day

Agree I have loved him from day 1 and believe he’s seriously underrated by non Demons. However I have no doubt with the knowledge the club has regarding Clarrys personal matters, planning will be very much based on scenarios where he isn’t in the line up. We’re better with him but 1 player doesn’t make a team especially when you have virtually an entire preseason to plan with him not being there.

If Clarry plays it’s a bonus and I’m very much a person who doesn’t worry about who I haven’t got and worries about who I have got.

Players and coaching staff I would think will have the same mindset

I don’t think we’re a lock, we need a lot of improvement in

speed of ball movement

forward entries and separation

clearance and cbd spread

staying healthy is also vital

We do but I'm sticking to my guns and I'm backed up by some big international betting companies.

We will be top four come finals time.

In my view,  biased by red and blue   But

looking through the bottom of an amber glass or detritus of my red wine.

i think the window is opening. So there !!

I'll tell you 10 minutes into round 0.

If we are as angry and hungry as we should be, lookout.

If we arent,  well...

It’s going to be harder than last year. Collingwood, Brisbane, GWS, Port, Adelaide, Carlton, Sydney, Geelong all have the ability to win the flag. Then you’ve got St.Kilda, GC, Richmond, Fremantle, Hawthorn and Essendon all capable of beating anyone on their day. It’s going to be a gruelling year of football and if we’re not up for it mentally we’re cooked.

Not really much different from last year, it's very even, every side will struggle if they're not switched on.

Disagree, I think Geelong, Adelaide, GC and Fremantle will be a significantly greater threat to the top sides and Essendon and Hawthorn could easily win as many as they lose. I think the comp is in for a super even few years.

To state the bleedin' obvious every team , every game will need to be switched on. Blink or stall at start and it's catch up footy.

We've been notoriously bad starting many games...    I don't see this panning out well unless we address the simple faults.

I think your overview is pretty spot on.

Go Dees

( from the bounce....or go home)

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
